Maybe not in the movie, but probably at the box office.

The most recent industry tracking has shown some pretty dismal results in regards to this cartoon adaptation. Fantasymoguls.com (http://news.fantasymoguls.com/originalcontent/2008/04/special-advance.html) is reporting that Un-Aided Awareness is stronger for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, at 9 percent, than it is for Speed Racer which is at 8 percent. Keep in mind that the Narnia sequel won’t hit theaters until May 16.

Well, personally I do want to see this one and could care less for Narnia two, prince of bogaloo...
I do think they had made a shity job at promoting it tho, It needs more trailers, more "leaked" pictures of Trixie, more fake tv shows analising the specks of the Mach 5 and crap like that...
Speaking of trailers they need a calmed story presenting one.
Everyone knows for movies like this you need a "let the bodys hit the floor" trailer to gangrape people senses, wich they do have and its a threat to the epileptics...
As well as a more 'here's the complex story of this japanimation turned pg movie', see how profound it is because we are puting things in slo mo after dialogues, taking no image on screen breaks and have ominous music. that one they are missing...

I tried to post this in a Screamin' comment earlier, but it kept disappearing. Lest anyone think I'm not truly a Speed fan, this is a shelf in my office:

Go Liz-Racer, GO!
Who am I going to get to be my Racer X? My Trixie?
BTW, anyone ever notice that Trixie LOOKS LIKE Speed in drag? The song could say, instead of, "He's a demon on wheels," "He's a queenie on heels"...
My first ferret was named Spridle, only we spelled it Sprytle.

What bothers me about this movie is basically exactly what everyone else has said. It looks like they took every CG effect known to man, amped it up by 20, and applied it to the film.
I mean realistically its a movie about a cartoon that had a subplot involving a monkey. This is not that complex of a film. I really don't understand where this whole "lets make it look like one fucked up acid trip" look came from...

That intro looks pedophilic. And the racing sequences look pretty stupid.
But why is there not a 360/PS3 game coming out alongside this film? The movie hurts my eyes, but it would be a GREAT style for a racing game a'la Wipeout.

Ahhh never mind, you said PS3/360, I need to perfect on that thing called reading.

No biggie. I was going to check this one out, but the Wii graphics can't do the movie justice. I was thinking about how great Tron looked on the PC, and how much I love a good Wipeout game.

Besides the grapics being shity you should wait for some reviews, those film based games tend to be rushed, you could end up with a stinker but yea, the premise really lends itselve to what should be a quality game.

What was that quote by Quentin Tarantino.... if he wanted all this CGI bullshit in his movies, he'd stick his dick in a Nintendo.
I wonder what QT thinks of Speed Racer? I would fucking pay top dollar to own a copy of Speed Racer with a commentary track by Quentin Tarantino.

There was an extended preview of it before Iron Man started and I swear it was making me dizzy. I couldn't tell what the hell was going on. It's just too much information to digest that quickly. I think they might have been better off just making this direct to video for the fans.

Well, looks like you were rigth, Ironman bashed Speed Racer's bumper real bad despite it being its second weekend. It was already expected to come in second to it but not by such a margin. Narnia 2 will likeley do much better...
Iron Man - $50,500,000 - Total so far: $177,134,000
Speed Racer - $20,210,000
What Happens in Vegas - $20,000,000 (Ouch Speed, you were nearly beat by a chick flick that looks retarded).
Personally I really liked Speed Racer, it was silly popcorn fun at all times.

My boyfriend is trying to drag me to this. I told him it looks like a bad acid trip and being pregnant I may hurl all over him from looking at it. He didn't find that funny. Since everybody is saying it sucks I really won't go now.

I really dont think it sucks at all, its a great popcorn film, really kid friendly too. Horrorholic here gave it 7 stars (http://www.screamindemon.com/2008/05/09/speed-racer-2008/), I fully agree with evereything he wrote.
That said you would must definatley hurl over your BF in your state and should really avoid it, no joke.
Its like having your sences gang raped, Too much sound, too much colour, too fast editing.

I agree. It might be good but it looks like it would just be too much for me on a big screen. I will most likely watch it on DVD. We are going to see Ironman though.

Yeah, I checked rottentomatoes today. Iron Man is super "fresh," but poor Speed is pretty rotten.
