This one really bothers me, this is a friend's niece, there (as usual) is much more to this story than media covered. Couldn't find an abundance of info on the case (possibly b/c he was police chief for 20 years? - including when most of molestation occured)
Particularly troublesome is the fact that he threatened the girl and her mother's (his wife of many years) life with his gun.
At any rate it all started when the child was 12, they only count charges until the child is an adult at age 18. The abuse continued until the "step" daughter was 19 and home on visit from college. The "step" father told the girl's mother they needed a "father daughter day" (even though his defense lawyer used the fact that she was never adopted by him to avoid incest charges) and they went shopping many miles away at a shopping outlet also in Michigan, staying the night at a hotel. The daughter, over a couple years, mentioned telling her mother what was going on, to which the cowardly david black responded with the life threat. Upon returning from shopping the next day, the mother saw inappropriate exchanges between her daughter and her "step" father. She called police and an investigation ensued. David Black immediately went "on the run" although they were able to track him for a period of time because the dumb ass ex-police chief didn't even have the sense to disable his gps tracking in his cell phone - fucking idiot.
The real travesty here is that he victimized a child of 12 and much like thousands of other victims, brainwashed the child until the child obviously suffered a variation stockholm syndrom, until she was at the point that she emplored the judge to only sentence the offender to 1 year for every one year of abuse suffered.
The "step" father, in an award winning performance decides to plead guilty (the real oscar award for this act is the difference between life imprisonment for the charges and 9-15 for those he plead guilty to) in order to "Spare the victim from having to go through a trial"
Shit makes me sick - so hey all you fucking pervs raping your wives children over the course of decade + of marriage, just dont adopt your step child and you can be back out recruiting victims in 9-15!
How many years until this now 19 year old victim truly realizes that this was not a consenting relationship. That as a direct result of a person in multiple positions of authority ("step father", mothers penis, police chief) victimized her during one of the most emotional times in a young girl's life?
