West Columbia (WLTX) -- West Columbia police say they have arrested a man they caught as he was sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in a hotel room.
Officers arrested 48-year-old James Priester, Jr. of Stahl Street in Cayce at about 11:45 p.m. Friday night at the American Inn located at 1617 Charleston Highway.
Priester is a registered sex offender.
He was charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 16, possession of cocaine, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
According to West Columbia Police Chief Dennis Tyndall, the victim's mother told officers that her daughter was in a hotel room with Priester.
Officers say they found Priester in the room as he was sexaully assaulting the young girl.
They say they also discovered a plastic bag of powder cocaine and alcohol in the room.
Priester offered both substances to the girl, officers say.
Tyndall says Priester checked into the motel the day before. Investigators say the victim knew Priester.
He faces a $85,000 bond for his charges.
