Toddler OK After Taking Hallucinogenic Mushrooms
(MYFOX NATIONAL) - A 13-month-old boy is back home with his parents after spending time in the hospital for eating hallucinogenic mushrooms over the weekend. The parents of the boy said a family friend was staying with them and the toddler managed to get into the friend's backpack. Inside the backpack were the mushrooms that the child ended up eating.
Jeremiah Vilante, of Denver, the boy's father, said he noticed his son was acting like he had a fever and cold sweats, so he called 911. Vilante says the child likely spit the mushroom out because of the bad taste.
"When the baby woke up the next morning I found that he got into this gentleman's narcotics," said Vilante. "It was like he had a fever. But a really bad one. That was enough for me. It's enough for me when he has cold sweats to get concerned."
Vilante explained that he believed the boy tasted the drug, but then spit it out, But the taste was enough to make the a little kid sick.
About the friend who he said had the drugs, "That person will not be in this house again. I'll tell you that much."
The child was rushed to a hospital, checked out by doctors and eventually released.
Police are still looking for the family friend.
The parents will be meeting with a social worker and Vilante said if everything checks out that should be the only meeting. The child is doing much better and expected to be fine.

Anybody else notice how the dad knew how the mushrooms tasted? I wonder if the friend was there to share the mushrooms with dad?
