As an avid, old-as-dirt gamer, surrounded by all this new tech...I still go through periods of time in which a yearning for games of old will creep up on me and will not go away until the itch has been scratched. Whether this is old-school arcade classics that I can easily satisfy by firing up MAME (http://www.mame.net/), re-playing some old console game by using any of the slew of emulators, or the need to re-visit some PC classics from the days of DOS. As some of you are aware, there is a kickass DOS emulator that just keeps getting better and better that allows you to re-play some of those old classics by emulating the DOS environment while in Windows. Being that it was recently the 10 year anniversity for Fallout, I decided to fire up DosBox and try out a couple of my favorite games. Man, they are not as pretty as they are today, but they are still fun as hell.
Over the last few days, I got completely absorbed into Alone in the Dark (http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/alone-in-the-dark), Daggerfall (http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/elder-scrolls-daggerfall), Flashback (http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/flashback-the-quest-for-identity), Crusader: No Remorse (http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/crusader-no-remorse), and Ecstatica (http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/ecstatica)...all windowed (or full-screen) in Vista. The controls take some time to get used to in the majority of the older games (not a lot of key mapping back in the day), but they are all still a blast to play. Daggerfall in particular. I just finished Oblivion last month, so it was kinda cool to go back and play the original and see how much of the core gameplay mechanics are still being used today.
I figured I would create this thread for anyone who may be interested in re-playing some of your favorite games from yester-year, or for any of you young'uns who may want to try out any of the games you may have always heard about, or if you want to see how far gaming has progressed over the years.
If interested, you can pic up DosBox (it's free) here:

You can also check out the DosBox Wiki if you want even more info:

Also, if you are looking for any of the games, you can check out Abandonia (http://www.abandonia.com). They have a MASSIVE collection of 'abandonware' with fully functioning games with manuals, forums, etc. and all seperated by genre\popularity. I get slow downloads from them, but they are all safe and work flawlessly. They also have a great step-by-step tutorial (http://www.abandonia.com/main.php?nav=index&FAQ=1) to get DosBox setup and working in no time.
Anyone else go through phases where they like to play some of their older, favorite games? It's kinda funny, I have a new RPG, Silverfall, that I just quit playing because of lack of interest...yet 4 hours went by in 3 seconds while playing the 10+ year-old Daggerfall.
