Pretty good introduction chapters. The groundwork was laid out nicely, right? The police are investigating a case of a man being pronounced dead, but then finding out he is not dead at the start of his autopsy. Things like this happen, but this is two cases in a month. That introduces us to the two main characters at this point, the two investigators.

Elise Sandburg - Dealing with a teenage daughter and a new, disconnected partner. Was taught spells and voodoo at a young age, but abandoned in an ancient cemetery.

David Gould - The disconnected partner transplanted to this area for unspecified reasons. Anti-depressants keep him from caring about "clicking" with anyone personally or professionally. Runs. A lot.

Sucks to be Truman Harrison. I dunno if he was aware of everything that was happening, but I am sure he is. From the sigh, to the raised heartbeat in the hospital room, this guy is in a form of hell I wouldn't want to experience.

It reminds me of when I was put under to have wisdom teeth removed. I was aware of what he was doing, but unable to let him know. I was hearing, feeling everything. When I heard the crack and felt a pain like the side of my face was on fire, I finally mustered enough energy to make a noise of some type. After that, I felt a wave of medication hit and I woke up after the procedure.

Five chapters in and I am enjoying it. Thanks, brokenandtwisted, for the heads up.

Very interesing. Truman's current situation kind of reminds me of the film Johnny Got His Gun.

Elise seems like the normal workaholic with a twist. Pretty normal now but she has a mysterious past. It will be interesting to see where her relationship with both her daughter and her partner go.

David Gould is a very interesting character. I can't wait to delve deeper into his past. I'm kind of thinking he had a child that is now dead. I'm not sure.

It's quite the page turner so far.

I'm engrossed with another novel at the moment but I'll start reading Play Dead again tomorrow.

:O I was thinking when I put it up. :( It's just such a cool book...don't worry, it doesn't really ruin anything.
