20 Pit Bulls Seized; Frayser Woman Jailed
Pit bulls found sick and neglected in chicken coop and hot garage

( Memphis 07/04/2010) - A Frayser woman is in the Shelby County jail facing a long list of animal cruelty charges after almost two dozen pit bulls dogs are seized from her home. It happened on Dellwood near Whitney. The woman is being held on a $7,500 bond and will go before a judge next week.

Animal control officers removed 20 pit bulls from 1216 Dellwood. Officers say the sores and scars on them are consistent with wounds that come from dog fighting. D'D found a receipt for dog food in the yard. Still, officers paint a picture of starving, neglected animals.

An affidavit says the dogs were inactive and likely dehydrated. They found some of the dogs in a closed garage. There was no ventilation, no food and no water, according to officers. They described it as stifling inside. Other animals in the backyard were under weight with open wounds and infections. Their backbones, pelvic bones and hip bones were showing. A 3 week old puppy was kept in an elevated cage. Officers described it as more of a chicken coop. The puppy's leg was entangled in the wire floor and had to be cut free. There was water for him but no sign of food.

This time police arrested 30 year old Candice Stinson. Officers took her to jail. They put the dogs in the care of the Memphis Animal Shelter.

Candice Stinson is scheduled to be in court Tuesday to face 18 different counts that include everything from aggravated animal cruelty to not having proper rabies documentation.
