An Omaha mother whose infant son suffered 13 broken ribs will stand trial on felony child abuse.

Christina Fields, 20, waived her preliminary hearing today. In court Friday, prosecutors said Fields admitted to being frustrated with the baby and shook him on numerous occasions.

Doctors discovered the injuries when Fields brought the baby in for his two-month checkup.

Prosecutors said doctors found 13 rib fractures in various stages of healing.

The doctor told police it appeared the baby had been shaken while being held around the midsection.

Fields' bond was lowered Friday morning to $10,000.

There will be a hearing in juvenile court to determine if Fields will lose her parental rights.

If convicted, Fields faces up to 20 years in prison.

Poor little thing she looks fucked up as hell. I can't even imagine how much pain it would be in to be a 2 month old with 13 broken ribs having its diaper changed and put in and out of a car seat. :(

She doesn't look very smart. And, sadly, ignorant usually equates to cruel, it seems. Seriously, though, I wish these people would learn to walk away. I can't help but feel that surely not ALL of these people are as willfully sadistic, that some of them just lost their temper that once and did not have the foundation to know what to do, but would it be so hard to walk away once in a while? 2 precious months old, and more broken bones than I've had my entire life.

I've said it before: We license people for all sorts of fucking things, and we (supposedly) do extensive background research before we let people adopt/foster babies. Hell, I couldn't work in food service without a cpr certification and a food handler's permit. Why the hell are we not regulating our most precious resource even the slightest bit??

I daresay sometimes that is the case and they regret it the moment they did it and vow never to let anything like it ever happen again.......

Sadly, in this case, we have this:

doctors found 13 rib fractures in various stages of healing.

.... to demonstrate that it was not a unique moment of never-to-be-repeated madness. :dong:
