I'm confused the links do not provide a lot of info. Was this accidental, or did he intend to shot his son?

Joel Montalvo was testing his gun indoors before either going hunting or shooting when he shot and killed his 14 (or 17 depending on the article) month old child. Wondering if there is possibly more to this sad story....
