Baltimore city school officials are investigating a suspected cause of bullying after a girl threatened to commit suicide.
Mother Geneva Biggus said her 8-year-old daughter tried to jump out of a window at Gilmor Elementary School on April 20 following taunts and beatings from classmates.
Biggus said her daughter, Shaniya Boyd, who has cerebral palsy, told her that she wanted to get away after she was teased, knocked off her crutches and kicked in the head.
"Three people were fighting me -- two girls and one boy. That boy kicked me in my forehead for no reason, and then the other two was just hitting on me," Boyd told 11 News about her last day at the school.
(...)
She said the abuse had been going on for some time and that the school did little to stop it.
"They tried to separate them and put them in different classes, but it still happened in the hallway or cafeteria or outside when they had play time -- stuff like that. They still managed to get their hands on my child," Biggus said.
The three students have been suspended since the incident, school officials said.

This one just fucked with me really bad. My niece has cerebral palsy, which I've explained here before. She is an absolutely amazing, beautiful child and I love her so much...like one of my own. We just started working with her and a walker...shes 4 and still not able to walk.
I have to honestly say that if I were this child's mother, I would find it hard not to kick a kid's ass. Now, I know I would never actually do it, but I would debate it. What kind of parents must these kids have that they think this kind of behavior is ok? I live in a pretty terrible neighborhood and every day I stand with my daughter at the bus stop watching the other kids behave horribly, I remind her that it is NOT ok to act like that. She recognizes that her cousin is different and I've talked to her many times about how being different isn't a bad thing and that we accept EVERYONE no matter how they look or speak.

I saw this on the news. It is horrible sad thing. Baltimore City schools are shit. I dont see them doing anything about this in all reality.

Well, they found a new school where things are going well for her. The kids there must not be sociopaths.

Fear of something like this happening is the main reason why my grandmother didn't let my aunt, who has moderate CP, go to school. My aunt is actually quite intelligent, but since her CP affects her motor skills, she's unable to articulate like someone who doesn't have CP, so she's difficult to understand. She's also always had a bit of trouble walking (I was always scared that she was going to fall down because of the way she walked), but because of her age and osteoporosis, she has to use a walker or wheelchair now.

My niece also has moderate CP. She's still very young, so at this point although mentally she is like most 4 year olds she isn't quite where she needs to be physically. Actually, just yesterday she finally started to walk on her own with a walker. I'm so proud of her!! We all worry about how she will deal with school and I think that they plan to homeschool her at least at first. Its a terrible thing when a parent has to worry about a child as young as 8 with a disability. As I explained before, I try sooo hard to make sure that my kids are not judgemental of ANYONE. What kind of parents must they have that they think that this type of aggressive behavior is okay or justified? One thing I hope I can say about my children as they grow older is that they are accepting of everyone. They'd have to be with a freak of a mom like they have. :proud2:
