A 23-year-old old Seattle woman is facing theft charges following allegations that she courted and bilked a developmentally disabled man.
In charging documents, King County prosecutors claim Alesha Lair promised love to a 55-year-old man, whose mental abilities similar to those of a child, to abuse his credit, drain his savings and, ultimately, break his spirit.
Writing the court, Seattle Detective Elizabeth Litalien said Lair found the man at a low point in his life.
Despite his difficulties, the man had worked for 23 years at a hospital, Litalien said. He never received state services, the detective said, in part because his mother felt doing so would hurt his feelings.
Following the death of his mother and another family member, Litalien said the man became "an easy target."
"One only has to be with (him) a few minutes to realize his vulnerability," the detective said.
"I believe that Alesha Lair was fully aware of (his) cognitive and physical disabilities, and knowingly and willingly exploited him," she continued. "She repeatedly lied to (him) by telling him that she loved him, and that she would marry and have children with him if he assisted her. …
At her insistence, the man purchased a car -- a late model Hyundai, bought at 16 percent interest -- for her to drive. Detectives claim she also used him to take out $22,600 in payday loans.
Lair is also accused of having the man drain $59,000 from his retirement account.
All the while, the detective said, Lair was writing her boyfriend, Timothy Lee Dye, as he served a prison sentence at the Washington Correctional Center in Shelton.
Following Dye's release, Lair moved out of the man's home and in with Dye, according to court documents. She only returned when she needed money.
Lock this evil bitch up and auction off ALL of her property. A predator doesn't have to be someone who abuses someone sexually, it can also be someone who preys on people who have no one to care for or defend them. She fits this to a tee.
