View Full Version : Forum Rules (In Progress)

Thanks to Killrobot and Drags over at Bloody-Disgusting (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com), they have let me completely steal their forum rules so I can use them here. I'm lazy like that...but I did make a few modifications.

In order to keep the forums running well and to prevent problems, please follow these simple rules for the forums here. If you have any questions or problems, please feel free to contact one of the Staff Members. We strive to maintain a community for you to openly discuss and interact without fear of reprimand.

General Rules:

While debating and discussion is fine, we will not tolerate excessively insulting personal attacks or purposeless inflammatory posts. Please note the word excessive. We are loosely moderated and pride ourselves on not needing to babysit our members. Get some thick skin, hash out personal issues in PM's. Argue ideas an opinions all you want, but we will not tolerate any further personal attacks that we feel has crossed a line.

There will be no racial comments allowed here. That is a can of worms I am not dealing with and opens us up for more trouble than it is worth to have some ignorant people spill out racial shit on our site. That goes for ALL racial comments...I don't care if you ARE that race. Sorry. But I cannot pick and choose which racial slur is acceptable. Either they all are, or they all are not.

Please refrain from posting meaningless threads, one word (or short) non-sense posts, or the such. Determination of the validity of said threads at the discretion of forum staff.

Please keep discussions on topic. Excessive thread diversions will result in warning and or infractions. Take it to profile comments or pm's. That's what they're there for.

Multiple or repeated posting in order to increase your post count is not allowed.

Please give newer members a chance to get a feel for the forum. Try being helpful, not belligerent.

It is not your job to police the forum. Please contact the forum staff or report any troublesome post should the need arise.

Before creating a thread, please use the search function in the method described here. This helps ensure that the topic doesn't already exist.

When encountering duplicate threads members are asked to link to the existing thread only if one hasn't been previously provided, and to report via the report button. Needless harassing of the threads creator won't be tolerated. If this has been a reoccurring problem, please pm a moderator with examples.

In regards to the above: Please do not link to an existing thread that has been inactive for a prolonged amount of time. A thread that hasn't been posted in since 2005 could probably use an upgrade.

If you feel a created thread is generic and or lame, try routing into a more interesting but related direction. Post something of substance. Off topic tangents such as THIS THREAD AND YOU SUCKS and WORST THREAD EVER are equally generic and unproductive.

Troublesome members should be reported to staff. If you choose do this, please provide linked examples of disputes and gripes.

Advertising, spamming and trolling is not allowed. This includes using the forum email and Private message system to spam other members. If you want to post your website please do so in the "Other Sites" forum.

We also do not allow posts that are pornographic in nature or violate community standards unless they are in the Red Light area. The DD team shall be the sole arbitrator of what does and what does not violate community standards.

Discussion of illegal activities such as software and music piracy and other intellectual property violations are not allowed.

Each member is allowed one login account. Registering with multiple accounts is not allowed without first having your old account closed. We have added the ability to be notified when a user creates a second account. If you have not been given permission to do so by myself, Imp or swivel, I will happily ban ALL your accounts. Multiple accounts are normally for trolling purposes, and even when they are not, they just cause confusion.

Posting another members personal or contact information on the forums without their consent is considered a huge violation of forum policy and will be dealt with accordingly. Also, posting content from private messages without consent is also against the forum rules, if you receive harassing or abusive PM's please forward the message to a moderator.

We reserve the right to remove offensive posts without notice.

Also while these rules cover most common situations, they cannot anticipate everything. Consequently we reserve the right to take any actions we deem appropriate to ensure these forums are not disrupted or abused in any way.

We also reserve the right to ban anyone who willfully violates the forum rules. A banned user may also be banned from the rest of DD's pages including news and reviews if deemed appropriate.

In regards to the chat box above the forums. Keep it R rated. Even with that, blatant sex talk should be left for the Red Light District, the Chat Room, or PM's. I don't mind swearing and innuendos, but blatant sexual discussions that border cybering should be designated to more private forums to help ensure some of us keep our jobs and keep other readers from reading it in an area they should not have to. Trust me when I say that a lot of people do not want to log into the forums only to see someone posting the moisture level of their vagina.

If you come across users violating any of these rules please click the button to report them to a moderator.

INFRACTION DETAILS AND POINTS BREAKDOWN

If you violate any of these rules, you may be issued an infraction by a DD staff member. If you accumulate 10 points over a 30 day period your account will be banned. Infractions are worth various points based on severity and expire after a 60 day period.

* Signature/Avatar Rule Violation (1 point)
* Inappropriate Thread Content (1 point)
* Insulted Other Member(s) (2 points)
* Spammed Advertisements (3 points)
* Racist / Prejudice / Hateful Remarks (5 points)

In addition to these infractions, a moderator or administrator can issue custom points or infractions depending on the severity of the situation. Also, we will start removing the rights from people who abuse certain functions of the site.

Leaving negative reputation that has nothing to do with the thread in question or for any form of personal attack, can earn you an infraction and if it continues, that very simple feature will be removed from you like a toy from a baby.

Continual violation of the chat rules, whether that is the chat box or Drunk Chat, will gt you infractions and also have the right to use them taken away from you like having to smack a toddler on the hand.

Abusing the blogging feature will result in infractions and can also result in a user having ALL blog rights removed from them akin to a parent removing a pair of safety scissors from a mentally handicapped child.

I think everyone here knows that we run a pretty loose ship. For the most part, we have had no need for extreme moderating of any type as must of us know how to act, even in a virtual social situation. But we will be getting more users involved and some type of rules need to be in place. We went as long as we could, but it couldn't last forever.

Two new mods will be added to the site as well (one has already been selected), as me and Imp cannot keep up with all of this.

Finally. We are NOT a democracy. Myself, Imp and the other staff will choose to follow these rules as closely as we feel is necessary, depending on the situation. But in a nutshell, if you are an overwhelming pain in my fucking ass, and a constant source of trouble on this site, we will have no problems banning you from here...which would be pretty fucking sad considering the amount of leniency we exhibit, and a sign of a possible social retardation you may want to check into. These rules go for EVERYONE. I do not care if I like you or not, got tits or a dick or have been here for 4 years or 4 hours.

INFRACTION DETAILS AND POINTS BREAKDOWN

We do have a working Infraction system but we do not have enough active members to need it yet.

Lastly, I think everyone here knows that we run a pretty loose ship. For the most part, we have had no need for extreme moderating of any type as must of us know how to act, even in a virtual social situation. But we will be getting more users involved and some type of rules need to be in place.

Thats good because aside from this forum and BD, I don't really post in forums. A unified set is good.

Rules updated.

Had to add another one.

"In regards to the chat box above the forums. Trust me when I say that a lot of people do not want to log into the forums only to see someone posting the moisture level of their vagina."

Guys, really, this one shouldn't even had to be stated. Keep that kind of talk inside the forums where I have set up multiple ways for you guys to talk about whatever you want, including talk of a sexual nature. But to have that in the chat box, publically, directly above our forums, makes this site look like something that it is not. We already have enough problems keeping advertisers, something I need to keep these sites running, so do me a favor and keep blatant, vulgar type discussions in areas where someone isn't going to come across it by accident.

Just to add (again), we even have a loft room now in chat. You can go into The Den in chat and then just click on The Loft to your right, and it provides a nice private spot for those one on one or one on four or three on a monkey or eight on two clowns and a pogo stick discussions :)

Everyone has to agree with everything I say or you get 10 infraction points and a severe verbal beating by Mammasweets. If Mammasweets is busy (as in, gettin' busy), an alternate will be assigned.

Please follow this rule strictly and max out your "thanks" button on me daily.

Think that makes me a bitch? Fine. Bite our perfectly formed, rounded, hairless asses. Don't let the door give you a brain injury on the way out.

We deal with situations and with people. Sometimes people say stupid shit. Sometimes people interpret something as a personal attack or insult and we don't see it that way. Not every reported post will result in an infraction. And not everything said in jest or in sarcasm is meant to hurt your fragile ego.

Morbid and I are up to our necks in a new project and in running this site day to day. Those front page articles don't write themselves. If you have an extra account, PM Morbid with the account name and explain. It also helps to grovel.

How does one go about closing an account?

If you are talking about your main account, as in "I'm taking my toys and going home" type close my account...you can't. You just simply don't come back.

But let me state, that some of our regulars were new once...and some of the ones who may seem part of one crowd or another, weren't when they got here. Not gonna lie to ya', we are definitely not the worst crowd to get along with...much snarkier sites out there...but if you do have abnormally thin skin and are easily stressed by things like **OMG FORUM DRAMA** you may want to just lurk.

If you happen to get a post groaned or a comment negatively repped...just remember that in the grand scheme things, it don't mean shit. The only people who usually get gang-banged and dogpiled around here usually deserve it for one reason or another.

I thought she meant she has an extra account, like dneilz, and doesn't want to be seen as intentionally having more than one account.

Or they stand in line for it, fingers crossed and in great anticipation.

Morbid are you insinuating that there are social cliques here on the Demon?

I hate all of you equally.

If anyone knows of a forum where I can join and be part of the popular crowd, please let me know. I bought those sparkly barrettes in the '80s for my grand debut as a popular kid. Still haven't had a chance to wear the fuckers.

Well, Lizard stated "if" I was just filling in the "if not" portion as I get asked that question a lot. Also, I am privy to a extra information...so what may seem as prattle to some, may actually be some good information to someone else. :lollypop:

Nevermind. Should click first as questions later.

I've seen the propensity of some members to ignore (or be unable to comprehend) the nuances of some posts. Thus, I was merely clarifying. I'm only trying to help!
