SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. -- A Bullitt County woman faced a judge Tuesday, just hours after police said she shot her husband in the head.

Janice Hasch, 57, is now charged with assault, but murder charges are probably coming after her husband, Jerry Hasch, 65, was pronounced dead at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said they were called to the couple's home Monday after Janice Hasch called 911, saying she just shot her husband between the eyes.

Police said when they arrived, they found a wounded Jerry Hasch, who was airlifted to University Hospital in critical condition.

Neighbors said the couple had problems in the past. Police said some sort of argument led up to the shooting.

"She pulled the gun and stated that he told her, 'If you are going to shoot me, you better put it right between my eyes.' and her words to me is, 'I'm a marksman,'" said Bullitt County Sheriff's Department Lt. Scotty McGaha.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A central Kentucky woman has been sentenced to two years in prison for fatally shooting her husband last April.

Janice Hasch was convicted last month of reckless homicide in the death of Jerry Hasch. She testified that she was a domestic-violence victim and that she shot her husband when he came after her.

WAVE-TV reports that during a call to a 911 dispatcher, Hasch told the operator that she shot her husband between the eyes and begged for help to save his life.

Hasch's lawyer says the case will be appealed. WAVE says Hasch is being held in the Bullitt County jail and could be eligible for parole in June.
