This happened a long time ago but i just saw it. How could anyone be so evil?

FRANKLIN, Ind., June 28— A man who prosecutors say fathered a child just so he could kill him to exact revenge on his wife was charged today with murder.

The man, Ronald L. Shanabarger, told police officers that he had planned the crime to punish his wife, Amy, who before they married had refused to cut short a vacation to comfort him after his father had died, prosecutors said.

''Shanabarger said he planned to make Amy feel the way he did when his father died,'' prosecutors said in an affidavit filed to support the murder charge.

Last Tuesday, just hours after the funeral of their son, Tyler, Mr. Shanabarger confessed to his wife that he smothered their son in his crib the night before Father's Day, investigators said. A coroner had ruled that the infant, who was 7 months old, died from sudden infant death syndrome.

The next day, Mr. Shanabarger, 30, told police officers that he had suffocated Tyler with plastic wrap and that he dreamed up the crime after his father's death in 1996, prosecutors said.

The prosecutors' affidavit said Mr. Shanabarger's plan included marrying Amy and getting her pregnant. He then ''allowed time for her to bond with the child, and then took his life,'' the affidavit said.

The authorities said Mr. Shanabarger begged officers in this town about 20 miles southeast of Indianapolis to shoot him after he confessed Wednesday.

Mr. Shanabarger, who was ordered held without bond, wore a brown flak jacket over a striped jail jumpsuit as he gave brief answers at the hearing today. The judge ordered that a public defender be appointed and set a trial date for Nov. 30.

Prosecutors said Mr. Shanabarger told them that on the evening of June 19, he wrapped plastic wrap around his son's face, then left the boy's nursery to get something to eat and brush his teeth.

Twenty minutes later, he returned, removed the plastic and placed Tyler face down in the crib before he went to bed, prosecutors said.

Ms. Shanabarger, 29, worked that night as a grocery store cashier. When she came home, she went straight to bed, assuming that Tyler was asleep. She found the boy's body the next morning, Father's Day.

Mr. Shanabarger, who worked at a tire retreading center, told the police that he confessed because he was haunted by the image of his son's face, investigators said.

Mr. Shanabarger has confessed at least three times, Police Chief Harry Furrer said. Each time, the police said, the story has been the same -- that he hatched his plan because he was enraged by his girlfriend's refusal to cut short a cruise and return home after his father's death in October 1996.

So, let me get this straight...

In 96 his fiancee refuses to cut short a vacation to come home & comfort him when his dad dies. So, for vengeance he marries her, assumably acts like he's over it, and then murders his own child 3 years later? err wtf?

Are you telling me, he started planning to get her pregnant & murder the baby right from the start?

I would have been pissed off as well if my SO had decided to continue vacationing when one of my parents had died, but I would have just LEFT him...

What a sick fucker! Did he not bond with his baby? Did he not value his baby as much as his father? Was he not kin? How positively like a Greek Tragedy this is. Unbelievable.

That would have been WAY too good for this freak.

This right here:

This give me faith that he will live with remorse, guilt and regret for what he did for the rest of his sorry, pitiful, wretched excuse for a life.

Here's to hoping that his cellmate finds out what this evil creature did, manages to sneak some plastic wrap in right before lights out, then puts his lights out for good. He should learn first hand how that little baby who was innocent of any "wrong doings" toward him felt as he fought to breathe while "daddy" went and had a snack and brushed his teeth.

Don't get me wrong the loss of a parent is hard, but he helped create this little life for the soul purpose of ending it. All that baby did was be born to the wrong father. As for the baby's mother, if he hated her THAT much he could have just ended it. He didn't have to go to such lengths for revenge. I'll never understand people like this. Kid's are so precious and so trusting. He had a chance to be a good dad, something his own father must have been for him to have hurt so badly, but instead he coldly murdered his son, blew his one chance at being a good man. I bet if there is a heaven (and I hope there is, a place for all these tiny babies where they can be safe and loved), his father is watching and very ashamed of him right now.

He is one of the worst kinds of evil. Cold and calculating. This wasn't a case of him losing his patience and hitting the baby, or even a moment of depression. This was thought out and planned for years.

He chills me to the bone.

I hope that remorse consumes him to the very end. I don't want it to stop with just the monster seeing baby's sweet face. I also want him to hear his child cry, laugh, coo. I want him to relive the night he took baby's life, his own flesh in blood. I want him to hear a sweet child's voice say Daddy, over and over until he looses his mind.

Still all that wouldn't make me feel like justice was ever served.

...he was haunted by the image of his son's face...

Can you imagine? I know people can be evil but this is a class into itself on evil.

Projected onto a large screen was a color photo of the lifeless baby in his crib, his blanched face clearly visible.Seeing this photo will help burn in the face of his son to memory. Live in hell Mr. Shanabarger baby killer.

Rest in peace baby Tyler, you deserved a fair chance at life to be loved completely.
