Woman's body found under foot bridge in St. Louis County

FLORISSANT, Mo. --
The woman whose body was found over the weekend under a foot bridge in north St. Louis County is identified as 37-year-old Latonya Fiertag.

Police announced the identity on Monday.

Neighbors say her mother found the body. The cause of death is not known.

Authorities are releasing little information about the case. So far, there are no suspects.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY — Romana Williams said she knew something was wrong when her son ran up a steep, brambled embankment beside a creek near their home.

The two were scouring the North County neighborhood for any sign of Williams' daughter, Latonya G. Fiertag, 37, who had been missing for four days.

"He said, 'Momma, I found her. She's dead,'" Williams said Monday from her home, one block from the spot where the body was discovered.

"She did not deserve that."

Fiertag, a mother of four, was found Saturday on a mud ledge beneath a concrete footbridge over a creek near the intersection of Bon Oak and Bella Clare drives, just east of Dellwood. She was last seen Wednesday.

It is unclear how or when Fiertag died, but St. Louis County police are sure it was a homicide, spokesman Rick Eckhard said. No suspects have been arrested.
