Police arrested a 20-year-old man in Hazleton for dangling an infant out of a second-floor window on Monday, then also charged him with sex crimes upon learning he was having sexual relations with a teenage girl in the Poplar Street home for weeks.
Michael A. Waldron - who moved in with the 15-year-old girl, her 5-month-old son and the girl's mother last week - is charged with endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person, aggravated indecent assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and statutory sexual assault.
According to arrest papers:
A neighbor called police to the South Poplar Street home around 5:35 p.m. when she saw the baby being held out of a second-story window. When he saw the neighbor watching, Waldron pulled the baby inside and stuck his middle finger out at her.
While investigating, police spoke to Waldron's girlfriend. She said he was making fun of the neighbor when he asked to hold her baby. He then held the baby under the infant's arms and placed him out the window. After pulling the baby back inside, he said he was going to talk to the neighbor who witnessed the incident, but never came back.
Police said the girl soon told them about the sexual relationship she and Waldron were having, and she said he was fully aware she was 15 because he was planning her 16th birthday party.
Officers arrested Waldron when he returned to the home around 1 a.m. on Tuesday. He admitted he made "a mistake" regarding the incident with the baby and knew his sexual relationship with his girlfriend was illegal.
The baby was placed in the custody of Luzerne County Children and Youth, police said.
Waldron is jailed in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail.
