Well, that seems to be the rumor going around. Cinema Blend (http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Scoop-Captain-America-May-Be-Matthew-McConaughey-8737.html) is reporting that they were told that McConaughey was the leading candidate to play the role of Mr. Red White and Blue. Admittedly, I am not a big comic book hero fan. Aside from knowing who they are and a little about their immediate backgrounds, I am somewhat clueless about a lot of these heroes origins and relationships with one another. Captain America, to me, was just a guy who fought Nazis and had a really cool arch-enemy, Red Skull.

I fucking hate Matthew. He is too aware of the camera.
I'd rather they get someone I've never heard of. Just as bland a dude as possible.
And I hope they portray the angst Cap from the 70's. All the other Cap's are too one-dimensional. I want the Steranko Cap.

I had the same thought. Grabbing the dude who is popular at the moment, instead of who is right.
Ironman nailed it. As did the last Superman movie. I also thought Michael Keaton was a great choice for Batman, and the current James Bond is the best to date. In all cases, they went for the right fit instead of trying to fit the "right" actor.

Indeed. I fear that this movie will suffer from some severe awkwardness.
Although - and I may get some tomatoes thrown at me - While I do think that Keaton made the best Batman, I really thought Bale was pretty good, too.
P.S. "Squinty eyes" is an odd and specific thing to be in to. I can just see the looks at the local sports bar..."Ass? Tits? What, dude?" "Actually, I'm a squinty eyes man, myself..."

I enjoyed Bale as Batman. I think I've enjoyed everything Bale has ever done (The Prestige being his best performance for me, right above the Machinist). But Keaton had that confused angst that Bale never quite got. Bale had more of the physicality, but almost too much. I preferred the "normal" Batman. The Caped Detective. In the comic, "Year One", I was a bit miffed when I saw Batman kick right through a tree that must have been 6 feet in circumference.

Goddamnit, maybe it was...in any case, I took her comment to mean she thought she would get tomatoes thrown at her for saying Christian Bale was good, which is an overall acceptance. Her thinking Keaton was better is shared by many as well, too bad the movie sucked bloody assholes.
I am more curious as to how they will revamp Captain America more than I am about who is playing him. If I saw him standing beside the recent Iron Man, or Batman or even the Hulk or any of the X-Men, he would look really, really silly in that flag-suit. But that's the first thing you think of when you hear his name...so I wonder what, if anything, they plan on doing.

They did a really good job of making him still look like The Goblin, without totally changing the character. Plus... look at this photo/concept of Captain America:

And also this one... because its fucking badass:

If they can pull off Spiderman, Superman, The Fantastic Four, Hellboy, and The X-Men. They can pull off Captain America's Suit. Need we forget that Wolverine went from this:

I dont think Captain America's suit is that non translatable to film, Both Superman and Spiderman are sillier looking and they have managed to keep em almost identical to the CBs just using fabrics and textures instead of shity spandex to make em look very acceptable, and they werent even meant to be Red White and Blue posterboys for the army.
Personally I think they droped the ball with the green goblin look, the same kind of army body suit but with a simple halloween retail type of mask with the sole intention of concealing the face would both look more like the cb and would make more sence story telling wise. Why the fuck did he make the prototipe helmet look like that in the first place?
A really good casting sugestion I forgot is Brad Beyer from Jerico.

Good idea.. that's exactly what they should have done. The real helmet should have been destroyed in a very early street fight, and the Goblin has been tossed through the front of a store. He is worried about his face being seen, and notices he is laying on a pile of masks that have spilled everywhere from the costume shop he is in. He is rummaging through them... looking for something green... when he comes across the Goblin mask. "Peeerrrfect", he hisses. You see him yank it on from the back, and then the big expose shot as he steps out of the broken glass, already slipping into character, the transformation complete!
Great idea, dop. I never understood the Goblin helmet, and yours is a brilliant solution.
Edit: Also, why do the put fake abdominal muscles on armor? Or Batman's suit, for that matter? The penis on Robin's suit I fully understand... but scroll up and look at the Goblins abs. Strange.

Thanks Swiv, I love the context you put it in, that would be such a fucking cool reveal and would make more sence as he gradualy turns more insane. I had merly tougth he would steal it from an employe's cubicle, Harry's room(giving him suspicions he doesnt want to accept) or something to that efect but your idea is much better, pure fucking story telling...
At the same time we have to go with him making that type of helmet for the prototype despite it going against the character but fuckit him going with dual tone colors is unacceptable, lets just make a huge green pice of shit that achives to look both ridiculous and nothing like the source material... Meanwile Ironman fixes that type of unrealistic design with a it being made out of gold and a "put some hot rod red into it" five seconds line that seems pure coming from that character(I love you Iron man, Call me!)...
As far as the abs go I get your point but they dont really bother me as much, doesnt really look military at all but looks say like paintball type of body suits, those fuckers love to put abs on their chest plates.
As for Batman even Shumaker's Batnipples made perfect sence to me, the guy is into teatricallity to scare the "superstitious and cowardly lot" so it makes sence for him to throw some design there, one thing I liked from Burton's Batman is he colected armors of the theatrical type like the samurai ones, explained a lot in a very simple scene of Vale and that other dude walking througth Wayne Manor.
Going back to Captain America, As much as I hate the Ultimates their suits designs for Caps are really cool.

Damn... that is awesome. Thanks for the update KillBill.
This Avengers shit is really going to happen, isn't it? What a treat to become an adult and have my comic childhood rewarded in this way. I feel like we live in a historic era.
Here's what I wonder... when the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent first made contact with Potts and Stark, was it because of Captain America? I think there was something going on in the background that we aren't privy to yet. The only weird thing is the timeline. The Avengers were already assembled when Cap was found in the ice. The only thing I can think would be one of the following:
1. The SuperSoldier project never shut down, and constant improvement on future SuperSoldier gear was an on-going contract with Stark Inc.
2. The shield was for a different purpose, and just gets adopted by Cap.
3. They are going to be re-writing the story behind Cap's revival.
I actually think the last (and most upsetting to purists) will be the case. And I actually hope it is. I wouldn't mind Cap being an original member of the Avengers, instead of having him brought on halfway through the film. I wouldn't even have Hank Pym as Ant-Man, and I wouldn't have Wasp at all. (Hank Pym would be the background tinkerer, who would come in during the second film as one of his many characters).
The Avengers were always fluid and changing, so I hope Marvel does what is best for the film and doesn't worry about being true to the history of the comics.

That would be cool, and they could easily work that in if SHIELD knew about Cap before they assembled the Avengers to go get him. It would explain the shield nicely.
Of course, the shield doesn't ever HAVE to be explained. It could just be an Easter Egg that the hyper-critical whine about because it doesn't fit the continuum down the road.
dop

One of the most simple explanations is Tony is a rich collector, he could very well own WWII legend Captain America's shield, could have been studing its rich and rare metal's properties... Could just be a replica, in that universe tons of people would own repicas of the shield.

It's very smart marketing to tie these films together. They should of been going in that direction right from the get go, with the Spiderman flicks.
dop
May 12th, 2008, 12:45 PM
Yea, that would have made more sence from the get go, but aparently there were legal things that stoped the other studios from pulling that off witougth tons of trouble.
I hope when the rigths revert back to Marvel they wont bother tring to please "Where were they" bitchers and just add Spiderman, Fantastic Four, Mutants and the like witougth making a big fuzz about it and rebooting the series for it to make sence for continuity error spotters.
I mean, a lot of the previous films had shity things that could had been done diferently and much beter but Id rather not take a bunch of new films to end nearly on the same place.

Week old news. Been debunked, probably. But it's really blah. :bolt:
EXCLUSIVE: Is Will Smith The New Captain America?
Published by Rick Marshall on Monday, September 8, 2008 at 12:14 pm.
When Marvel announced that “Captain America” was making its way to the big-screen, fans everywhere began speculating who would be donning the famous red-white-and-blue tights. Nothing has been heard since, but during an MTV News interview regarding his role in “Miracle at St. Anna,” actor Derek Luke let slip that a very prominent - and surprising - face could be the star of Marvel Studios’ next blockbuster film.
“I heard they offered Will Smith ‘Captain America,’” said Luke, adding that the intriguing casting rumor “just shows you how times have changed.”
While this word through the Hollywood grapevine is nothing more than a rumor at this point, it should be noted that Marvel hasn’t shied away from changing up the race - and gender - of established characters in recent years. Upon kicking off his celebrated take on “The Ultimates” (Marvel’s re-imagining of their classic superteam The Avengers), Mark Millar changed S.H.I.E.L.D. head honcho Nick Fury from a crew-cut, cigar-chomping, middle-aged white man to, well… Sam Jackson.
The decision, though aggressively debated back when the series debuted, seemed to receive some validation earlier this year when Jackson made his post-credits cameo in “Iron Man” as Fury.
Smith himself is no stranger to the four-color world, having recently starred as a down-on-his-luck superhero in “Hancock.” Given the success of that film however, it seems almost a given that a sequel could be in the offing. That makes the prospect of Smith starring in yet another superhero franchise seem unlikely, especially given the subversive tone of “Hancock.”
Along with providing some fresh material for the “Captain America” rumor mill, Luke also mentioned an interest in jumping into the superhero movie scene himself, and offered up a few characters he’d like to bring to the big screen.
“I would love to jump into Green Lantern,” said Luke. “There are a lot of stories I’m into… [like] Black Panther.”

Even though that's bullshit, It's not too far fetched. The original Cap was black. Check out Red, White, and Black. As a matter of fact, the first Captain America is the grandfather of the Young Avengers' very own Patriot.

I know, and he knows my fiance is black, so I twisted it to make fun of his profession. Get it? :five:

here's a sneak peak at the dialog...
Hey HEY Hey Red Skull...wanna smoke a doobie on my catamaran? :canabis:
maybe they can cast Andy Dick as Red Skull to complete the awesomeness.
Seriously i don't think this will happen. They throw around lots of names....Nick Cage was supposed to play Superman and Willy Wonka for quite a while.
