I didnt had too much hopes for this one when I first heard about it, plot sounded kind of lame and they tend to fuck the pooch with original superhero movies but after watching both trailers im dieing to see it. It looks absolutley great..

I think it looks all right.

Reminds me of the comic book Major Bummer. It's about a couch potato that ends up getting bestowed superhuman powers.

It has Will Smith in it... He's not an idiot, he knows how to pick his roles and if he picked this, I'm sure it will be entertaining!
I know alot of people don't like him but... Why? Because he's so frickin' cool? Because he says "Oh Hell No" in every movie?
This guy is good and so are his films! Just look at his track record...

Bad Boys and Bad Boys 2
Independence Day
Men in Black and Men in Black II
Enemy of the State
Wild Wild West
Ali
I, Robot
Hitch
The Pursuit of Happyness
I Am Legend

Anyway, Not all great films but all very entertaining!

I'm there! :D

I only like half those films and despise the rest, I find him rather anoying in some type of roles but really like him in others, he seems perfect in this tho...

fully agreed, even in the rare case it will suck despite looking awsome in the trailers it will make like a bazillion dollars. That much is certain.

Now that you listed them like that you totally convinced me to sit this flick out. There is no way I'm spending money on another Will Smith shitstorm.;)

This guy is good and so are his films! Just look at his track record...

Bad Boys and Bad Boys 2: Never seen them
Independence Day: Roland Emmerich sucks; was cool when I was 10
Men in Black and Men in Black II: Still like the first one; second one is an example of what kind of films come out of a writers strike
Enemy of the State: Yawn
Wild Wild West: One of the worst summer Blockbusters in recent memory
Ali: Not a fan
I, Robot: Could be Proyas' worst film, along with The Crow; horrible adaptation
Hitch: Not funny, at all
The Pursuit of Happyness: Yawn
I Am Legend: Horrible adaptation that only works for certain sequences

Anyway, Not all great films but all very entertaining!
Whatever you say. :D

I want to say though, that I am interested in seeing this. His track record is another story.

Since everyone else is doing it, here is my quick breakdown of Wil Smith films

Bad Boys and Bad Boys 2 - Watched the frist one for Téa Leoni. Hated it.
Independence Day - Liked it in theaters, hard to watch now
Men in Black and Men in Black II - Liked the first, loathe the second
Enemy of the State - Watchable
Wild Wild West - Laughable
Ali - Yawn
I, Robot - I am a fan of the film. Horrible adaptation, good movie
Hitch - No
The Pursuit of Happyness - Will not get around to watching
I Am Legend - Bad adaptation, ok film. Had enough going against it as it did for it. It's a wash.

I don't really have an issue with Smith on a personal level...I mean he doesn't get on my nerves like Jamie Foxx or Will Farrell...but I am not a big fan of his movies. I will probably see this opening weekend though, as I am sure my kid will want to watch it and I owe him 4 more films for dragging him to see Doomsday.

Let it not be said that I cant jump in the bandwagon...

Bad Boys and Bad Boys 2 - Love the first one, absolutley despise the second one.
Independence Day - Tought it was ok first time, cant stand it now a days.
Men in Black and Men in Black II - First one is kind of ok not that good, second one is a pice of shit.
Enemy of the State - Mediocre at best.
Wild Wild West - Ultra-turd.
Ali - I did like this one, and its the best acting ive seen from him.
I, Robot - Lame movie and a bad adaptation.
Hitch - Didnt find it funny at all but im not the genere's target audience so Ill refrain from calling it doodoo names.
The Pursuit of Happyness - Havent seen that one. cant judge
I Am Legend - despite being a terrible adaptaition it has some great 2/3ds of the film but the ending is an anticlimatic piece of shit wich is especially pathetic considering the story had an awsome ending to begin with...

All I'm sayin' is that this movie will be a great time for me and my son at the theater. He loves Will Smith and I can handle watchin' his movies.
You are right on re-watchability, though! Most of those films I liked but don't need to see again! Independence Day was one of my favorites at the time it came out but to watch it now I mostly just roll my eyes at most of the jokes. Same with Men in Black!
But then again lots movies are like that, Not just Will Smith movies. I saw Ghostbusters 8 times in theaters and who knows how many times on video and tv but I can't really sit through it now!

I think Hancock looks like a great time! "Just sayin'"

Well since everyone else is doing it...

Bad Boys and Bad Boys 2 - The first one was OK enough... no real reason to go back and watch it again. The second one is one of my least favorite movies of ALL TIME. I judge how bad films are on a scale of Pulp Fiction - Bad Boys 2
Independence Day - Independence Day ruled, its a shame the CGI looks so damn outdated. Otherwise I love this film!
Men in Black and Men in Black II - First one rocked, second one... not so much.
Enemy of the State - If I've seen it... I don't remember it.
Wild Wild West - It has a gigantic steam powered spider. Enough said.
Ali - Never seen it.
I, Robot - I, Garbage
Hitch - Never watched it, never want to watch it.
The Pursuit of Happyness - Never seen it.
I Am Legend - Totally Ruled! I've never read the source material & never plan to... therefore I don't give a shit "if its not like the book". Fuck the book, the movie was good!

As for this one... looks kinda funny. I for one will stand and cheer in the theater when he says "Oh Hell No!" in this one.

Kyel If you cant be bothered to read it(tho its fairly short) I sugest watching Last Man on Earth or The Omega Man, they both feel dated as fuck and certainly cant compare on the production values and action scenes but they are both rather entretaining movies and a little closer to the book plot wise.

Well we've got Omega Man at work and honestly I've thought about watching it like seven or eight times previously (I've keep picking it up and then putting it back).

I guess... if someone could explain to me, in like a paragraph or so, why the book is so much better than the movie.... basically I'm all ears.

Well Kyle, its kind of hard to write why, its just a story well told, Its the way it is writen and how you can trully feel Neville's desperation...

...I was mid writing a responce and found this great article (http://www.moviecritic.com.au/i-am-legend-comparisons-between-the-2007-film-adaptation-and-the-1954-novel/) that delivers the point much bether than I could.

in fact here it is in a sentence like you asked:

***spoilers obiously***

The relative humanity of the vampires is of foremost importance in the novel; indeed, at the end of the book, when the new society of living vampires arrest Neville for his crimes, we see exactly how important Neville was. He hunted vampires during the day, killing them as they slept, regardless of their innocence - he was, to them, the monster, a cruel, senseless killing machine. Matheson uses the final words, 'I am legend', to show Neville's realization that his morals, taken from an antiquated world, made him a terror in the new world.

Arguably you could say huge and fast animalistic monsters work bether for a modern action flick than some not so treatening oldschool type of humanish vampires so the sexy naked vampires, the verbably abusive jew former ex friend and stuff of that ilk had to be sacrificed to make room for them and quite frankly Id agree...

Tho I love those aspects of the book it made sence to get rid of them, I also loved the fact he was compleatley alone and found so much joy when he found the dog but it made sence for the film to start with the dog to have him verbalise his feelings as the film didnt have te luxury of narration as the book does..

Stuff like that didnt bothered me about the movie, I understood why they changed it(even the stuff they likley changed to get a PG 13 rating) but the ending? The books ending is fantastic, he realises he has been killing tons of vampiric creatures that arent deviants and he is their boogeyman, he is their LEGEND because he is what they fear the most. So instead of that we get a "Ohhh he found a cure and saved us all giving us a happy ending, what a swell guy, he sure Is Legend" ending? I say bullshit to that.

Thanks Drop, that was exactly what I was looking for.

You know I've never read the book, and I'm not afraid to admit that I've never even heard of it until this movie came out. From strictly a film standpoint, I think the movie is great. I still do. At least now I understand why everyone seems to have so much hate for it.

So let me throw this out at you, then. I'm assuming you own the two disc DVD set and have seen the alternative ending on disc two. Would that ending have been more acceptable?

I'm also going to tangent off here for a minute and comment on how much I'd like to commend The Mist for having the balls to go through with its ending. I'm glad that movie ended the way it did, instead of simply doing what every other movie has done.

I dont own the DVD(I did liked it just enuff I migth get it one day when it goes at bargain prices, just not wort initial retail for me) but have seen it online, frankly no it wouldnt have done it either for me, its a notch bether but not as good as the obious choise of shooting what was on page, the fact they werent even sure how to end it but didnt even bothered to shoot it as an alternative is actually more enerving in a way.

Id actually would have a little less contempt for the ending change if they had named it diferently, if it was called something new, Last Man on Earth or Omega Man (2007) and just say "Based on Richard Matheson's I Am Legend" but the fact the one movie that took the name and will forever be asociated with it is a movie that is such a loose adaptation is kind of insulting to it.

Ohh and more on what Anal's raised topic, I didnt remembered at the time of replying but one of the reasosn I find Will Smith anoying (as Im sure a lot of people do) its his music, every single is mediocre at best down rigth pice of shit that enrages me at his usual worst.

Eleven weeks before the release of “Hancock” Mr. Berg and company were still testing the creative boundaries. Their picture has a spot on the schedule filled last year by Paramount’s toy-driven crowd-pleaser, “Transformers.” As of mid-April, however, it had been twice to the ratings board and tagged each time with an R, not acceptable for a movie that must ultimately be rated PG-13 to reach its intended broad audience.

“We had statutory rape up until three weeks ago,” Mr. Berg said, describing just one of the elements that has turned “Hancock” into an exercise in brinkmanship.

The film, he said, remained surprisingly sexual, violent and true in spirit to an original script that was viewed as brilliant but unmakable when its creator, Vincent Ngo, first circulated it more than a decade ago under the title “Tonight, He Comes.”

Keeping it that way became what Mr. Berg called “an epic game of chicken.” The filmmakers, for instance, long ago conceded that their hero should not get drunk with a 12-year-old. But their concession was a bargaining chip, aimed at keeping a similar situation with a 17-year-old in the final version, which was still weeks from being locked as Mr. Berg spoke in April. Another touchy area, Mr. Berg said, involved flying, never mind driving, under the influence.

“This is about why Superman can’t get a date,” Mr. Goldsman said, speaking of Warner’s reluctance to make a movie that dares to parody one of its most enduring characters. Hancock, he explained, cannot spend the night with a woman he meets at a party. “The physical impracticalities of this, this is what we play with,” he said.

I'm looking forward to seeing this for the sheer entertainment value. I haven't seen even half of Will Smith's movies and probably never will. It might not be a "great" movie but I think I will be sufficiently entertained. The only thing I can truly base my Will Smith experience on is his Fresh Prince of Belair days and I used to love that show and still watch the re-runs on Nick at Night when I'm forced to cuz the kiddos watching. I'll be interested to see your reviews after you see it!

I went to see Hancock yesterday, it was good not great. My 12 year old liked it didn't love it, he is looking forward to Dark Knight! My 4 year old had absolutely no interest!

I really like Charlize Theron but didn't like her acting in this film, her "relationship" with Will Smith struck me as off through out the whole film. I read there were rumors of a relationship striking up between them during filming. I never really believed it and now after watching I highly doubt it they don't have chemistry, imo!

My kid saw this yesterday with her buddies while the BF and I went to see HellBoy II. She said it was pretty good up until the plot twisted and then that kinda pissed her off cuz she was lost. She said it slowly came back together but she didn't like the twist. She said one of the best parts was the "after clips" or whatever the hell they're called at the end of the movie. She said that "tied" everything up. Whatever the hell that means...

dop
July 15th, 2008, 12:38 AM
Wha...? theres after clip"s"? and they fill in the gaps?

Fuck that, im so sick of the way they are placing this clips waaaay past the place they should be, say that Nick Fury cameo on Ironman, it was after like 7 minutes of black screen credits, not after the cool designed, relevant people ones, and now this...

I did imagine there migth be a clip for this one, and did stay, a minute or so of credits went by, a meaningles joke clip rolled and I asumed that was that and left, Its not like I left in a hurry, I slowly walked from nearly the back to the exit of a fairly large stair and at no point was I stoped to the sound of a second clip, just music as at least another minute rolled by...

Well, It aint worth a second movie ticket, so im heading to google to read what the fuck I missed because they now seem to put this things after validating the job of hollywood caterers type of credits.
