Now, this subject matter came up over at Fangoria, and I wrote a quick post there that I thought might be useful, as well as stimulating as far as discussion of the subject mattter goes. So, here it is:

As per the company initially mentioned, I ordered from Flesh Wound Video a while back, and was very impressed with it. They are definitely one of the best grey market companies around. Their site design sucks, to the point where it was actually impossible to add certain items I wanted to my cart. But for what I did get, I have no complaints.

Now, I have dealt with a bunch of other greys, so I'll share my thoughts for those that I remember:

Revenge Is My Destiny - Not as good as FWV, but they do respectable products. And they definitely have alot of really cool stuff that I've not seen floating around elsewhere. They ship pretty damn quickly too.

SuperHappyFun - Decent products, and they stock some films otherwise unavailable, which is cool. My issue with them is that a large portion of their titles are merely ripped directly from European and Asian dvds. I have a handful of said discs only because they were free.

Bijouflix - Nothing too impressive, but certainly a fine company to order from. They have a couple of titles I've never seen elsewhere, and that is their main selling point.

Gravedigger - These guys used to be pretty good. They had alot of fairly offbeat stuff that I enjoyed. Sadly, they're no long in business.

B-Videos 101 - I'm not sure whether they're still filling orders, as their site is incredibly out of date. If they are, may be worth looking at. Again, some great titles. And their custom made compilation, B-Videos 101: Sexual Insanity, lives up to the name, and is worth getting.

Mondo Pop Cinema - Very limited selection. But they do quality work. I only have a few of their spaghetti westerns, but I assume that reflects their work in general, therefore leading me to endorse them.

LFVW - Not great, but good enough for the quality. But be warned: some of their films, particularly their french smut, is ripped from existing DVDs sold in Europe. Check each title before buying.

Visual Pain - AVOID! I don't feel like going into all the details, but to be brief, I will say that they are the WORST web-based company I have EVER dealt with. Their products are horrible, they take forever to ship, they fill orders incorrectly, and are extremely rude when that is pointed out them, refusing to rectify the situation. After having problems with them for 4 months, and their refusal to rectify it, I reported them to the proper authorities in the UK, as their company violates at least a dozen laws there. Sadly, they seem to still be in business.

I know there are at least 3 or 4 others that I tried, but at the moment, their names escape me. If they come back, I'll edit the post accordingly.

Now, clearly others exist. I have a blog which I haven't updated in a while, but was considering taking up again (anybody think I ought to?), wherein I have a static page listing such companies. It is slightly out of date, so I'll fix it in the next few days, since a couple of those sites have died, and I think a link or two may be missing. But, for now, it is still a decent reference. Thus, those wanting more companies should click here (http://gprime.wordpress.com/list-of-dvd-r-companies/).

Hope that helped somebody.
