New Jersey - A Maple Shade man was charged with sexual assault Thursday night after his victim stole his glasses and kept him from getting away.
Varian Jones, 38, was arrested at 8:28 p.m. He allegedly offered the victim a ride from a Camden bus stop in his black Nissan Pathfinder.
"The sexual assault occurred at 19 New Road in Oldmans Township," said Sgt. Steve Jones of the New Jersey State Police. "The victim then took Jones's glasses -- he is hardly able to see without the glasses -- and ran to a house on Pennsville-Pedricktown road."
At the house, the victim, whose name was withheld by police, told residents what occurred and contacted state police.
When police arrived, the woman led officers to the scene of the assault.
"When troopers from the Woodstown (state police barracks) arrived at the scene they found the Jones groping the ground around his vehicle attempting to locate his glasses," Sgt. Jones said. "Officers seized the vehicle and took him into custody."
