URBANA, Ohio -- A toddler was found wandering in an area of West Light Street in Urbana Wednesday morning.
Police said a man on his way to play golf found the little girl wandering in the street around 8:45 a.m. and called them.
Carl Jenkins said he will never forget what he saw. "I thought it was an animal. When I got closer, it was a little girl, " said Jenkins.
Jenkins was a little late to his tee time because he took time to get the child out of the busy street.
"I jumped out and got to the sidewalk and picked her up and tried to get her to talk. She just clung to me. She wasn't excited. She was just calm and leaned her had on my shoulder."
[...]
Police found the father when he called 911 to report that his daughter Mallory, was missing when he woke up this morning. He said the mother of the child left for work around 8 a.m.
Officers believe a back door was left ajar and allowed the child to get out of the house though a dog door. Lt. Matt Lingrell said, "According to father she's used it before to go out and wander the yard, not the neighborhood."
[...]
Carl Jenkins is just glad that he found the little girl. "I'm glad I was here. It's hard telling how far it would have went."
Urbana police interviewed the father Wednesday afternoon. He could face child endangering charges. http://www.whiotv.com/news/23011665/detail.html
