A Pasco teen pleaded innocent Tuesday to allegations that he stole nearly $2,800 in textbooks from the Columbia Basin College bookstore, then sold them for a fraction of the value.
Brock Scott Schadler, 19, is charged in Franklin County Superior Court with second-degree theft. His trial is scheduled June 18.
Prosecutors allege that on four separate incidents on April 1 and 2, Schadler went into the campus store, picked up textbooks and walked out without paying for them.
Pasco police were called for a shoplifting report on the fourth occasion when Schadler allegedly took seven books, valued at $776.25. After collecting the books from different locations in the CBC store, Schadler spoke to the cashier at the front counter but didn't pay anything, court documents said.
Schadler was stopped by a campus security officer outside the store, but he ran, documents said. He was reportedly identified through a photo lineup from police.
The value of the textbooks stolen in the first three incidents was $1,981.90, documents said.
Prosecutors said Schadler then went to a book buyback counter operated by a separate business and sold the books for a total of $492.
