Indie horror film out of Atlanta about the plight of a group of people living in the in the city of Terminus. On New Years Eve, a signal begins mysteriously transmitting through televisions, phones and radio. This signal preys on a person's fears and anyone who watches or listens to it is turned into a cold-blooded killer. The film follows Mya (Anessa Ramsey), who is having an affair with Ben (Justin Welborn). After one of her trysts with Ben, a night she was supposed to be drinking with the girls, Mya returns home to her extremely suspicious husband, Lewis (AJ Bowen). Before she has time to worry about her husband realizing something is going on, all hell begins to break loose. The rest of The Signal is three separate chapters filmed by three separate directors, detailing Ben trying to find Mya in the aftermath, while dealing the cities remaining afflicted. One of those including his girlfriends husband, Lewis. Let's take a look at the trailer with my expert thoughts on the movie after the jump.

Wow, that looks pretty good. It takes me back to one of my old faves, "Videodrome".
Gotta love James Wood and Debbie Harry, a freaky and sexy movie.

The Signal proves once again budget restraints prove no barrier to ingenuity: this scruffy, rough-around-the-edges horror film has a strong central idea and a habit of jolting you with real shocks. Something in TV and radio transmissions is getting into the brains of ordinary people and turning them into homicidal maniacs--something other than the usual homicide-inducing stuff, that is. (Incidentally, this movie was shot before the arrival of Stephen King's novel Cell, which has a similar idea.) We learn the concept in a nerve-slicing opening act, as a young woman (Anessa Ramsey) leaves her extramarital fling (Justin Welborn) to tell her husband she's splitting. Unfortunately, this is the moment a mysterious signal has infiltrated TV transmissions and cell phones, turning most of humanity, or at least the people living in the city of Terminus, into murderous savages. Serves them right for living in a city called Terminus. Why some people get "the Crazy" and some people don't is one of the problems with the film--horror movies generally rely in certain rules to carry them through--although the biggest issue viewers might have is the hodgepodgey style. Three Atlanta-based directors, David Bruckner, Jacob Gentry, and Dan Bush, helmed the three distinct sections of the movie; thus the exciting opening is followed by a jarringly comic second act, and wrapped by a somewhat bleak finale. There's enough invention here to justify the film for genre buffs, despite the nagging feeling that it doesn't quite hold together. --Robert Horton

I finally got around to watching this last night. I had attempted to previously but was under the impression that the opening of the film was the actual film. It was way too over the top and I turned it off....glad that I gave it another try.

Absolutely fucking amazing film. Superb, excellent, fantastic....don't know what else to say. THe second story was by far my favorite. Pure insanity there. Talking decapitated heads, some gory kills and some true black humor.

10/10

Wow! This was great! I will buy this on DVD! I loved the actors in this!
I loved the comedy and I loved the graphic violence! and all for $50k
Lewis and Clark were just funny as was Jim Parsons and Mya and Ben were cool!!

This is suspense and horror at its finest....

I read that some of the viewers find the second transmission to be funny. Not for me, it was madness all over. This movie absorbed me more then any of the latest "zombie" installations. Especially interesting is the fact that everyone gets affected by the signal. Each in his own way (and that's probably what some consider funny). It is not the typical survivors versus evil thing. Everyone fights against his own paranoia here, snapping in and out of reality.

Plenty of gore but they do not go over the top with it. Pacing is good, camera is good (no shaky stuff here) and i liked the minimalistic distortion effects.

It might be a bit confusing for some to watch, because the storytelling is not straight forward. Lots of jumps between timelines and hallucinations from the protagonists, i loved it.

It's like a LSD trip gone wrong...

All three directors are on my watchlist now, thanks for this nice piece of work. Any horror buff should try it, this is some solid stuff.

Gimme more !!!

The second transmission was the best.

Nah, I liked how it started, but it grew more and more tedious for me after that.

I really enjoyed this movie a lot when I say it this past summer. I want to own it but I can't see myself spending $20 some on it. I'll wait until I can get a copy used or they come to a more reasonable price.
