I bought this and watched it last weekend. It stars Ellen Page of Juno fame as a young teen who meets an older man on an internet chat room and goes to a coffehouse to meet him. She ends up going to his house and from there...holy shit! Throughout the whole movie both I and my boyfriend cringed repeatedly and there were several "oh my gods" peppered in there as well! This movie is the epitome of an excellent suspense film and I highly recommend it! Ellen Page was amazing.

Well, I read your review and while it is mostly quite good, it is obvious to me that you missed something in the movie. :-) There *was* a reason Hayley did what she did and why was revealed at one point in the film. I dunno, maybe you missed that part. It does leave you wondering about the "other factor" but I think that that was intentional and certainly was a point of ongoing discussion and speculation between my boyfriend and I after the movie was over.

Look at you awakening the film section. Bring some friends in so we can keep this up. No one goes in SD except for a few brave persons.
PS GREAT MOVIE!

i loathe this movie. i personally despise ellen page in this flick, and found it to be nothing more than a trick movie trying to be "smart".

Really? Sorry to hear that. I think this is the only good movie I've seen her in...I hated Juno and her character is so false it's not even funny. If you're referring to the nuts scene, I thought they did an excellent job with the tension.

i agree with one thing, i actually cant recall anything she has done that i have really been fond of. as for tension, i felt it was a cop-out. kinda like a big pre-sex build-up with a girl, only to watch her walk out with some other guy after your stuff is all blown up and sore. all the pre-game build-up and not even one touchdown. for shame.

Are you wishing that they actually went through with it?

if, and i think we can all agree he was, a pedo, then yeah, why not. even if she had though, i still wouldnt have really liked the movie. it just didnt "do it" for me. thats all. i would have rather seen him turn the tables on her and rape her till her eyes bugged out and then chop her up and bury her in the neighbors yard. much better that way i think.:pound:

Yeah. Don't know if they woulda done that...
But, I enjoyed the mind games. It did feel a little one-sided, like she was in control the whole time, and I would have liked to see him put her in the corner a few times to see how far she was actually willing to go to take him down.

Personally like the movie very much. My hubby not so much. Harley comes off as smart and resourceful. I get the feeling that guys don't like it for that one scene. Balls gone. I can understand that... I guess. Don't know why its okay to run a drill threw someones leg or cut off fingers. Guys just can't handle that particular thought. He was a pedo and IMHO she should have cut them the fuck OFF.:fencing:

i disagree with ya michelle because i like hostel II, and they go "there" in that one. its more the style of the movie and its pretentiousness that makes me dislike it so much. i like cannibal movies too, and its par for the course to lose a penis in those movies.:smokin:

:biggrin1: I thought that scene was DA PWNZ! But, you're right about that. I watch horror films religiously, and LURVE decapitations, etc but that scene had me squirming in my seat. I'd say it's because it leaves EVERYTHING to the imagination and that is more terrifying than any on screen death. That's what horror directors have forgotten. Tension/Atmosphere>Gore/Blood.

Ah, now I get it. You're a gore hound huh? I love gory films as well. Cannibal Holocaust is a personal favorite, but I love films that don't show it as well. Hell, that's what made Jaws and Alien so friggin' great.

yeah i go both ways, love the gore movies, but i believe the best horrors are the ones that leave it to your imagination (hp lovecraft CANNOT be wrong). but back to business, i think movie tried to be "disturbing" and then backed off after the fact. i prefer my "disturbing" movies to really bother me..........leaving me with that "i need a shower" feeling for days after. there are some very disturbing movies out there that deal with this subject much better, such as: The War Zone, Happiness, Wedding in White, etc.
did i mention salo?

Ah, the ones you listed I have not seen except Salo and I was not a fan. There's a limit. yes, the directors did their "jobs" and messed with my head, but I feel like Salo crossed the line. That's why I prefer films like I Spit on Your Grave, Cannibal Holocaust, etc. I felt like Salo had a point and was just cruel to be cruel. I'm not a fan of films that aren't really saying anything. I know people argue that it is, but I don't buy it.

That's cool disagree. I didn't see Hostel II. I can't comment on it. Went to the theatre to see 1. Hostel did make me squirm and I assume that was it's point, to shock...
I enjoy a good violent movie with T"s and A. Just want more psychological, emotional twisted story. I love love American Psycho, Natural Born Killers, House of Yes, many many more...
