ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A doctor who has seen more than 2,000 cases of child abuse is calling the injuries to an infant girl she examined this week is the worst she's ever seen.
Now the parents of the 2-month-old girl are in jail. The doctor said the 2-month-old girl had 12 rib fractures and severe malnutrition, according to the criminal complaint against Michael Ray and Michelle George.
Ray, 25, and George, 33, are both charged with child abuse with great bodily harm and are both held on $250,000 bonds.
Ray and George said had no idea how the baby's ribs were fractured or why the infant was losing weight, the complaint added.
George said she was breast feeding her baby every day and couldn't t explain the weight loss either. Ray's criminal history, read in court today, includes a misdemeanor conviction for offense of child in 2001, 20 bench warrants issued and two felony forgery cases pending in Sandoval County.
Police also quoted Ray as saying his girlfriend would argue with the baby while giving her a bath and that he sometimes he could hear the baby "squealing like a pig."
