Toddler found dead in Grimesland residence
A Grimesland-area toddler is dead, and Pitt County sheriff’s investigators are charging his mother and her boyfriend in connection with the incident, Sheriff Mac Manning said.
Pitt County sheriff’s deputies found the body of the boy, who was 2 years 4 months old, mid-morning Tuesday after receiving a telephone call from the sheriff’s office in Caroline County, Va., Manning said. Virginia deputies called local authorities and told them they needed to check on the child’s welfare.
When local deputies arrived at 657 Moores Lane, Grimesland, and entered the empty residence they found the toddler’s lifeless body wrapped in a blanket and on a bed, Manning said. It appears the child had been dead since late Friday or early Saturday morning, he said.

Preliminary observations by the medical examiner in Pitt County indicate that the child sustained injuries prior to death. Additional details were not available.
Deputies were traveling to Caroline County on Tuesday to serve arrest warrants charging the child’s mother, Denise Garcia, 32, with one count of felony child abuse and Stephen Lamont Foreman, 29, with one count of murder and one count of felony child abuse, Manning said.
[...]
Foreman and Garcia are in the custody of the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office. Manning would not say why the couple was in the custody of that sheriff’s office or how deputies in that county learned about the toddler.

Manning said it appears at least two other minor children lived with the couple. Investigators with Pitt County’s Department of Social Services are working with social services in Virginia to place the other children in protective custody, Manning said.

At least one of the children was with the couple when Caroline County deputies took them into custody, Manning said. It was unclear Tuesday night where the other child is.http://www.reflector.com/news/toddler-found-dead-grimesland-residence-40637

Boy Found Home Alone Dead
A two year old boy is dead and his parents have gone to jail.
Pitt County Sheriff Mac Manning says his deputies went to this home in Grimesland this morning and found the body of the young boy.
[...]
Detectives say the boy was wrapped in a blanket on a bed. Investigators say he has several injuries but it's not clear if those lead to his death.

Stephen Foreman faces murder charges in the case. Denise Garcia faces child abuse charges.

Neighbor Crystal Solis said, "Make you think what was the poor thing thinking as he was dying. What happened you know, just bring a lot of questions to mind. It really does and then I have three children so I think back on what if it would have been mine you never do know. What if my kids would have been playing over there and something like that would have happened to them?"

Manning says the boy has been inside the mobile home since Friday or Saturday. He says the parents left and no one was suppose to watch the boy. http://www.wcti12.com/PrinterFriendlyNews.asp?STORYNUM=1477424935&recordsource=NEWS2010

Couple turn selves in for kid's death
A North Carolina couple is facing murder and child abuse charges after stopping by the Caroline County Sheriff's Office yesterday to report the death of a 2-year-old boy.

According to Caroline Sheriff Tony Lippa, Ereana Denise Garcia and her boyfriend, Steven Lamont Foreman, both of Grimesland, N.C., stopped in Bowling Green at 8:24 a.m. yesterday to report the death of Garcia's son to law enforcement.

Garcia, 32, told police that when she woke up Saturday morning, she found her son "cold to the touch and apparently deceased," Lippa said.

Garcia then told police that she and Foreman left the child at the home in Pitt County, N.C., and traveled north, stopping only to sleep in the car, Lippa said.
[..]
Sheriff Mac Manning said his detectives found the boy dead, wrapped in a blanket lying on a bed.

"Caroline County sheriff's investigators have been working closely all day with investigators from the Pitt County Sheriff's Office," Lippa said yesterday.

Based on information developed from both agencies, the Pitt County Sheriff's Office obtained warrants charging Foreman, 29, with murder and felony child abuse. Garcia is also charged with felony child abuse.

"Preliminary observations by the medical examiner in Pitt County indicate that the child sustained injuries prior to death," Manning said.

Lippa said both have been charged with being a fugitive from justice from North Carolina and are being held at the Pamunkey Regional Jail.

Two Pitt County detectives were en route to Caroline County yesterday, and the couple will face an extradition hearing in Caroline County General District Court.http://fredericksburg.com/News/FLS/2010/072010/07072010/560208

Okay, so let me get this straight. These two viruses beat up the baby boy. They woke up one morning to a cold, dead baby boy. Then packed up their other child (third child unaccounted for), and hit the road. Apparently, after two days running, they decided, "Oh, hey, maybe it was a bad dream, so let's get the local sheriff here to call the sheriff there and do a welfare check on him. See if he's okay by himself. " Of course, he wasn't okay, he was dead.

Keeeerist! What wack-jobs! The only good thing I can say about them is they more or less turned themselves in. Can't wait to see pictures of these ones.

I wonder if we'll ever learn the little one's name?

Disturbing new details about the death of a Grimesland two-year-old boy, Da'Jon-Roundtree. Newschannel 12 has learned that the mother of the boy knew he was dead, left the state and headed to virgina.

Ereana Garcia and boyfriend Steven Foreman both face child neglect charges, and Foreman faces one count of first degree murder. They're in jail in Virginia.

Garcia woke up Saturday and found the boy dead in their Grimesland home, then she and Foreman got into the car and headed north. They decided to talk to authorities, and reported the death to the Caroline County Sheriff's office in Virginia yesterday morning.

There is no known connection of the suspects to that county. Pitt County Sheriff's deputies went to this grimesland home yesterday morning where they found the two year old's body.

He was wrapped in a blanket on a bed. Investigators say he had several injuries but it's not clear if those injuries are what killed him. Pitt County deputies and Caroline County deputies are investigating. Garcia and Foreman are also charged with being a fugitive from justice from NC.

wow, what an attractive beastily couple...

*clears throat*

Very sad and just awful. Yet another asshat of a couple who murder their loved ones. It makes me so sick and so angry how bad I want to blessed with a child and I cannot. Then you have assholes like these who just drop them out of their uterus every 6 hours or so just to hit, beat, torture and tragically kill. Just killing off their "spawn" like it's no big thing. I can't even imagine those last hours of that child...

Just laying there in a blanket, breathing life's last few minutes of air and suffering, wondering what they did to mommy and daddy dearest. Ugh, this is really bothering me....

Mother Denise Garcia faces felony child abuse charges and her boyfriend Stephen Foreman faces murder charges.
Yesterday morning the couple stopped in at the Caroline County Sheriff's office and told them Garcia's two year old Da'Jon Roundtree was dead and his body was in their home in Grimesland.

Pitt County deputies say went to the home and found Roundtree.

Detectives say on Saturday Garcia woke up at two in the morning and found her son dead. The couple decided to head North in her car. After sleeping in the car for several days they decided to go to authorities yesterday morning.

Autopsy indicates Thursday, July 8, 2010

Preliminary autopsy results released Thursday indicate a 2-year-old Grimesland boy died from non-accidental head trauma, according to the N.C. Medical Examiner’s Office in Greenville.
The report also indicates that Da’Jon Roundtree, who was found dead Tuesday inside a mobile home on Moores Lane in Grimesland, was struck multiple times and died sometime Saturday morning.
It did not say how the child was struck or if an object was used, a spokeswoman said. It listed homicide as the manner of death.
[...]
Steven Lamont Foreman and Denise Ereana Garcia, the child’s mother, waived extradition proceedings in Bowling Green, Va., according to information confirmed by Caroline County, Va., Sheriff Tony Lippa. The couple surrendered to Carolina County authorities on Tuesday.

The mother on Thursday also was charged with murder in the death. She previously had been charged with felony child abuse, Pitt investigator Lt. Karen Kilpatrick said. Foreman was charged Tuesday with one count of murder and felony child abuse.
Garcia and Foreman informed Caroline County deputies they had discovered the child “cold to the touch” Saturday morning and drove from Grimesland with Garcia’s 4-year-old child in tow, leaving the dead boy behind.

I think it would be consistent with their story if they beat him Friday night, put him to bed or even left him unconscious on the floor, and he died during the morning hours.

Couple told they could face death penalty in child's killing
A man and woman charged in the death of a 2-year-old Grimesland boy were told during an arraignment Friday morning they could face the death penalty.
District Court Judge Charles Vincent told Steven Lamont Foreman, 29, and Denise Ereana Garcia, 32, the child’s mother, that the maximum possible penalty for charges, if convicted, could be the death penalty or life in prison without possibility of parole.
District Attorney Clark Everett will investigate and review the case before determining whether to seek the death penalty, Vincent told the defendants during hearings in a courtroom at the Pitt County Detention Center.
[...]
Vincent on Friday set $5 million secured bonds for Foreman and Garcia for charges of first-degree murder and $50,000 bond for charges of intentional child abuse.
The pair will have separate defense representation, and each will be appointed two attorneys from the Capital Defender’s Office through the indigent defense fund, Vincent said. A hearing in district court on July 28 was set for both inmates.
Foreman and Garcia appeared separately in court before Vincent. Foreman, who is not the father of Garcia’s children, was silent and unemotional, speaking quietly only to answer Vincent’s questions and acknowledge his understanding of his rights.
Garcia appeared next and was also unexpressive, barely acknowledging the presence of two members of the deceased child’s family who sat in the back of the small courtroom that operates as an annex to the detention center.
Outside the building after the proceedings, Brenda Bess, the child’s stepgrandmother, and Josephine May, an aunt, said they still could not understand the child’s death.
“It’s an unbearable tragedy, for what happened and for that child to be left like that and not say anything to anyone,” Bess said of Garcia. “I just don’t understand. I don’t know why she did that.”
Bess did not know how Garcia came to be living with Foreman in Grimesland, she said. She is the stepmother of the child’s father, who lived with Garcia for some time.
“The last I knew, she was living in Belvoir,” Bess said. “I don’t know anything about (Foreman) or how she was with him. I never met him.”
Garcia’s 4-year-old girl is now living with her grandmother and being supervised by Social Services personnel, family members said. “She’s being well cared for and is in good hands,” Bess said.
May previously had regular contact with Garcia and her children but had not seen her for about seven months before the boy’s death, she said. She described Garcia as a nice girl who seemed to be taking good care of her two young children.
“It was a shock to us when we found out from the news reports,” May said. “We don’t know where this guy came from. I don’t know what happened to her.”
While Foreman and Garcia remain at the detention center, the family is trying to make arrangements for a funeral and burial for the child, May said.http://www.reflector.com/news/couple-arraigned-toddlers-death-40897

Denise Garcia and Steven Foreman are both expected in court. They face murder charges in the July 2010 death of 2-year-old Dajon Roundtree.
