My bet is Nicole Turner did.
OK I feel like and idiot for not catching this on the news earlier, didn't watch a lot of news this weekend so missed it until tonight. This happened here in town and now that I've gone over some articles, my BS meter is going nuts. This child was staying at the father's girlfriends apartment for the last week along with her own 5 yo and 7 mo child. She claims she wakes up Saturday 5:30am morning to find Julian gone and door unlocked. She waits an hour 1/2 to call police, hours later he is found 1/2 mile from the apartment, face down in a grassy patch.

Austin, TX - Family members of a 5-year-old Travis County boy say they're still searching for answers on how he died, but they're opening up on how he became missing.

Friends and family members gathered at the hair salon where Julian's father worked, for a candle light vigil Sunday evening.

Julian went missing from an apartment complex on Shoreline Drive early Saturday morning.

Travis County investigators say his caretaker did not report him missing until about an hour and a half after she noticed he was gone.

Nicole Turner, the caregiver, has had her children taken away from her by Child Protective Services. Turner has a 7-month-old child with Julian’s father, and a 5-year-old daughter from another relationship.

His body was found later that morning in the front yard of someone's home about a half a mile away.

The family says Travis County investigators called them and told them Julian's death would be investigated as a homicide and that Julian may have suffered internal bleeding.

Officials said details on the cause of the death would not be released while the investigation was ongoing, but that it was being looked at as a homicide.

Meanwhile, the boy’s father Leonard Soliz, confirmed that the boy had internal injuries. He also said that his current girlfriend had been taking care of the boy for the past week. He said that she had been sleeping and when she woke up, the boy was gone and the door was unlocked.

[...]
Child Protective Services investigated the family five years ago, said Chris Van Deusen, spokesman with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.
At that time, Julian was 3 months old and living with his father. When Salazar arrived at Soliz’s home to pick up the child, they got into an argument and started grabbing at the child, Van Deusen said. Julian received a cut.

No one was arrested in the incident, Van Deusen said. CPS found that there had been “neglectful supervision” of the child, but the case was closed because investigators believed it was a one-time thing and the parents realized their actions were wrong, he said.

The video is very telling on the parents. They seem, well, "dur", to be exact. Father refer's to his son in one article as his "second meat"...wtf??? parents just seem detached, maybe it's just me but I'm smelling shit. And a big wtf, why did the mom agree to Julian being left in his GF's care for a week? sure there can be a logical explanation for it, but I find that odd. Father just seems like he know's something.

I can't imagine a 5 yo taking off in the wee morning unless he was scared or thrown out. Better yet, I'm thinking she beat Julian and dumped him, far more likely scenario IMO. She didn't say he was abducted but when she called simply said he was missing, couldn't find him. The time delay to call is VERY suspect. Maybe the father and her are in on it and covering each other.

Poor little Julian probably just wanted to go home. :(

I for one am very interested in finding out how Julian, age 5 left a third floor apartment at 5:30 am by himself only to be found dead half a mile away. I'd like to know why if he was known to be missing why it took an hour and a half to contact the police. I don't know just what happened to this little guy but surely more information will be released soon.

You say you are are smelling shit here Silvee? So am I. A great big stinking pile of it.

I agree with Silvee and Donegaveup; total BS. Hopefully it won't cost the taxpayer too much before Nicole and Daddy fess up. I have read all the articles I could find and they only say the father had been gone for a week; gone where? I am thinking he was leaving this woman and if so why didn't he take his son with him? And after watching the video it seems like all these people can think of is raising money? Money???? That would be the LAST thing on my mind if something happened to one of my children.

So, the father has a violent history, cable IMO of committing a crime from his anger/rage issues. Also heard on the news but yet to confirm it by an article that his GF who didn't report Julian missing for almost 2 hrs, said she first went looking for him. Uh, but wait, then does that mean she left her other children alone, a 5 yo. from another marriage and a 7 mo.? LIAR. her story isn't adding up.

Deputies checked the area and were preparing to send an emergency broadcast, when at about 10:15 a.m. a person reported finding a child lying in the grass near the intersection of Wellsport Drive and Wellsport Cove. The body was confirmed to be that of the missing child.

The child was living with his father and his father's girlfriend.

The father, Leonard Soliz, was convicted in Williamson County in 2008 for assaulting his girlfriend. An affidavit shows that Soliz had tried to choke his girlfriend, Nichole Shante Turner. In 2009, he was also convicted of assaulting somebody in Travis County.

Detectives say a child found dead in Travis County is now being investigated as a homicide. Authorities believe someone who knew the boy personally was involved in his death.....NO surprise there.

The family of five-year-old Julian Soliz Salazar said a jogger found his body in tall grass in a North Austin field Saturday morning.

[...]
Julian's family told us his badly bruised body was found where a memorial now stands at the corner of Wells Port Drive and Wells Port Cove.

His relatives held a benefit on Monday in East Austin to raise money for the little boy's funeral but said he won't rest in peace until this case is closed.

[...]
“I still can't believe it,” said Julian’s Father, Leonard Soliz as he dropped his head at the benefit. “We have to find answers. Someone knows something.”

His son's mysterious death started as a missing person's report.

Julian was staying with his father's girlfriend and somehow, left her apartment on the third floor Saturday morning.

“She just woke up and he wasn't there,” said Soliz. “There's nothing else.”...uh, no, there is a lot more going on here!

“The caretaker knows more than what she's telling us,” said Julian’s grandmother, Angie Salazar about the father’s girlfriend. “And right now nobody can get in touch with her.”...I so agree with grandmother! and wtf? no one can get in touch with her?....suspicious, tho i'm assuming CPS has contact with her.

The benefit in East Austin is at Soila's Hair Salon at 903 Montopolis Drive, where Julian’s father works. Relatives told KEYE TV they've already raised at least $2,000. The benefit will continue until Wednesday.

We also found out about Julian's memorial and funeral services will be held at the Mission Funeral Home on Cesar Chavez Street on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Thursday at 11 a.m.

I'm very suspicious of the father. Julian was living with him and girlfriend, so where the heck was he for a week? not working. I'm thinking he was going to leave her, she was upset with him, Julian wanted daddy was crying a lot during that time with her. I mean wtf, leaving him with his girlfriend, that just isn't right on more than one level. I really do think GF has a lot more to say and I think dad know's more than he's saying. I would not be surprised that this turns out to be dad who killed little Julian and he and gf put this story together. Ain't adding up, not by a long shot.

I've been a reader for this site for awhile now and finally just registered. But, after reading day after day I'm astounded by the number of children being killed and abused in this country. I can honestly say I had no idea and I'm sickened. I'm not a mother, but will be someday and couldn't imagine harming a child. Yes, this story is fishy and I bet you that the g/f killed this little boy.

Possible scenario: Kid wakes up in the morning, just wants to go home and wanders out by himself. Then he wanders into the street, hit and run (explains death and bruising)...

Although I'm really not believing this one myself just because of the history of violence and length of time it took to call in the missing child.

I just don't think it's likely that a 5 yo go down 3 flights of stairs in the wee hours of the morning, dark still outside, 'course he might have done so if he was scared from being beat. Still, I think it went down differently. I think with all the bruising and abdominal injuries, he was beat, maybe the entire week he was there and then succumb to his injuries and was dumped. I hate to think it, hate, but we know how often things like this happen. IF the father was thinking of leaving her or in the process of doing so, she might have taken out her anger out on Julian. Why he was left an entire week with his gf is odd and really sad.

Also, this case is being investigated as a homicide so based on that I'm thinking investigators have ruled out that this was some accident and that he was not hit by a car. Until we know what happened for certain I hate the idea that some child killer is out there right here in my town acting innocent, and I don't see this being an accident either. Poor sweet child was covered in bruises.

Julian's mother, Jessica Salazar, and father, Leonard "Ivan" Soliz, hugged friends and wiped away tears Tuesday morning at a barbecue benefit in Southeast Austin.

They and Soliz's girlfriend Nichole Turner -- who Julian was staying with at the time of his disappearance -- are being questioned by Child Protective Services. Soliz and Salazar told deputies they had not seen the boy several days before he died.

In 2005, CPS found Soliz and Salazar neglectful in their supervision of their then 3-month-old son.

“Mom and dad got into some sort of fight. The child was in the middle ended up getting tugged back and forth and scratched,” said CPS Spokesperson Chris Van Deusen.

Van Deusen says neither were charged. Investigators did not feel the child was at further risk.

Travis County deputies say Nichole Turner is not a suspect. Nevertheless, CPS has taken custody of her 5-year-old daughter and her 7-month-old boy. Soliz is the father of the boy.

The Travis County sheriff's office is continuing to follow leads in the homicide investigation of 5-year-old Julian Salazar Soliz and says there are no named suspects in the case.

It could be weeks before an official autopsy report is released, a sheriff's spokesman said Tuesday. Meanwhile, investigators are asking for anyone with information about the boy to contact police.

"It's not unusual in these types of cases to not have an official suspect until you have ruled out all the possibilities and come to a scenario that you think happened and can prove it," spokesman Roger Wade said. "We want to make sure justice is done and we don't arrest the wrong person."

More details on father's history with the law:

On Oct. 24, 2006, Soliz was accused of grabbing Turner "around the neck with his hands" and "shoving (her) against the wall with his hand and by choking (her) with his hand," according to court documents. Soliz pleaded no contest to the charge of assault with bodily injury to a family member in the Williamson County case and was ordered to serve 10 days.

In March 2009, Soliz and his brother were accused of burglarizing the home of a relative in Manor, according to an arrest affidavit. According to the affidavit, Soliz forced his way into the home while several small children were present, grabbed the relative in a headlock and choked him. As part of a plea bargain, Soliz pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and was placed on community supervision until 2011. Soliz has to stay away from the relative's home and have "no gang affiliation," court documents said.

Soliz said of that case: "That's people saying stuff about me that's not true."

Last month, Soliz was pulled over for speeding and police discovered that he was driving without insurance and had a prohibited weapon — grip-designed knuckles — in the car, according to an arrest affidavit filed after the March 9 incident.

On March 18, the Travis County district attorney said that Soliz had violated the terms of the 2009 plea agreement and that in addition to the traffic and weapon citations, he had tested positive for marijuana late last year and for cocaine March 5.

After the kids were down for the night, I made a quick dash to join the group of people gathered tonight for Julian's Memorial service. Lots of people standing out the doorway. It wast good to see so many people attend, the community pay respects. I finally did make my way in to light a candle in said a prayer for him. Funeral services are tomorrow morning 11am.

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Hundreds of people gathered in East Austin at a prayer service Wednesday night for Julian Soliz, the 5-year-old boy who was found dead by the side of Wells Branch Parkway last Saturday.

[...]
"It's just been really sad and really stressful because he was a really nice boy and we, like, lost him," said family friend Ashley Duran. "I don't know who it was - no one knows who it could be- but I hope they find the person."

Police continue to investigate the cause of Soliz's death, even as his family buries him. Various fund-raisers, in recent days, were held to pay for the funeral expenses of the little boy, who will be buried in Austin on Thursday.

[...]
Tracing his last days, it appears Soliz's last day at Wells Branch Elementary was Wednesday. He was a recent transfer, from Austin's Perez Elementary, where other members of his family attended.

The young boy was reported missing by his family early Saturday morning. Later that day his body was found in tall grass near the Wells Branch neighborhood in North Austin. Detectives investigation Soliz's death have yet to release his cause of death, saying they are waiting on toxicology tests which could take six to eight weeks.

Wade did confirm that Soliz had not died from being hit by a vehicle.

Soliz's father, Leonard "Ivan" Soliz, said Turner had been taking care of him for about a week, and the last time he spoke with his girlfriend was Sunday evening. Salazar said she had not seen her soon in around a month.

[...]
The autopsy on the young boy is not complete, but family members said the boy had internal bleeding with no visible signs of trauma to his body.

Detectives said they have no suspects or persons of interest at this point. They do have a preliminary cause of death but are not releasing that just yet. It could be six to eight weeks before the official autopsy is complete.

So the dad says he hadn't spoke to his GF since Sunday, does that mean the Sunday before Julian was found dead on Saturday or the Sunday AFTER he was found dead?
And the mother hadn't seen her 5 yo son for a whole damn month. Now it might not be a crime, but I think both of these people are poor excuse for parents for leaving Julian with his GF. He had just switched schools, the stress on that alone for a kinder kiddo's would have been tough. I just don't care what the reasoning is that's shitty parenting. Poor Julian, must have felt forgotten.

I bet the GF wasn't all too thrilled taking care of his two kids and her own daughter on her own with out his help that week, yeah I think she was pissed alright. And why wasn't Julian at school Thursday and Friday? I sure would like to hear the girlfriend's explanation for that.

Hundreds pack funeral for slain child
Father and girlfriend could lose other children

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Hundreds packed into a funeral Thursday afternoon for a 5-year-old little boy who police said was killed by someone he knew, though police said they still don't know who his killer is.
Now, Child Protective Services has filed a petition which could yank the parental rights away from the unmarried couple who had custody of Julian Soliz. They have two children. While more is being revealed about what was going out behind the scenes in Julian's family life there are still many unanswered questions.
"We're just waiting to find out who did it or why it happened," said Destiny Salazar, Julian's cousin.
[...]
"I don't know, I don't know what is going on the dad's part on the girlfriend's part," said Jessica Salazar, Julian's mother. "I don't have any answers yet I do hope to get answers pretty soon."
[...]
Soliz and Turner could lose parental rights of their two surviving children and are being investigated.

However, both Soliz and Salazar had previously been charged by CPS with neglecting Julian.
[...]
Five days into the investigation police have made no arrests but have questioned both of his parents and his father's girlfriend.
Family members have seen an outpouring of support which was obvious at the service and burial.
Hundreds of friends and family members attended the funeral to pay their respects for the little boy whose life who was taken so abruptly.
So many people arrived at the funeral home Thursday, many spilled from the doors out into the front lawn. Many wore special T-shirts made with Julian's photo and name.
[...]
He was always happy and energetic, always running around and making people laugh, and loved meeting new people," said Ashley Salazar.

Austin police want to hear from anyone who came in contact with Julian in the last two weeks.

The parents of 5-year-old Julian Soliz, Leonard 'Ivan' Soliz and Jessica Salazar

A state agency has initiated court proceedings in Travis County to decide who will have custody of two children from the home of a 5-year-old boy found dead Saturday.

The first hearing is slated for Monday in the custody case involving a 6-month-old boy and 5-year-old girl, both of whom were taken by Child Protective Services officials from the North Austin apartment where Julian Salazar Soliz had been staying.

A petition filed in Travis County court Monday could lead to termination of the parental rights of Julian's father, Leonard "Ivan" Soliz, 21, and his girlfriend, Nichole Turner, 22, for the two children. Soliz and Turner are the parents of the infant; the 5-year-old is from a previous relationship of Turner's.

The state agency is also investigating the conditions in the children's home, a spokesman said Wednesday.
[...]

Travis County sheriff's office entered the fifth day of its homicide investigation. Deputies have not released official details on how the boy died. His father said the boy was found to have suffered internal injuries.

"We want anybody who had seen Julian in the past two weeks to let us know what he appeared like, what his demeanor was and who he was with," sheriff's office spokesman Roger Wade said.
[...]

On behalf of the Department of Family and Protective Services, Travis County Assistant District Attorney Anna Lee McNelis filed the court petition in the custody case involving the other children in the home.

"Family violence has occurred and is likely to occur in the future," the document reads. "Petitioner reasonably fears that there is a clear and present danger of family violence."

In 2006, Soliz, then 18, was accused of grabbing Turner, then 19, by the neck and choking her, according to Williamson County court documents. Soliz pleaded no contest to assault with bodily injury against a family member.

Turner and Soliz "knowingly placed or knowingly allowed the children to remain in conditions or surroundings which endanger the physical or emotional well-being of the children," Monday's court filing read.

Van Deusen said the children could be returned to their parents, but that depends on the outcome of the investigations into the welfare of the children and into Julian's death.

Good video here (http://www.redlasso.com/ClipPlayer.aspx?id=1982ad19-320e-42b6-9e07-bba33b975071)from the memorial day. LaTasha Taylor, a friend of the family, and prior baby sitter to Julian mentions how she told both the mother and father to check on little Julian during the week he was staying with his gf. I was so glad to hear her thoughts as I am furious he was left there for an entire week and not seen by his father and his mother had not seen him for an entire MONTH! Ms. Taylor goes on to say the person will be found soon. I don't know but seems to me she feels one of them or both had something to do with Julian's death. She doesn't say that but the feeling is conveyed.

As mentioned I attended the memorial but opted not to attend the funeral. In this video Jessica Salazar, Julian's mother speaks briefly and Julian's aunt says a few words too.

Dated video from the funeral day.

As the police have said someone close to Julian likely killed him, not that that's a revelation, but seriously thought they'd find some type of evidence to connect the perp. to his murder. Not one person who was closest to Julian; Soliz, Salazar and Turner, IMO, seem bright enough to cover up a murder. . I'm just so frustrated seems like this is dragging on. I also do think someone else in the family know's something that could turn this case around. I do not want to see this case turn cold.

The father of a 5-year-old boy found dead this month was arrested Tuesday after violating the terms of a plea agreement tied to a 2009 assault charge, according to jail records.

Leonard "Ivan" Soliz, 21, was booked Tuesday afternoon, according to Travis County Jail records.

"The defendant has violated the terms and conditions of the supervision," reads a March 18 court filing made by the office of Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg to revoke Soliz's probation.
[...]

Soliz has a criminal history that includes a 2006 assault charge in which he was accused of choking Turner when he was 18 and she was 19.

In March 2009, Soliz and his brother were accused of burglarizing the home of a relative in Manor, according to an arrest affidavit.

Soliz forced his way into the home while several small children were present, grabbed the relative in a headlock and choked him. As part of a plea bargain, Soliz pleaded to a lesser charge of Class A misdemeanor assault and was placed on community supervision until 2011.

Travis County sheriff's office spokesman Roger Wade said Soliz was arrested Tuesday for violating probation from an assault charge.

The March 18 filing said Soliz's probation should be revoked because he had tested positive for marijuana on Oct. 1 and cocaine on March 5. He also owed $700 in court-related fees and had not completed 30 hours of community service. Also, Soliz was pulled over for speeding last month and was found to be driving without a license and in possession of a prohibited weapon: metal, grip-design knuckles.

I guess he thinks he's special and rules don't apply to him. Obviously he carried that over into his attitude about caring for his child, too.

It tears at your heart to see where little Julian's lifeless body was found. A little 5 year old!!!! My youngest is 5, and I can tell you that they are somewhat babies still. They love being cuddled, tickled, and sung too. My little one stills likes to be sung to sleep. Poor Julian never had a loving momma that would do that for him. His dad in and out of jail, not worth much more.
Rest in peace, sweet, sweet boy. Harm will NEVER come your way again:dong:

"I want the individual who did this to my grandbaby to be found," said Leonard Smith, Julian's granfather, while he tried to choke back tears.I want to know who.
Nothing yet on the autopsy.

“Little Julian was a very loving and gifted student,” she said. “I remember one day when he looked at me and said, ‘Teacher do you know that I’m the best person in the whole world?’ Julian loved to dance and sing and would show off his spins to anyone who would take a minute to watch. He was a very happy child…always smiling.”
I was thinking on you little Julian just the other day as I watched my son of 6 yrs. play with his classmates having fun on his first field day. There are a lot of firsts you won't every see. That simply breaks my heart. I want justice for you little one tho that cannot put things right as your life stolen can never be given back to you. You were the best person in the world...I, oh, my...I hope the people closest to you know what they've lost. Heaven's light Julian...always.

I'm very disappointed that this case seems to come to a standstill. I'm wondering why an arrest has not been made yet, waiting on tox/autopsy reports? seems such a long time 6-8 wks to wait since his death for results. It's just over 5 weeks now.....still waiting.

The father of a 5-year-old boy found dead in April was sentenced to one year in jail today for violating his probation tied to a 2009 assault charge.

Leonard “Ivan” Soliz, 21 , had been in custody since April 20, court records show.

Soliz’s lawyer said his client will receive credit for time already served, about two months. [...]

[...]

Julian’s death is being investigated as a homicide, officials said. No suspects have been named.

Seven weeks have passed since 5-year-old Julian Salazar Soliz was found dead, his body abandoned in front of a North Austin home.

Little is known about the investigation into who killed the energetic little boy who liked to sing to his teachers. No suspects have been named. It's unclear how Julian died, and sheriff's investigators have told the county medical examiner's office not to publicly release the preliminary autopsy findings. Any developments in the case are being tightly held.

It has proved to be one of the most demanding homicide investigations for the Travis County sheriff's office this year, spokesman Roger Wade said.

"There are cases where there are smoking guns and confessions, but those are more rare," he said. "More often, you have to work a case the old-fashioned way."
[...]

For now, Wade said, key details in the case, including any autopsy findings, are not being released to avoid putting out information that "aids and assists the perpetrator of the case." However, Wade emphasized that the investigation has become a priority: a detective has been assigned full time, and additional resources, including deputies who were on light duty, have been drawn in to assist.

They have been combing through tips, witness interviews and surveillance videos close to the Wells Branch neighborhood where Julian was found, Wade said.

One detail about the investigation remains clear: Julian was not killed by a stranger.

"This is not a case where a stranger abducted Julian and did something to him," Wade said, without elaborating on the evidence.

The case has triggered scrutiny for those closest to Julian, including the caretaker who reported him missing, the boy's father and his mother.

Since Julian's death, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services has initiated investigations into all three individuals: the caretaker, Nichole Turner, 22 ; the boy's father, Leonard "Ivan" Soliz, 21 ; and his mother, Jessica Salazar, 23. In April, the agency began legal efforts to terminate the parental rights of Turner and Soliz for two other children, placing an infant boy and a 5-year-old girl who had lived with Julian in state custody. Another hearing on the case is scheduled Monday .

The state has allowed Salazar to retain custody of her two children from other relationships. This month , the agency initiated a "family-based safety services" case in a Travis County court, requiring Salazar to attend parenting classes and submit to supervised home visits.

Salazar has said she had not seen Julian for a month before he was found dead. In an interview last week , Salazar said Julian's father had wanted to spend more time with the boy early last year and began taking him on extended visits that grew to full-time custody by the end of the year.

Salazar said she didn't get him back because she feared an altercation with Soliz; she said she often argued with him over his parenting style. Child Protective Services officials talked to both parents in 2005 after an altercation between the two left a scratch on Julian, who was an infant, according to the Department of Family and Protective Services.

Salazar said she never surrendered legal control of Julian but wasn't able to find legal aid assistance to get him back.
[...]

Wade said the lack of public updates doesn't mean the case has gone cold.

"We are still working Julian's case as if it happened yesterday," he said. "There is a lot of information in this case that if we put it out, it would interfere with the integrity of the case."

Salazar is holding on to hope that her son's killer will soon be found.

"I am trying to be strong for my other kids," she said. But Julian "is missed and loved to this day. I pray to God they find whoever did this, so he can rest in peace, I can rest in peace and his family can rest in peace."

On that note it makes me soooo sad as I see my boys enjoying life and little Julian gets nothing more. I want so badly to see the fucker who did this to him caught, exposed and severe punishment brought down on them. The flames of hell are waiting.....

It's not clear whether Soliz and Turner lived together. Attorney Leonard Martinez described Soliz and Turner as having an "on-again, off-again" relationship over the years.

They had their troubles together: In 2006, an arrest affidavit issued by the Williamson County sheriff's office accused Soliz of grabbing Turner and choking her. Soliz pleaded no contest to an assault charge and was sentenced to 10 days in jail.

That wasn't the end of Soliz's criminal troubles, however. Last week, State District Judge Bob Perkins sentenced Soliz to one year in jail for violating his probation in an unrelated 2009 assault case.

Despite Soliz's criminal history, he could never hurt his son, Martinez said.

"There is no reason to even suspect that he would have had even motive or opportunity or any reason whatsoever to do something to that child," Martinez said. "There is no indication that he has ever been abusive or harmful when he's had contact with that child."

Turner has not commented on the case. Calls and visits seeking comment at her parent's home in far eastern Travis County, where neighbors say she had stayed in the days after Julian's death, were declined.

Neighbors describe Turner as a sweet girl who became a mother at a young age. Neighbors expressed shock that Turner was connected to Julian's case.

"She's a good girl, real sweet," said Demetrius Pack, 30, a stay-at-home dad who lives two doors down from Turner's place.

Key players in this case. He's prone to violence. She's a sweet girl. It will be very interesting to see what unfolds as truth.

I bet though if it was her man who disappeared from the apartment at 5:30am and she had no idea where he was that she would have been freaking flipping out with panic.

Instead she causally waits around a hour and half.
What was her explanation? did she say she thought maybe he had some errands to run in the morning and he's probably be back briefly?
How in the hell did she explain that crap and seem sincere?

This is one guilty person if there ever was one.

just as in the Haleigh case, all the twists and turns of the relationships between the adults and children, the other criminal activities of the adults and the obfuscation they've engaged in (taking their time reporting the missing child, etc) has been very effective in hindering this investigation. so frustrating to watch helplessly

A Travis County judge on Monday refused to allow a woman who cared for a boy found dead this year to have visitation with her 5-year-old daughter, calling the statements the girl made during private interviews "horrific."

State District Judge Darlene Byrne alluded to the comments as she unleashed harsh words onto the child's mother, Nichole Turner, during a court hearing Monday.

Byrne ordered that the girl and her 9-month-old brother remain in state custody.

If the statements the girl made are true, "then you scare me greatly," Byrne told Turner in open court.

"You may be getting arrested; you may be convicted; maybe it won't happen," Byrne said. "This is one of the worst cases I have ever seen. And I have seen hundreds."

Byrne and other officials tied to the case declined to elaborate on the comments, raising new questions about what might have happened in the Estates at Shoreline apartments where Turner, 22, cared for her two children and Julian Salazar Soliz, the 5-year-old boy found dead in April.
[...]

Turner, however, won an additional hour of supervised visitation with her infant son, allowing her to see him for two hours a week.
[...]

Monday's hearing shed some light in a case that has been tightly held, as developments in the investigation and autopsy findings are being withheld from the public. Officials have said they don't want to release information that could aide the perpetrator, who they say was not a stranger to Julian.

Julian also was reported to have missed the two days of school before he was found dead, according to officials at Wells Branch Elementary.
[...]

Child advocacy specialists for CASA of Travis County, the court-appointed special advocates for children, said the older child, who is Turner's from a previous relationship, was struggling recently. Turner's attorney, Kyle Collins, said the girl has been "stoic" for three days and was not talking to anyone.

Collins argued that the children should be returned to their mother.

"I am not returning these children to your client until we have your client ... (testify on the witness stand and) swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth," Byrne told Collins. "You are testing my patience."

Here i am in the a.m so I could post this, lol, you are fast DV.

Based on the statements of Turner’s daughter, Judge Byrne (http://news8austin.com/content/top_stories/271618/judge--julian-soliz-case-the-worst-she-s-ever-seen) said out of the hundreds of cases she's seen in her career, this is by far the worst. The young girl allegedly observed horrific events and made traumatic statements.

The judge decided Turner's two children will remain in CPS custody.

She is allowed two hours a week supervised visitation with her 9-month-old son but not with her daughter.

I have been waiting to hear what her 5 yo had to say on that evening. NOW I hope to see an arrest soon. I think we all know Turner being the last person with Julian IS the most likely suspect. I feel so bad for her daughter I hope she is getting some help as it does appear she is traumatized.

Child advocacy specialists for CASA of Travis County, the court-appointed special advocates for children, said the older child, who is Turner's from a previous relationship, was struggling recently. Turner's attorney, Kyle Collins, said the girl has been "stoic" for three days and was not talking to anyone.

So she can't see her daughter but its OK to see her son? makes lot of sense. I'm sure the reasoning has more to do with what the daughter witnessed, still sounds ass-backwards to me.

Turner sure isn't appearing "good" or "sweet" now is she.

WOO HOO!
Nichole Turner, 22, was booked into the Travis County Jail this afternoon on a charge of injury to a child. Her bail was set at $100,000.

Julian Salazar Soliz, 5, had been reported missing April 10 from the Estates at Shoreline apartment where he had been staying. He was found dead nearly two miles away.
[...]

Julian’s mother, Jessica Salazar, posted an elated, but angry message on her MySpace page about Turner on Friday afternoon moments after an arrest warrant was issued.

“Oh my God, finally justice for my baby boy,” Salazar said. “That (expletive) is going to get what she deserves.”

According to a court affidavit, Turner admitted to beating Julian with a belt and that the belt could have struck Julian on the head and could have struck him in the stomach. The medical examiner observed 59 bruises on Julian's body, bleeding on his brain and determined the child died from blunt force trauma to the abdomen.

"She gave us a door to go through when she said she's the only one who had access to Julian during the time when these injuries took place," said Roger Wade, a spokesman for the Travis County Sheriff's Office.

In the affidavit, Turner told detectives she realized that she had lost control.
[...]

Investigators say at this time they did not have to charge Turner with murder so they went with injury to a child. Like murder, injury to a child is a first degree felony and can carry the same penalty as murder if those injuries lead to death.http://www.kvue.com/news/The-woman-who-killed-a-5-year-old-boy-is-arrested-97712854.html

Ten minutes after Turner learned police were pressing charges, she turned herself in.

Authorities said they believe the injuries she inflicted led to Julian's death.

"The last thing we want to do is present something that we can't prove,” Roger Wade with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office said. “And we were trying to get murder charges out of this, but we just couldn't prove murder charges. We can prove injury to a child and that's why we filed it."

Police said they intend to charge Turner with murder if they gather a strong enough case.http://www.news8austin.com/content/headlines/272225/nichole-turner-charged-in-death-of-julian-soliz

The medical examiner observed 59 bruises on Julian's body, bleeding on his brain and determined the child died from blunt force trauma to the abdomen.

"It shocks me really that that was going on upstairs," said Jermaine Igioze, who lives in the same North Travis County apartment complex where Julian Soliz lived.
In fact, Igioze lives in the apartment directly below Turner's. He said he and his two roommates will never forget the sound they heard that night.

"I've lived in an apartment before and I understand noise from people living upstairs, but it was so unusual we all had to talk about it. It was very, very loud. It was like furniture just falling and bang, enough for everyone to just stop," said Igioze.

Didn't family say after prelim autopsy there were no visible signs of trauma? could be remembering that wrong.
"The autopsy on the young boy is not complete, but family members said the boy had internal bleeding with no visible signs of trauma to his body.".....Perhaps to get a reaction by the family and make some judgments on that. AND I do question why Julian was ever left at her home for so long, he was not her responsibility, I bet that pissed her off. That decision was a big, big fail on the parents part, IMO. Julian was just starting school had already relocated once, he was having a hard time then gets stuck living with this heartless bitch. Poor Julian probably felt abandoned.

Anyhow, I do hope the case is built stronger to prove murder. I mean beating him with a belt, 59 bruises and bleeding in the brain, she wasn't hitting him to discipline him, seems she was bent on killing him.

So sorry little Julian!!

Here are some of the points made in the arrest affidavit:

*Nichole also described “whooping” Julian on Tuesday (April 6) for lying. She later said this occurred on Wednesday (April 7). She described how she hit Julian with a black leather belt because he had told a lie. Nichole described that as she was doing this, she had a hold of Julian’s hand and he was moving around while she was hitting him with the belt. Nichole said she hit Julian on his buttocks with the belt 3 or 4 times. Then when Julian’s pants were down, she hit him with her hand on his buttocks.

*Nichole was also interviewed by Child Protective Services Investigator Michael Bradburn and she advised Bradburn on Tuesday, April 6 she whipped Julian with a belt 3 or 4 times. He was moving around so she had to switch to her hand and pull his pants down and spanked him 3 or 4 times on the buttocks. As Nichole was doing this, Julian fell to the ground and Nichole had a hold of him by his wrist. Julian continued moving about and she continued holding him by the wrist as she was swinging the belt. Nichole admitted that the belt could have struck Julian on the head and could have struck him in the stomach. Nichole said she realized that she had lost control.

Soliz's autopsy concluded he had died from blunt force trauma to his abdomen. This injury could not be attributed to a car accident or a fall, police said. The medical examiner counted at least 59 bruises on the boy's body. Scarring to a wound on his head indicated the injuries happened days prior to his death.

[...]
Julian's biological mother, Jessica Salazar said she was in tears most of the day after a Travis County detective told her Turner was going to be arrested. Salazar said she and her family were not surprised by the suspect, but could not bear to hear the detailed account of abuse.

"The pain is always going to be there," said Salazar as tears rolled down her cheek. She put her head in her hands and said, "It's always going to be in the back of my mind. I will never forgive her. She took something away from me I can never get back."

The charge faced by Turner is a first-degree felony and carries a sentence of five years to life in prisons.

After the initial shock wears off, I hope mother visits her in prison and strangles the heartless, bitch.
They'll let it slide given the circumstances.

Rest in peace little Julian.

AUSTIN (KXAN) (http://www.kxan.com/dpp/news/crime/hearing-for-woman-linked-to-boys-death) - A woman linked to the beating death of a 5-year-old North Austin boy has a court appearance this week.
Julian Soliz was an energetic and outgoing child. His grandfahter, Ivan Goree, said the boy was loved by many and his life should not have come to such a violent end. "Everybody spoiled that boy," said Goree. "But I didn't mind because that was my grandson."

[...]
Goree raised Julian's father Leonard from the time he was 5 years old and said Julian and Leonard lived with him off and on throughout the child's short life. The two moved out for the final time just a few months ago.
"He decided that he wanted to move- that he wanted to try his wings - I tried to convince him to keep the baby here but I know what a father goes through," said Goree. "Julian always had a home here- there was not one day that his father did not know that he could bring him here.Hardly spoiled. Poor Julian was shuffled around a lot and had not been seen by his father since a week before he was killed and an entire month had gone by the last time seen by his mother. Julian should have been with his grandpa instead of living with this bitch who likely resented caring for Julian. Wonder if Julian's dad was planning on leaving her? I thought I read that somewhere. IF that is the case, even a bigger WTF? why Julian was left there with her.

The last month alive Julian must have felt confused and forgotten. I just keep coming back to this and thinking how Julian should be alive and well had he ONLY been put first. Of course there's the matter of Julian being beat to death. If this woman wasn't capable of killing a helpless young child, the story would still be a sad one, and one we wouldn't know about, but he'd be alive having finished kinder going on to 1st grade just like my boy. Breaks my heart.

Girlfriend indicted in childs death (http://www.kxan.com/dpp/news/crime/Girlfriend-indicted-in-child-death)

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Nichole Turner, 22, was indicted Monday in the beating death of 5-year-old Julian Soliz. Turner is the girlfriend of Ivan Soliz, the boy's father.

A Travis County Grand Jury indicted turner for causing serious bodily injury to a child with a blunt object.

On April 10, A passerby found the child's body in tall grass near a sidewalk and homes in the Wells Branch neighborhood of North Travis County.

At the time, Julian was under the care of Turner, his father's girlfriend. She reported the boy missing just a few hours before his body was found.
[...]On the VIDEO (http://www.kxan.com/dpp/news/crime/Girlfriend-indicted-in-child-death), the ADA explains that the murder charge is what they wanted but the DA decided the bodily injury charge would be far easier to prove. Both carry the same, 5 years to life.

The school little Julian was attending kinder before being pulled out, is very, very close to me. As I drive by it I pause and think of little Julian how he too, like my son would have just started first grade this year. My heart simply breaks for him as do many here in town. IF he simply been priority by those closest to him things might have been different. IF this bitch had not let her frustrations out on a innocent child, Julian would be alive and well today. Not one IF can be undone, that leaves a deep ache in my heart for you for you little Julian.

I hope the one who stole your life never see's the light of day again.

that is so funny you said that! I wondered if the Girlfriend talked to Misty Crosslin to get the do's and don'ts on telling the police "I just woke up and the child was gone!".

I bet the child was beaten too badly to go to school Thursday and Friday and he tried to escape his tormenter Saturday morning, got about a mile down the road before he bled to death.
I am also wondering with all the tatoos (I'm not tatoo bashing I have several) if the father is gang affiliated - the police did mention it. He may have been out of town doing some drug business or something - but I still can't believe he didn't call once during that week to check on his son.
Last point, the father was interested in fund raisers when he found out his son was dead, maybe he wanted to pay his court costs he knew he owed.
P.S. What the hell is calling your child your "second Meat?" - what does that even mean? I'm old is that some sort of new slang that I'm not privi to yet?:mad22:

This is exactly what was running through my mind while reading most of this thread. Her myspace says how much she'll miss her son and loves her son etc etc, yet she left him with this person for a whole MONTH without seeing him? What the hell could have been so time-consuming, all-encompassing, that you not know what's up with your kid for a month??? I can't even go a DAY without seeing my kid, and she's FOURTEEN!!

Ugh... I just don't get some parents/people. Never will.

Prosecutors focus on cell records in child death case (http://www.statesman.com/news/local/prosecutors-focus-on-cell-records-in-child-death-2298240.html)

Prosecutors used cellphone records Wednesday to paint Nichole Turner as a woman dealing with relationship and money problems in the days before 5-year-old Julian Soliz was found dead in a northern Travis County yard.Sheriff's Detective Paul Salo testified that Turner called Julian's father, Leonard Soliz, more than 100 times in less than a week. Most of the calls lasted less than 30 seconds, he said.About that same time, Turner also called the answering machine of a church that provides assistance with bills 44 times in a day.Turner, 24, is accused of beating Julian so badly in April 2010 that he died of internal bleeding. She is charged with injury to a child and could face life in prison if convicted.Turner had been Julian's sole caregiver for more than a month at the time of the child's death. Leonard Soliz had not been home since early March, but Turner continued to care for the child, allowing him to live in her Shoreline Drive apartment with her and her two other children.

[...]

Salo said that when he told Turner that Julian had been found, she asked where and then began to cry when he said that Julian was dead. She later told him that she had hit the boy multiple times with a belt earlier in the week and that he had not been to school for two days because he was vomiting and had diarrhea, according to the testimony."She said she didn't take him to the doctor because he didn't have Medicaid," Salo said.

[...]
Prosecutors have not told jurors that they believe Turner was the one who put Julian's body in the tall grass of an unkempt yard in the Wells Branch area. On Wednesday, however, they noted that pollen found in the driver's seat of Turner's car was similar to that found on Julian's body.Turner's lawyer, Kyle Collins, said everyone gets pollen in their car. He countered that there is no evidence that Turner dumped Julian's body where it was found. Surveillance video at Turner's apartment shows that her car did not leave the parking lot until about 6:30 a.m., the time Turner said she drove around looking for Julian, Salo said.Salo also said that DNA testing on a hair found on Julian's body could not be conclusively linked to Turner. Turner also was not seen on any of the surveillance cameras he reviewed in the area, he said. "You did not see her driving around, trying to dispose of a body, did you?" Collins asked. Salo said he had not.

Trial underway for woman charged in death of five-year-old (http://www.kvue.com/news/Trial-underway-for-woman-charged-in-death-of-five-year-old-146671535.html)

AUSTIN -- The trial is now underway for an Austin woman accused of killing a five-year-old boy.In their opening statement, prosecutors painted a dark picture of Nichole Turner as someone who knowingly abused five-year-old Julian Soliz, and ultimately beat him to death.
Tearful relatives of Julian Soliz filled Judge Jim Coronado's courtroom Monday afternoon. Turner, sitting next to her attorney, never turned to look at them.
Turner pleaded not guilty to injury to a child charges, a first degree felony.
Prosecutors say Turner admits to beating the child with her hand and a belt just days before his body was found. There were more than 50 bruises on the little boy's body.
The prosecution says graphic photos from the medical examiner's office will show the five-year-old was beaten to death. They'll also have evidence of prior beatings, including a broken collarbone.

Monday afternoon the jury heard an emotional 911 call from the woman who found little Julian's body. Many in the room gasped as they were shown a picture of his body lying in the grass.
Turner says the morning Julian disappeared, she noticed he was not in his bed when she woke up, and the door was unlocked. She says she searched for him and called family and friends before calling police.

Julian Soliz was fun, happy, father testifies (http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/courts/entries/2012/04/12/julian_solis_fun_sweet_father.html)

Julian Soliz was a happy 5-year-old and everyone loved him, the boy’s father testified in Travis County District Court on Thursday morning.“He liked to dance, sing and play, just like any other kid would,” Leonard Soliz said. (yeah he was good kid, sweet kid but you still put him last).

Soliz, 23, was the first witness on the fourth day of the trial of Nichole Turner. Turner, 24, is accused of beating Julian so badly in April 2010 that he died of internal bleeding. She is charged with injury to a child and could face life in prison if convicted.
Turner, who had dated Leonard Soliz for several years, was Julian’s sole caregiver at the time of his death. Soliz had not lived there for more than a month and had seen his son two or three times during that period, he said.

During her examination, prosecutor Victoria Winkeler bluntly asked the questions that the jury might have been asking themselves throughout the trial:
Where were you all this time? Why did you just leave your son with a woman you obviously didn’t want to be with?

Soliz said he had been living with a new girlfriend and was avoiding Turner. He didn’t answer most of her calls. When he did speak to her, he lied and said he was staying with his parents because he didn’t want any conflict, he testified.

He left Julian with Turner because she loved him and he felt the boy was safe with her. Soliz said he never saw Turner hit Julian and did not know if she was capable of seriously beating his son.
“She fed him, she clothed him, she took him to school every.

This case is local to me and there is a good mix of division on sides to what happen. Many feel the parents need to step the fuck back from the camera's playing the totally innocent, grief stricken parents. So basically Turner, his ex was caring for Julian, HIS son doing the job as a parent. Yet he finds nothing odd with that and say's he felt his son was safe with her even though it was apparent Turner was getting ever more so agitated and angry over being left to care for HIS son although not together any more.

He was too busy chasing new conquests instead of being a father and the mother IMO was not much better as she hadn't seen Julian either for over a month. Although it does not mitigate Turner from what she did but there is some blame to go around here that contributed to where Julian ended up--dead.
I'm undecided if Turner moved Julian's body herself as video does not show her doing so but IF instead Julian left the apt. unnoticed, as he was distraught left to look for his father--but how did he manage that? and what about the DNA hair on him that is inconclusive to be that of Turner's?

Bottom line Tuner did not want to be stuck with his kid any more caring for him and appeared to be struggling financially so instead of choosing to drop of Julian at his or mother's location (not sure IF she knew where that might be maybe or the 100 calls included trying to figure that out and went unreturned), NO, instead she let out her frustrations on Julian. 5yo kid who had nothing to do with the adult bullshit.
I believe it will be shown that she beat Julian not only on that day but probably during the entire time she had him in her care.
Gets me so angry that clearly Julian was ill this is why he was no longer at school days before he was found dead---she probably was calling loser, pathetic father on this too but again, no returned calls. Turner says she did not take Julian for lack of insurance. A kid is that ill and any decent person would find a way to get him help but she did not of course 'cause it would be all to obvious that Julian had been beat.
Julian got the shit, got ignored, forgotten, got dead because he wasn't deemed important enough by all those in contact with him. Not a one gave a shit.

What the living f***! You b**tard! He's your son, not hers. Why the hell would you leave him with a woman you are scorning, avoiding her calls and ignoring your son's welfare? You had other people willing to take him, people whom you were not cheating or scamming, people who would have no reason to take your crap out on him. You deserve to be in prison right beside Turner.

I have never read the details on Julian's last days, nor what lead up to his death. I like to keep it that way for my own sanity. But Michelle Turner I will address the cunt that you are. I like knowing she is very young in age so she may live longer locked up like an animal.

No child should have to endure such a beatings. I hate hearing or reading when an adult picks up an object to "discipline" a child. Barbaric is what that is to me..

I feel that this father should be charged with something too. He effectively abandonded his child and left him in the care of a woman who would be very angry with him.

I am not diminishing her role in this child's death, but the father has had no regard or care for anyone but himself.

A Travis County jury Friday night found Nichole Turner guilty of injury to a child in the death of 5-year-old Julian Soliz, who had been in her care in April 2010.

The jury deliberated for about 90 minutes before returning the verdict shortly after 8 p.m. Wearing a black, hooded Old Navy sweatshirt, Turner, 24, put her head on the defense table as the jury was polled. She wept as sheriff's deputies led her away in handcuffs.

District Judge Jim Coronado admonished about 35 observers against any outbursts when the verdict in the intensely emotional trial was read — the third such warning of the day. About a dozen sheriff's deputies stood guard in the courtroom. More deputies stood outside the building, and the crowd was allowed to leave only in groups.

The jury will reconvene Monday morning to consider sentencing. Turner could face life in prison.
[...]

Turner, taking the stand in her own defense, said she made the children chicken strips and macaroni the night before Soliz was found dead.

She said her daughter tried to wake her about 1 a.m., but she told the girl to go back to sleep. Turner said Julian was missing from his room when she woke at 5 a.m.

Prosecutor Victoria Winkeler aggressively went after what she said were inconsistencies in Turner's story and claims that conflicted with testimony from other witnesses.

Turner remained composed throughout a vigorous cross-examination, including Winkeler using cellphone records to dispute Turner's location when she called 911.

"So the longitude and latitude of the Travis County 911 system is also out to get you," Winkeler said. "Is there anything else new today you'd like to add, Miss Turner?"

Sheriff's Detective Ramon Lopez testified Friday that he saw an interview with Turner's daughter, who is not being identified at the request of Coronado, during which the girl spoke of her mother giving a "whupping" to Soliz, striking his head, buttocks, abdomen and legs.

Forensic examiners earlier testified that Soliz bled to death from 59 or more separate bruises. Two full cups of blood were found in his abdomen, they said.

Prosecutors theorized Turner found the boy dead and dumped his body.

Collins questioned how she could have moved the body from her apartment to her car without that event being caught on surveillance video at the complex.

Turner had been in a relationship with the boy's father that soured, although she remained the boy's caregiver.

Prosecutors painted Turner as a spurned woman who took her frustration out on the boy, who looked like his father.

Collins described Leonard Soliz as a negligent father who was in and out of jail, and he contrasted his behavior with the woman who was essentially the boy's sole caregiver for the last month of his life.

"Nichole cared about Julian," Collins said. "Nichole's family cared about Julian."

Me too....me too. My first thought was the size of a liquid measuring cup, that is a massive amount of blood. There was no way he could have survived without medical help. I'm thinking she used more then a belt to "whup" on him. Her poor kids witnessed her beat this child to death. It's really really sad all the way around.

Jurors weep at sight of 5-year-old boy's autopsy photos (http://www.statesman.com/news/local/jurors-weep-at-sight-of-5-year-old-2301048.html)

Jurors wept Thursday as they stared at pictures of the body of 5-year-old Julian Soliz covered head to toe in bruises. They wiped their eyes. They shook their heads and covered their mouths. They looked at Nichole Turner, who was resting her head on the defense table and averting her eyes from the autopsy photos displayed on a large TV screen."He died as a result of blunt force injuries," said Dr. David Dolinak, chief medical examiner with the Travis County medical examiners office. "The manner of death was homicide."

[...]

On Thursday evening, the prosecution began wrapping up its case by presenting the autopsy photos of Julian. Before the jury came in, however, prosecutor Victoria Winkeler warned Julian's family members that the photos would be graphic and painful to see. District Judge Jim Coronado said anyone who made a scene in the courtroom would be removed by the bailiff or one of the four sheriff's deputies present."I will not permit outbursts or inappropriate behavior," he said.Photos showed that Julian, a kindergartner at Wells Branch Elementary, had been badly beaten before his death. Almost 60 bruises covered his body, particularly around the buttocks and thighs. Large blocks of his skin were nothing but purple. The boy had tears in his intestines, bleeding in his brain and blood in his abdomen.

[...]

Soliz said Turner said the child had gotten into a fight at school.Kelly Ann Coad, Julian's gym teacher, testified that Turner told her Julian had been hurt in a fight at his apartment complex. But Julian, who had always been a loving and eager child, changed after that, Coad said. He went from a boy who always participated in gym to one who was clingy and sat out of games."He never played again," Coad said.
And Julian will never play again.

This case and the wait is getting to me more and more as I read it. Julian's last month was a total nightmare. No parent to help transition with school, no parent to care and tuck him into bed at night, not a one who cared enough.

Turner gets 35 years for death of 5-year-old boy (http://www.statesman.com/news/local/turner-gets-35-years-for-death-of-5-2308941.html)

Nichole Turner stood silently before District Judge Jim Coronado on Monday afternoon, head down, shoulders slumped, waiting for him to officially sentence her to prison for her role in the death of 5-year-old Julian Soliz."Is there any reason you should not be sentenced?" he asked."No," a seemingly dazed Turner answered in a barely audible voice.

Coronado then delivered the sentence decided by the jury after 2 1/2 hours of deliberation: 35 years.

For a few moments, the courtroom remained absolutely still. Then Julian's family walked into the hallway, crying and hugging as television cameras surrounded them."It doesn't bring him back," Julian's mother, Jessica Salazar, told reporters. "I'm always going to have that in me: missing him and wishing he were here."

After a week of testimony, Turner was convicted Friday of injury to a child. The six-man, six woman Travis County jury had believed prosecutors' version of the events leading to Julian's April 2010 death: that Turner had beaten the kindergartner with her hands and a belt, that the boy died from internal injuries from that beating and that she later dumped him in the tall grass of a Wells Branch-area yard.Jurors had the option to sentence Turner to as little as probation or as much as life in prison.

[...]

Throughout the trial, prosecutors portrayed Turner as a desperate woman who was struggling to pay the bills and who took her frustrations out on Julian."That's what it all boils down to," prosecutor Victoria Winkeler told jurors.
Monday during the sentencing phase of the trial.Prosecutors said that Turner was behind the black eye and broken collarbone Julian suffered in March 2010.Turner also admitted to detectives that she beat Julian with a belt and her hands in the days preceding the child's death, according to testimony.Throughout the trial, defense attorney Kyle Collins pointed out multiple facts that he argued conflicted with the prosecution's case. A hair found on Julian's body could not conclusively be matched to Turner. Surveillance video showed that Turner's car had not moved the night Julian disappeared and only left the apartment complex at the time she says she was looking for him. Additionally, Turner's 7-year-old daughter told jurors that she saw two people carry Julian off the night he disappeared.Prosecutors say Turner wasn't looking for Julian — she was dumping his body. And Turner's daughter, who was 5 at the time of the incident, has told multiple stories about that night, Winkeler said.

. . .Before sentencing, defense witnesses speaking on Turner's behalf described her as a good person who went to church, worked hard, cared for her children and loved her family."As a grandmother, I know in my heart she is not guilty," said her grandmother, Gracie Turner.Winkeler urged jurors to remember how much Julian suffered in his final days."There is no life he gets to salvage," she said. "He is gone, not to return."

Well I'm not necessarily disappointed with the 35, far better than some pathetic sentencing I've seen on similar abuse cases. Still, it's final and over for little Julian so it's hard to rejoice. Thinking that Julian might have lived 'till 65, seems 60 would be fair as she stole that from him. We will never know what might have become of Julian.

Rest in peace Julian Thomas Salazar Soliz.

A detective testified earlier this week that Turner admitted hitting Julian with her belt and hands for lying a few days before his death. That lie, several court witnesses said, was that he needed glue sticks for school.
I can't even see how this became a concern. Glue sticks?!! They're a normal enough requirement, why get all bent if he really didn't need them?

Soliz, who met Turner six years ago while working in the drive-through of a KFC, had moved into a Shoreline Drive apartment in February 2010 with Julian, Turner, their 7-month old son and her 5-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.

But in early March 2010, Soliz stopped coming home and he started staying with a new girlfriend, he testified to the jury.

Soliz said he saw Julian two or three times after that. The boy's mother was not involved in his life, Soliz said.Daddy dear couldn't last more than a month in the home with his two children? And he left Julian there on the basis of a one month live-in status?!!!

Soliz, who was 15 when Julian was born, said he couldn't take Julian with him because there wasn't enough room in his new girlfriend's apartment. So he expected she loved Julian despite the fact that his father was no longer the man in her life, and had just walked out on her to be with another woman, after living with her for a mere month. She'd built up an independent relationship with Julian in the course of a month?!! Liar, liar. Just looking for a place to park his responsibilities while going forth to knock up yet another woman.

Salazar may not have hidden the body in that yard, but she surely was the one who beat him and was responsible for his death. The POS sperm donor is equally responsible, in my eyes. She's taken care of now, but he's still at large, strewing babies around the country and abandoning them without a care for their wellbeing.

I agree @Tundratot (http://www.dreamindemon.com/forums/member.php?u=3446) the POS sperm donor is as guilty, HE set this whole thing into motion and ignored his own children....5 mo. baby by Turner and Julian, abandonment is how I see it, carelessness, reckless endangerment, neglect.
Not to mention the mother to Julian, also, it was just as much HER responsibility to see to it that SHE as HIS mother was the one caring for Julian, not some pissed off ex.
THEY ALL FAIL. Fail so entirely it's sickening. I can't even begin to wrap my mind around not being their for my kinder kid as he's starting school...ugh, pisses me off.
They both live on to fuck up again on some level as I have no doubt they will. The sperm donor probably feels pretty smug like oh, yeah, crazy ass bitch killed my boy and takes no thought into how HE failed. I tell you I better not see this ass-hole around town don't think I can keep from telling him just how I feel.

The school little Julian was first enrolled in, not the one across town w/ the baby killer, but the first one he was happy and still at home, I drive by that school often. Teachers and children were devastated to here on his death. I'll never forget Julian thinking all that was taken from him. Doesn't help that my neighbour's grandboy looks SO much like Julian, it's a little startling.
