BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A Maricopa police officer who was being investigated following allegations of sexual misconduct with three minors has been arrested.

Lemoore police said they arrested Maricopa Officer Garry Ferguson, 29, late Friday night at a relative's home in Rosedale on an arrest warrant from the King's County district attorney. Ferguson was in a King's County court Monday morning and pleaded not guilty to a total of 12 counts in three separate cases.

Charges include forcible rape, unlawful intercourse with a minor and oral copulation.

The King's County district attorney said two of the girls are 14 to 16 years old.

They said Ferguson met one of the girls while taking a karate class in King's County and started a relationship with her.

The most serious charges against Ferguson are from a relationship they say he had with a 13-year-old girl.

The King’s County District Attorney’s Office said Ferguson knew the minor for a while and eventually developed a relationship with her that lasted for a few years.

Ferguson's bail is set at $300,000.

According to Maricopa police, Kern County has an ongoing investigation on Ferguson. The Kern County district attorney has not confirmed the investigation.

Maricopa police said the chief of police and city manager will be discussing whether Ferguson will be terminated. They said an action will be taken sometime this week.

Garry Snap Ferguson, 30, was arrested on Kings County charges at his Bakersfield home Saturday morning. He was held Monday morning in lieu of $300,000 bail.
He was booked on charges of lewd conduct with a child, forcible rape, statutory rape, and other sex charges.Ferguson was the ''officer in charge'' of the six-officer force in Maricopa, in western Kern County, about 30 miles southwest of downtown Bakersfield. He was placed on paid leave April 20 after a judge issued a domestic violence restraining order in Taft. That order required he surrender his firearm, which left him unable to perform his duties as a police officer, acting Maricopa Chief of Police Louie Pennie told KGET's Alex Valle Monday morning. That led to an investigation into allegations of misconduct in Kern County. That case is unrelated to the charges in Lemoore, in Kings County, that led to Ferguson's arrest Saturday. Lemoore is about 90 miles northwest of Bakersfield. Details on that case, other than the charges and booking information, were not immediately available.Ferguson joined the Maricopa department in 2006, immediately after graduating from a Fresno police academy. 17's Alex Valle, who broke the Ferguson story a week ago, will have a full report on the case on 17News@Noon, 5 and 6.

A Maricopa Police officer, already under investigation for alleged sexual misconduct with a Maricopa teenager, has been arrested by Lemoore Police and charged with rape and child molestation in that Kings County community.
In addition to the forcible rape charge, Ferguson is charged with committing lewd acts on a child with force, committing a lewd act on a child under 16, unlawful intercourse, and oral copulation with a person under 16.



Lemoore Police Commander Jeff Laws said the acts took place “three to four years ago” and involved “more than one victim.”

He declined to say how many victims there were or their ages at the time the acts occurred.

Ferguson, a Maricopa PD officer since September 1, 2006, has been on paid administrative leave since city officials learned in late April that he was under investigation by the Kern County District Attorney for sexual contact with a teenage girl.



According to media reports, there there is also a domestic violence restraining order against Ferguson taken out in Taft branch of Kern County Superior Court.

Laws said information about another possible incident in Lemoore came to light three to four weeks ago and his department began its investigation.

New information reveals Maricopa cop allegedly had sex with 13-year-old
Three women recently came forward with allegations they were molested by Maricopa Police Officer Garry Ferguson. 29 Eyewitness News obtained court documents that show the women were minors when the alleged incidents happened in Kings County.

One of the minors was just 13-years-old girl when Ferguson touched her in a sexual manner in 1998, say court documents.

Between December of 2005 and December of 2006 court documents say Ferguson had sexual intercourse and oral copulation with a 15-year-old girl.

And between October 2003 and October 2005, court documents charge Ferguson had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl in her bedroom. Another time Ferguson allegedly had sex with the girl at the Kings River.

The investigation began on April 25 when two parties contacted Lemoore City Police in Kings County. The investigation led to two more women coming forward.

Asked if there may be more women coming forward, Kings County Prosecutor Kathy Ciuffini said, "I would not be surprised". Ferguson was arrested May 2 by City of Lemoore Police Officers at a residence in Bakersfield.

And Ferguson may possibly be facing other charges. The Kern County District Attorney's Office has its own separate investigation underway, but is not commenting on it right now.

The 30-year-old Ferguson remains in jail in Kings County on $500,000 bail

Having said that, when a bad apple is found in the bunch I have a special kind of hate and disgust for them and I take great pleasure when one is exposed and given his due's.:diablo:

I am very curious about the hiring standards that US departments use though. Here there is a psych evaluation and testing and a very thorough background check done before a cop is hired. Yes bad ones slip through there is no doubt about that but I do have to say that happens at a higher rate in the US than it does here.

I truly believe more attention should be paid to the hiring aspect and backgrounds of potential candidates. They are given a great deal of power with that badge and I think the public deserves the better than cops like this guy!

Four days before Maricopa police officer Garry Snap Ferguson was suspended, his wife threatened to turn him in for sexual acts he committed with children, court documents say.Michelle Ferguson, 27, said her husband pretended to threaten her with a gun as she was getting ready to leave their home with their three children, the documents say.

Ferguson, 30, was suspended in April and then arrested on May 3 on 12 counts of sexual abuse with three minors in Kings County. He had been an officer in Maricopa since 2006.

He has pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges which allege that between Aug. 1, 1998, and Dec. 31, 2006, he committed sex acts with children. Some of the charges are for acts with children under 16 and some are for acts with children under 14.

The charges include forcible molestation, sexual intercourse, oral copulation, sexual penetration and forcible rape.

Ferguson is being held in the Kings County Jail on $500,000 bail. A hearing is set May 30 on a defense motion to reduce the bail.

In Kern County, two restraining orders have been issued to keep Ferguson from contacting his estranged wife and children in one case and an 18-year-old woman in the second case.

The 18-year-old declared in a May 2 filing that Ferguson “played mental mind games to scare me so I would not confess to sexual intercourse and abuse (by Ferguson) while I was a minor.”

She also declared she was dating or used to date Ferguson.

The time period for the dating relationship was not disclosed, but the court documents indicate she only recently turned 18.

She was in court Thursday when Commissioner James Compton extended her restraining order against Ferguson to June 25 when another hearing is scheduled.

She did not testify. Ferguson was represented by attorney William Frank who did not return a call from The Californian Friday for comment.

Meanwhile, Ferguson has filed for divorce on May 1, citing irreconcilable differences with his wife.

The couple were married April 20, 2002 and they lived in Lemoore until October 2006.

Mrs. Ferguson on May 2 filed for a restraining order against her husband, to prevent him from contacting her, their three children.

In that case, she alleged that Ferguson threatened to take the children. She replied that if he tried, she would turn him in.

She reported that he said he would hurt her and pretended he had a gun, she said.

Ferguson denied her version of events.

Even so, a judge granted an emergency order earlier this month and extended it this week.

Mrs. Ferguson also obtained a temporary order preventing Ferguson from visiting the children. She argued that the children were at risk for abduction because he had no job and a criminal record.

That record according to Kings County Superior Court documents shows Ferguson was charged with drug possession in 1999 and petty theft on 2001.

The documents say he was diverted from the court process in 1999 for a treatment program, thereby avoiding a conviction.

He was convicted of petty theft as a misdemeanor in 2001, but under California law that can be dismissed a year later.
