ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A woman called deputies for help after she says a repo man punched her in the face and it was all over a $10 dispute with an Orange County car dealership.
When WFTV tried to talk to the repo company Friday, someone who appeared to be in charge said he didn't want WFTV on the property and then ran from the camera. They refused to answer any questions about repossessing the woman's car from her Orlando apartment complex on Dean Road.
Pam Saindrose says she wishes she'd never seen Auto Sensation USA (see map).
"I feel like every minute I have to watch my back. I'm scared," she said.
Saindrose was on a plan to pay twice a month on her 2001 black Mazda. Last month, she was low on cash and she claims the dealership agreed to let her pay in full at the end of the month, which was $510. But a day before that happened, just as she was leaving her complex for work, she had a flat tire.
"Two guys came up behind me and just ask me do I need help?" she explained.
Minutes later, she says, one tried to take her car, she jumped on him, tried to get him out of the car and then he punched the gas, dragging her across the ground; a third man then stepped in.
"Bigger than both of them, punched me in the face," she said.
Saindrose said that man grabbed her keys. She jumped in the car and found her spare key and took off.
"I thought I was getting carjacked, she said."
As she was leaving, she learned it was repo men. Investigators say they were two men from Big Dog Recovery and one from the dealership.
Still, Saindrose tried to pay her car in full with cash, but since the dealership didn't have change for $520 she gave $500 and was supposed to pay $10 later. Instead, two days later, they repossessed her car over $10.
"Did you guys repossess her car for $10?" WFTV reporter Jeff Deal asked an employee.
The man from the dealership wouldn't answer questions and ran from the cameras, but admitted to investigators it was a $10 dispute.
"All I want to know is how do they sleep at night?" she asked.
It is legal to repossess over any breach of contract, even $10. But it’s not legal to take the car if the owner is present and says there's a dispute.
Investigators plan to file charges against the two repo men from Big Dog Recovery for breach of peace and possibly battery.Copyright 2010 by wftv.com. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
