Pair charged in connection with shooting

The South Toledo dog that survived a kidnapping and two gunshot wounds received a warm welcome Friday and a promising prognosis during a checkup with his veterinarian.

Meanwhile, the Toledo Area Humane Society filed criminal (animal cruelty) charges against a neighbor, Eric Skowron, 34, and his girlfriend, Alisha Marie King, 29, who are accused of the shooting and abduction, parts of which were caught on video by another neighbor's surveillance cameras.

The city of Toledo prosecutor's office is considering additional charges against the pair for criminal trespass, illegal discharge of a firearm, petty theft, and filing a false police report, said John Dinon, the humane society's executive director.

Tyson, a 9-year-old shepherd, lab, and Rottweiler mix, was nearly dead on arrival the morning of June 24 at Reynolds Road Animal Hospital, after taking a .45-caliber bullet to his left eye and another to his chest the previous evening.

The bullets pierced through flesh and layers of tissue to lodge in the tricep of his front right leg.

Surveillance camera footage from the night of June 23 appears to show two attempts by Mr. Skowron and Ms. King to lure the dog out of his owner's yard and toward Mr. Skowron's home. Twenty minutes later, the wounded dog stumbles home and collapses on the ground.

Police reports show that Mr. Skowron next called 911 to say he had just shot a dog who was attacking his own dog. But officers found no evidence to substantiate that claim.

Sadly these sadistic bitches (and I ain't talking about the dogs) will probably get more time for filing a false police report than they will the vicious acts they committed on that poor dog. Shame it's illegal to give people like them a taste of their own medicine. Dogs are like big, furry babies. Innocent and trusting. That dog followed her out on the leash without even putting up a fight. In my mind if someone can willingly hurt an animal that docile, they're more than capable of hurting a child or taking a human life someday.

Skowron and King

TOLEDO, OHIO -- A South Toledo man accused of shooting a dog and leaving him for dead appeared in court.

Officials say Eric Skowron and Alisha King kidnapped and shot Tyson, a neighbor's Labrador-Rottweiler in late June. Surveillance video from a neighboring home shows King walking up to the home of Josh Luck and taking Tyson from the backyard. She then followed a vehicle, driven by Skowron, down the street with the dog in tow, according to police.

Tyson was shot twice and was later seen in the video walking back to his home and collapsing by the front drive. He survived the shooting and is recovering from partial loss of vision, memory loss and other heart injuries.

Skowron and King have each been charged with one count of prohibitions concerning companion animals torture and one count of killing or injuring animals. They were arraigned in Toledo Municipal Court Friday morning where they plead not guilty to all charges. A judge ordered them to have no contact with Tyson or his owners. They are both free on their own recognizance until their trial begins.

Skowron was fired from his job at Fermi 2 Nuclear Power Plant. He lost his security clearance due to using a firearm and filing a false police report. He also has a domestic violence charge on his record. Don't know if he was convicted of it or not.

Tyson the dog had surgery earlier this week to remove the eye that was shot. Apparently he is doing well.

And they look so normal,
I don't see how a judge can let him be free on his own recognizance
when he discharged a firearm, filed a false police repot and he has domestic violence charge on his record
Plus the Video, what the hell!!!

Suspect in dog's shooting rearrested

A Toledo man charged with luring his neighbor's dog onto his property and then shooting it twice was taken into custody Tuesday after a Toledo Municipal Court judge determined that he violated orders to stay away from the pet owners.

Eric Skowron appeared in court yesterday after a complaint was filed against him by Kelly Luck. Ms. Luck alerted the court that Mr. Skowron had been seen driving past her home in violation of the judge's orders.

After a brief hearing, Judge Michael Goulding revoked Mr. Skowron's recognizance bonds and ordered that he be held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of a $3,000 surety bond. Yesterday he was released from the jail after bond was paid.

At their July arraignment, the couple were warned not to have contact with the dog's owners, including driving past their home.

I watched a report about this on TV a while back. The video was agonizing to watch.

If it wasn't for the neighbors surveillance camera, these two would (probably) never have been caught.

There is a facebook page called Tending for Tyson (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tending-for-Tyson/134069353289680) documenting his recovery and the court battle. Many pics of Tyson. As bad as the story is, it's nice to know Tyson is loved and cared for.

Tyson is the sweetest dog you'll ever meet. Even after the shooting, 13abc was able to come to our home and he welcomed them, letting them pet him and everything. He is not a vicious animal at all. These people live right down the street from us and they stole our dog and shot him with a 45 in the eye and in the side. Luckily, the bullets missed any major organs, arteries, and his brain. He is surviving but he is facing a day by day struggle. We are doing everything we can to make sure these sick people are put away and justice served. One thing I wonder is whether they removed the dog from the perpetrators home.

Plea rejected in dog shooting case Judge sets trial, says attack on dog 'serious' public threat

A judge in Toledo Municipal Court rejected a plea agreement Wednesday in the case of a South Toledo man and his Michigan girlfriend accused of stealing a neighbor's dog and shooting it.

Mr. Skowron is charged with animal torture, killing or injuring animals, firearms discharge, making a false police report, petty theft, endangering, and criminal trespass. Ms. King is charged with animal torture, killing or injuring animals, petty theft, and criminal trespass.

Judge Goulding rejected an agreement reached by prosecutors and defense attorney Don Cameron that would have dropped the weapons charge against Mr. Skowron in exchange for his plea on two first-degree misdemeanors and a fourth-degree misdemeanor, attorneys said.

Prosecutors said Mr. Skowron potentially would served up to 13 months in jail under such a plea.

Mr. Cameron said the weapons charge interferes with Mr. Skowron's ability to keep his job because he's employed with an iron workers unit that does work at the Fermi 2 nuclear power plant in Monroe County. Because of security rules, Mr. Skowron couldn't work at the plant with a criminal weapons violation. He is suspended from working at the plant pending the outcome of the charges, Mr. Cameron said.

But Judge Goulding said he couldn't accept such a plea arrangement "in good conscience."

"It's alleged that he discharged a large-caliber handgun and fired more than one shot," the judge after the hearing. "If those allegations were true, that's a serious offense to community safety."

Judge Goulding moved their jury trial from next week to Jan. 25 and Jan. 26.

I like this judge. He is demanding that this despicable criminal be held accountable for ALL of his actions in this case. Since when should the DA take charges off if it will effect the criminals job. Perhaps the criminal should have thought of that before he committed such a horrible crime.

I'm liking this judge too. Make this guy accountable for using a gun to shoot someone just for fun. And even a dog is someone in most families. Hope the jerk shoots himself next time.

I just might write this judge a letter and let him know how grateful I am that finally *someone* is taking animal cruelty for the egregious crime that it is. Just seems like all anyone ever gets is a slap on the wrist. I'm glad these asshats will get more than that, especially because people who commit a crime this brazen are truly a danger to society.

Just checked out Tyson's page...so glad to see this sweet, handsome doggieguy is doin' better. I love dogs (and cats) of all breeds, but "Labweilers" have a special place in my heart, as I had one growing up.

I just sent Judge Goulding an email applauding his decision. I am truly glad this Judge has a conscience.

A South Toledo man and his Michigan girlfriend have been found guilty of stealing and shooting a neighbor's dog.

They both plead no contest Wednesday in Toledo Municipal Court to misdemeanor charges of cruelty to animals and additional individual charges.

In addition to a cruelty to animals charge, Skowron plead no contest to firearms discharge. Charges of theft, endangering and filing a false police report against Skowron were dropped as part of a plea deal.

A charge of trespass against King was also dropped. She plead no contest to petty theft in addition to the animal cruelty charge.

The pair is set to be sentenced on March 3. Skowron faces up to 13 months in jail while King could face up to 12 months.

Tyson continues to recover from partial loss of vision, memory loss and other heart injuries.

A South Toledo man and his Michigan girlfriend avoided a forthcoming trial date by pleading no contest Wednesday in Toledo Municipal Court to misdemeanor charges of stealing and then shooting a neighbor's dog last summer.

The dog absorbed both bullets and survived, but suffered injuries that his owners say required more than $10,000 in veterinary care.

In a negotiated plea before Judge Michael Goulding, both Mr. Skowron and Ms. King pleaded no contest to charges of cruelty to animals.

Mr. Skowron also entered a no contest plea to firearm discharge and cruelty to animals. And Ms. King pleaded no contest to petty theft.

As part of the agreement, prosecutors dropped charges against Mr. Skowron of theft, endangering, and filing a false police report. And they dropped a trespass charge against Ms. King.

Judge Goulding found the pair guilty Wednesday and scheduled them to return to court March 3 for sentencing. Mr. Skowron faces up to 13 months in jail, and Ms. King could face a year.

Assistant Prosecutor Michelle Albert-Turvey said after Wednesday's pre-trial that despite strong evidence against the couple, she preferred to seek a partial conviction now rather than wait for the outcome of the jury trial formerly scheduled for next week.

"It's always a gamble at trial -- you roll the dice and you never know," Ms. Albert-Turvey said. "I'd rather take the conviction like this than try it and not get a conviction."

Tyson's owners, Kelly Luck and her son, Josh, declined to comment on Wednesday's plea agreement pending the outcome of their civil lawsuit in Lucas County Common Pleas Court against Mr. Skowron and Ms. King. That suit seeks in excess of $25,000 for Tyson's care, plus $150,000 in punitive damages.

Last month Judge Goulding rejected an early plea agreement in the criminal case against Mr. Skowron and Ms. King because it would have dropped the weapons charge against Mr. Skowron. The judge called the gun discharge "a serious offense to community safety."

Mr. Skowron's attorney, Don Cameron, disliked the weapons charge because it would interfere with Mr. Skowron's ability to keep his job with an iron workers unit that does work at the Fermi 2 nuclear power plant in Monroe County.

Mr. Cameron said Mr. Skowron won't be allowed to work at Fermi 2 because his new criminal weapons violation goes against plant security rules. He declined to say more about the case until after the March sentencing.

Mr. Skowron could face up to 6 months jail time for each of his two first-degree misdemeanors. The fourth-degree misdemeanor, criminal trespass, could net him an additional month for a total of 13 months in jail.

Each of Ms. King's two first-degree misdemeanors could result in up to 6 months in jail, and altogether, a full year.

Are we suppose to feel sorry for him?

Should have thought about his job before abducting, shooting and leaving for dead a living breathing animal.

The ONLY reason I would feel bad about this is that it could affect paying restitution/vet bills.
