After a nice debut into the spotligth with a few cool films in succesion everything Diesel has done in years has been pure shit but I absolutley love Kassovitz so im actually exited about this flick.

Between this and the likley to suck but likley to do great at the B.O. 4 Fast 4 Furious the guy is up for a comeback.

I think this looks pretty cool. I get a big Children of Men vibe from it.

Ugh...they used Lux Aeterna... any film that uses that song is bound to fail. It's the Requiem for a Dream song, douchebags...

Mathew Kassovitz has gone on the record saying it will suck badly, Fox hasnt really promoted it... Personally I still want to see it but looks like it will bomb really bad.

I agree...I have never seen a trailer for it on television, or any advertisements for it on the net...plus it's a concept that's been covered (from a critic's standpoint, it's done well), as a dystopia...we have Blindness coming out soon too. It just seems like a cheap fantastical version of Children of Men (which was a great movie). Plus from what Kassovitz has stated, he had little if any creative control over the film. Which is never any good for any director.

Off-topic but I have to say Julianne Moore's death was so unexpected in that movie. :he:

...it's not just the lack of originality or the questionable lead casting that kills the movie, as much as all the factors being combined in such a slapshod way that you wonder how this possibly could have gotten through any quality control system.

...if we haven't seen essentially the exact same plot done better in Alfonso Cuaron's "Children of Men"...

...and it's immediately apparent that placing this sort of one-dimensional character into any attempt at a serious dystopian future shock story immediately detracts from any intelligence.

...especially when it ends with a lame headscratcher of an epilogue, which makes it seem as if some important explanatory scene was left out. It's the final slap in the viewer's face that the torment to one's sanity ends in such an awful and unsatisfying resolution.

...ouch. It sounds terrible.

2/10 (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/reviewsnews.php?id=48325) apparently. I'll still watch a bootleg though.

So, I am watching this film now (PM me if you want a link). It's not as bad as the reviewer stated it to be. It's still fairly terrible (I am only 24 minutes in). My biggest issue with the film is that the actors have no chemistry whatsoever. Diesel's lines seem forced, the female lead is frigid and Yeoh is just sort of "there". The plot isn't so much confusing as it's haphazardly thrown together - my bet is on poor editing. The cinematography is also terrible...it's much too dark in the film. I understand they were trying to capture atmosphere but in my opinion they overdid it...

I'd say 4/10. I'm not done though...still an hour to go.

I wanted to like this movie, I really did. Not only was the plot totally confusing, but the movie itself was hard to watch, in many places the camera seemed too damn shaky.
