WESTLAKE, Ohio -- A Westlake High School student arrested on Friday told police she was concerned about being able to go to prom.
Police said Darby Taylor, 18, of Avon Lake, was charged with receiving stolen property, possession of drugs and possession of a drug abuse instrument.
Officials said that Taylor had been watched by high school staff and Westlake police's school resource officer since four people were arrested earlier in the year for alleged drug abuse. At the time, she was identified as possibly being involved with drugs.
On Friday, Taylor was questioned about a purse theft. Police said a cell phone and cash belonging to another student were recovered, along with a driver's license and a checkbook stolen from a Westlake woman.
Officers said Taylor was also in possession of a syringe and a bottle of urine. According to police, Taylor said that she had the urine for a surprise parental drug test, because a "dirty" test would mean she couldn't go to prom. Police said she also wondered if her arrest would affect her attending prom.
Police said Taylor would not give any information on drug suppliers. She would only say that she was holding the stolen property and contraband for others she refused to name.
She is the girlfriend of one of the two 17-year-old Westlake boys arrested on Feb. 6 in connection with drug offenses. She is also a friend of Margaret Chern, who was arrested on drug charges on Jan. 30.
