Part of a new series of films released in March 2008. Yep, straight to video. I was plesantly surprised. Not the greatest movie, yet I really felt disgust and at times extreme tension. I was entertained. A group of college kids go to a little town across the border in Mexico. Kidnapping, torture, drugs....
I suggest you check it out. What made it more compelling was it was based on true events. I watched special features and did a little online hunting. While the movie doesn't state the name. It is believed to be based on the killing of Mark Kilroy. See it, and watch the special features.

Borderland

Basic premise: Three young men make an impromptu trip to Mexico to celebrate graduation. All is well and good until they become the apparent prey of a local "blood cult" looking to sacrifice one of them.

All in all, it was a decent film. The production quality was good; the acting was above average for the horror genre; the movie employed a fairly rich cast of characters. I was especially fond of the villain who was an almost regal representation of the "kind killer" dichotomy.

One thing I hated about this film: Either I'm just slow, or there were some holes in the plot. Not enough to ruin it for you, but enough to be annoying.

One thing I loved about this film: Toward the end of the film, one character makes a crazy noise...repeatedly. The film is worth watching for that piece of unintentional comedic glory, alone.

6/10
