Man Charged In Baby's Death Released From Jail
Kevin Adams Put On House Arrest

EASLEY, S.C. -- An Easley man who is charged in the death of his girlfriend's 7-month-old baby was released from jail Thursday.

Kevin Brian Adams, of Piedmont, is charged with homicide by child abuse in the death of Braydon Alexander Odell.

Adams has been in jail since May 2010.

On Thursday, Adams was released from jail on a personal recognizance bond. Adams was placed under house arrest while the investigation continues.

Easley police said Braydon was the son of Michael Shane O'Dell, of Honea Path, and Holli Hawkins, of Easley.

Adams is Hawkins' boyfriend, police said.

At the time of Adam's arrest, neighbor Lisa Gaines told News 4 she woke up to screaming outside her Easley apartment. That's when she stepped out and and saw an officer trying to perform CPR on Braydon outside the apartment while Hawkins, Adams and several others watched.

Braydon died later at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

An arrest warrant said Adams "did grab, shake or violently move the child during which extensive and fatal injuries were caused to the child."

Investigators said Adams has an extensive criminal history, including previous convictions for drugs, assault and fraudulent checks.

The solicitor's office said Adams' next court date is Feb. 27 in Pickens County.

An Easley man charged in the death of his girlfriend’s 7-month-old baby pleaded guilty to a lesser charge on Monday, as the family of the child spoke out on his behalf.

Kevin Bryan Adam, of Piedmont, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of Braydon Alexander Odell.

Adams was arrested in May 2010 and charged with homicide by child abuse. An arrest warrant said Adams "did grab, shake or violently move the child during which extensive and fatal injuries were caused to the child."

Adams’ lawyer said his client thought Braydon had something stuck in his throat and he was trying to assist the child’s breathing.

The prosecutor said had the case gone to trial they couldn’t prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Adams had ill will toward the child.

Braydon’s mother, grandmother and father all gave tearful pleas on Adams’ behalf, saying he was trying to save the 7-month-old.

On Monday, the judge sentenced Adams to five years of probation.

Investigators said Adams has an extensive criminal history, including previous convictions for drugs, assault and fraudulent checks.

How would shaking a baby help relieve it from choking? Poor Braydon had no one on his side.

:confused2:

They are all village idiots, then. None of them recognized that whatever he was doing was killing the child? None of them knew the Heimlich?

These people are seriously mentally deficient or something. Shaking a baby will kill a baby. The man shook the baby. Two plus two is four. He's a murderer, FFS. It is unbelievable that the baby's family stood up for his killer and the guy gets probation. It's really sad when a baby's life is worth so little. Five years probation will give him just tons of incentive not to ever to that to a kid again.

Yeah, right.

Maybe he was hitting the baby's back too hard, trying to dislodge whatever was stuck in there. That could make his head snap back and forth, if hit with enough force and he was sitting up. Oh hell, my village is calling...
