I'm surprised you guys like this film that much. :)I'll be taking my (older) son to see this for the first time sometime this weekend (I HATE crowded theaters), but I suspect that'll be the only viewing until the DVD comes out.
I'll probably wait until next weekend to take them both to Shrek the Third. I'm numb to them all (animated movies) by now. They've all blurred together at this point. Open the Hedge so that Nemo the Little Monster can choke the Incredible chicken.
For those that aren't as brain dead as me, I referenced 6 animated movies there. Open Season; Over the Hedge; Finding Nemo; Chicken Little; Monsters Inc.; The Incredibles. I probably could have referenced more, but I'm a little foggy right now. :o

My least favorite film so far. They left so much out of the book as it is (Longest book = shortest movie? I don't understand what the logic was in that) and they completely missed the point of fascist behavior displayed by Delores in the book. Very, very slow moving to boot. Nothing but exposition (Basically) until more than half way through the film.

Just saw a mexican film writen by Guillermo Arriaga(Amores Perros, 21 Grams, Babel, 3 Burrials of Melquiades Estrada) called El Bufalo De la Noche.
Ive always found Arriaga overrated but good, man was this one a miss this movie is one of the bigest pieces of shit in mexican cinema Ive seen in years.. What really is funny tho is the acting is great, the directing is good and it has a fantastic score its sole problem is how bad the script is...
The basic premise sounds quite good, mentally unstable teen kills himselve not before seting in motion a series of events to destroy his girfriend and best friend as they had been cheating on him behind his back... but its wasnt good, it was just quite stupid boring and uneventuful...

Horrorholic and I went to see Hallows Point (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0808288/) last night, and it was so terrible we couldn't help but laugh all the way through it. We met the director before the movie too, which made it that much harder to watch. He either watched it and said "I'm proud of this! Let's show it to the public!" or someone deluded the man into believing that it was worth more than a plug nickel. Everything about this movie just SUCKED. The acting, the special effects (more like special OLYMPICS effects), the lighting, the script. Thankfully, we didn't pay for it, cause I, for one, would have been PISSED. I feel bad for Horrorholic, who drove the 80-some miles for that drivel.
I'll let him tell you what he thought of it, but his sentiments echo mine.

The more I think about, the more I agree with you that its the worst thing I've seen this year. If anything, it ties with Skinwalkers. But, it far surpasses Disturbia in the shitiness category. Everything about this movie was terrible and although I have tried racking my brain since leaving ZB's house, I still cannot come up with one good thing to say about it.
The problem with this, of course, if that I am suppose to email a link to the distribution company when my review goes up. This will be awkward and I can honestly say I don't know what to do. I could write this review or I could save myself the trouble, call the studio and tell them I think it might be better if I don't put one up and see what happens. Both are sticky situations, though the latter will at least save me some work.

Saw JUNO a few nights ago. I was annoyed almost to the point of leaving for the first 20 minutes or so, but eventually got over it. I'd liken it to Garden State... Hipster editing, hipster soundtrack (my girlfriend was stoked about Belle and Sebastian... I was... not), hipster actors, hipster writing, etc. etc. Kids in designer jeans and scarves filled the theater, and were eating that shit up.
It had a few moments of hilarity, and a few moments that were genuinely moving (whether cute, sad, frustrating, etc), but overall, it didn't do a whole lot for me. By the end I was even more in love with Ellen Page (who I want to fuck... and have for a while), and hated the two guys from Arrested Development even more... And cared even less about Jennifer Garner than before (I know, who would have thought that was possible?)
Whatever... 6.5-7/10

What did you think about Jumper?
Hayden was on American Idol the other night, and Ryan Seacrest looked like a natural actor in their scenes together, while Hayden looked like a pro athlete, trying to act for the first time. I had to watch it several times, I couldn't believe how unnatural he was in front of the camera.
Did he do OK in Jumper?

He's a terrible wooden actor and I only think he was good in Life as a House, because his character was suppose to be cold and wooden.
Jumper was average. I didn't hate it. I have an odd infatuation with Rachel Bilson. She has beautiful lips, despite her rather large forehead and the fact that she sort of looks like an alien. Though, its a hot alien.
The thing that bugged me the most was there was no climax in the film, as if it was only one part of the finished product. I can almost guarantee if it does well, there will be a sequel. There are so many plot threads left hanging, its ridiculous.
It was weird because when I go, all the critics never agree on anything. But, we all agreed on 2.5-3 stars for this. I'm actually surprised its taking such a beating on Rotten Tomatoes. There are far worse things in the theatre as of now.
Oh, I saw Spiderwick last week too.:D

I saw Jumper when it first came out and enjoyed it for what it was...an action movie. The acting wasn't terrible and the scenery was great. :)
This past weekend I saw 21. Having already read the book "Bringing Down the House" I was curious to see how the movie came out. It wasn't too bad at all. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit.

Great book. I gave it to a friend who never reads and he finished it in a single sitting. Then he tried to teach himself to count cards and spent the next three years losing all his money at the casino on Paradise Island, in Nassau. Reading that book probably cost him over $100,000.
Did they take a ton of liberties with the plot, or did they stick to the facts (besides having everyone of Asian descent)

The Bank Job. Me and the kid liked it a lot. He really liked it as the beginning was nothing but titties. I couldn't catch a damn break. I don't mind him seeing a little nudity. But damn, the first half of the film was nothing but tits and ass in some fashion. :)

The last movie I attempted to see was No Country For Old Men. Now I live in this little town in Oregon so if you wait until the last week the movie is running and go in the middle of the week you can actually have the whole theater to yourself. This is how my boyfriend and I saw Superbad and it made the movie better. You can talk and laugh or whatever just like at home. So we go to see NO Country and we are again the only ones in there. We are thinking, awesome right? No. I walked out after 45 minutes because apparently even though I am 31 and 6 months pregnant and my boyfriend is also grown they thought we were going to be screwing in the theater, because they let the house lights up. Have you ever tried to watch a theater screen with the lights blazing down on you? Also, the manager leaned OUT of the projector window to tell us to put our feet down and stop talking. Remember, we were ALONE.
Sorry, that was a really long way to ask, was the movie any good? Is it worth rewatching the first 45 minutes or am I just screwed?

Not today and not at the theater. God damn $4.99 VOD but worth every penny. I was grumpy the other day and needed funny.
"Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story"
This one surpassed my low expectations, as I usually find most satirical comedies tired. I think I may have even laughed so hard I peed a little. (Y'know, weakened childbirth bladder control, but it usually only happens when I sneeze.) If you're feeling pissy, watch this movie. X-Men 2 is the best superhero film of all-time, and no one will ever change my mind on that. Also on par with TDK would be Iron Man, Spider-Man 2, X-Men, and if you want to go comics in general, A History of Violence. I like most of these BETTER than Batman Begins, and the rest would be right around the same level of TDK, outside of X-Men 2, which I already stated is my all-time favorite, and the only superhero film I've ever rated perfectly.

Oh well...it just wasn't the perfection that everyone is saying it is. It is top-tier stuff though.
And I actually agree with Horrorholic about Batman Begins feeling like a TV movie. Overall, it just feels like a set-up for something far greater, which was obviously TDK.

Oh well...it just wasn't the perfection that everyone is saying it is. It is top-tier stuff though.
See it again. It plays alot better the second time around.
And I actually agree with Horrorholic about Batman Begins feeling like a TV movie. Overall, it just feels like a set-up for something far greater, which was obviously TDK.
What action it has is epic, it has an epic score, 3 villains that are vastly different from one another, it spans decades & Batman fights an entire city. Batman Begins is alot of things, (character study, film noir, action movie, superhero movie) a tv movie isn't one of them.
And I can't really say I prefer TDK over it. (& vice versa) It's a push for me.
One gripe I have with TDK is the recasting of Rachel. Holmes is clearly the only flaw in the first film & when Nolan replaced her with Gylennhall I was all for it. (even though she's fugly) And yeah, she gives a most self-assured performance than what Holmes gave but it's not a great performance by any means. And my main gripe is that if Nolan kept Holmes I think the death of the character would've been more impactful. (continuity)
Anyways, on the topic of comic book movies, here are my faves:
10. Sin City
9. Popeye
8. Superman II
7. Hulk
6. Hellboy
5. Ghost World
4. A History Of Violence
3. Hellboy II
2. Conan The Barbarian
1. Batman Begins/TDK

She's one of the reasons I didn't think the film was perfect, myself. She's a very good actress, but having her be the love interest of so many good-looking guys with loads of money is less believable than a guy that dresses up like a bat to save his city :tongue1:
There's a couple other reasons too, but I do want to see it again. Like I said, I thought it was great (4.5/5), and so many plot strings did make it overwhelming the first time. Yet none of that really had anything to do with my small "gripes"
As for my top-10 comic book films, I'd say:
10 - Sin City
09 - Hellboy
08 - Hulk
07 - Heavy Metal
06 - X-Men
05 - Spider-Man 2
04 - The Dark Knight
03 - A History of Violence
02 - Iron Man
01 - X-Men 2
Haven't seen Hellboy 2 yet, and I'm really not into Superman what so ever, so I've never bothered with any outside of the original, which I liked OK, and the shitty Bryan Singer version
A special mention for the Dolph Lundgren version of The Punisher...that shit is epic!!

Glad to see someone else thinks Superman II is better than the original.

I don't even like the first Superman movie. It's not a bad film perse, just boring as fuck. Luthor is the dullest villain ever & Supes isn't the most interesting character either. He's at his best when he faces off against formidable opponents like General Zod.

Tropic Thunder--
This movie was very funny. When I first saw the previews and read the plot for this movie I wasn't sure which way it would to go. I felt a bit assured by the choice of cast. I really don't think that Robert Downey Jr. or Tom Cruise would take a part in a really dumb movie. I am glad that I was right. We don't go to the movies that often and I would have hated to have wasted my theater "token" on a crappy flick.
**We get tons of free movie passes but on nights that we find ourselves free (without children) we usually opt to spend that night gambling at one of the many Tribal casinos in the area. So we go from spending time at a "free" movie to dropping about 1K playing slots. We need new hobbies.
Bottom Line: I feel it was time well spent. I recommend this one for a good laugh.

I went and saw Mirrors Friday night. I hadn't even read so much as a synopsis on this film before seeing it. The boyfriend, the trooper he is (not a big horror fan but indulges my compulsion), asked me what the movie was about, and my informative answer was, "I don't really know. You know that commercial where the kid is sitting on the floor in front of the mirror and, after he gets up, the reflection is still looking at that Halle Berry lookin' bitch? Yeah, it's that one."
Now, it was an 8:00pm showing and, apparently, racial stereotype day at the theater. Events like this cause me to question my desire to see films on opening night. The theater is fucking EMPTY when we sit down, but, as soon as we do, a tribe of 10 or so Asian teenyboppers sits down immediately behind us and start fucking with cell phones and kicking my chair. I almost thought I was going to have to give my classic, "Look, I'm nearly 6' tall, and I can successfully keep my feet of the chairs in front of me for the entire two hours..." speech, but then the movie started, and the first scene was savage enough to shut them right the fuck up. Of course, 20 minutes into the movie, four young black kids came and sat next to us, and we were screwed. If it weren't for the angel of a black woman sitting in front of us who laid it down to them, I'da been jumped in the parking lot for saying something (because, if a white person shushes, it's because they're racist. Thought you knew).
The movie kept up at a decent pace throughout. Honestly, when all was said and done, it's probably the scariest movie I've seen in years and years. It's got good doses of gore, jumps AND effective suspense. Maybe it's because I wasn't expecting anything that I liked it so much, but I definitely liked it. Enough to go again, without being surrounded by dillholes.

Sounds good, Athena! I plan on seeing it sometime this week. I'm a big fan of the director, Alex Aja, and the Korean film that was the inspiration for this (called Into the Mirror) was good, but had room for improvement, so I'm looking forward to seeing what Aja does with the material.
And I know what you're saying about so many people talking in the theatre. When I saw The Dark Knight, some bitch had the giggles for some reason or another, and when I did the "shhhh!", I got the evil eye. She was black, and when someone she was sitting with told her to pipe down, she did. So yeah, I guess a white boy like me wasn't allowed to tell her to keep it down, I just paid $10 to see a movie and I'd like to watch it undistracted...:noidea:
This is why I ALWAYS try to go mid-week in the afternoon to see a film.

Yeah, had I realized before the opening credits that it was an Aja film, I might have been better prepared. The three films of his I've seen (this included) have all been disturbing on some fundamental level. :p
I was impressed because, in my opinon, Mirrors was as well balanced as I thought High Tension to be in terms of gore vs. jumps vs. actual suspense. In fact, although it's been awhile since I saw High Tension, I think Mirrors actually did significantly better in the jumps and suspense catagories. Of course, its premise lends itself to those elements much more effectively.
When you do go see it, you should hit this thread back up. I'd be interested to hear how the ending hits you.
...and yeah, I used to be a middle of the weeker, myself, up until I realized that a packed, opening-night crowd actually tends to enhance my horror experience (always chasing the dragon, these days). But that's only when it's actually a packed theater. This was sparsely populated. I should have gone to the 10:00 showing.

The House Bunny...Predictable and doesn't bring anything new to the table, but it was hilarious. Anna Faris (an underrated actress in my opinion....she's hot too) was great as usual and she carried the movie. Some of the supporting characters were good, too.

I agree. Rumer Willis actually looked decent...it must have been the brace she wore.

I just saw Burn After Reading, this movie was really great. It was better than I expected, I think Clooney's character, Harry, was my favorite out of the guys, but Linda (character name)...wow.
It's a horribly funny movie, and not a stupid funny kind of funny.
Check it out.

Just took my 14 year old daughter out for girl date night and we ended up seeing Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. I loved this movie. It was funny and sweet. Definitely a teenage comedy, and in no way does it compare to the classics by John Hughes, but not bad overall. Lots of laughs, lots of awww's. I'll end up seeing it again, more than likely.

This was a really cute movie. I will say this, I kept looking at how weird her teeth were. I think the gay band guys were just awesome. I wouldn't mind seeing it again, but I don't think I'd buy it.

Going to go see Blindness tonight. The paid reviewers seem to hate it, which usually means I'll love it. I can't wait-- haven't been to a movie in over a year.

Saw Quarantine last night. I haven't seen [REC] yet, so I can't compare the two. However, I will say that I really liked Quarantine. I found it to be fast-paced with lots of suspense and scares, some good kills and a bit of gore.
The movie is seen through the eyes of the camera man, so if one doesn't like that type of movie, then they might want to skip this one.

Blindness was good, in the Lord of the flies manner. Just not near the suspense and action I had hoped for. My reaction? Wait until it comes out on DVD or pay per view.

I just went and saw this movie today and thought it was great!!! It wasn't one of those in your face I'm trying to be funny kind of movies. It seemed more genuine and you had to be somewhat intelligent to "get" the humor. I thought it was well written and that the characters were very believable. The encounters that they have are believable as well. Some parts were predictable, but in a good way. Definitely a good movie to go and see.

got to see Ritchies' ROCKNROLLA in NYC. It's a keeper in line with "Snatch" and "Lock, Stock, and 2 Smokin Barrels". If you liked those 2 you'll like this one (not like his "Revolver").

My teen saw "The Island" this weekend. To hear her talk about it -- makes me really want to see it now. A horror movie about cloning gone wrong (sorta) ---don't want to spoil it for anyone. Modern day "the giver" in a way--if you've ever read the children's book that is....
I'll keep checking pay per view--although she said she rented it while at her Dad's, so it should be available soon.
If you get the chance to catch "Monster Camp" which is out now, my son is almost "staring" in it. It's a good sleep aid- better than Tylenol PM --He lives a very different lifestyle...:dontknow: how that happened--but, I'd bet my life he'll never show up on DD. He's a fantastic kid with an awesome heart, no matter his lifestyle.
