Ohio — Screaming children jumped off a school bus as it rolled downhill Monday while the driver was in a gas station restroom. A child took the wheel and steered it into a pillar to keep it from going farther.

15 students suffered only minor injuries.

The bus, carrying 27 children in kindergarten through seventh grade, crashed into a bridge support pillar after rolling away from the gas station.

Who the hell leaves 27 unsupervised children on a school bus?!
Was he in such a hurry he didn't set the brake?
Or was one of the kids playing driver and released the brake then couldn't get it back on without the motor running.

If it was not the kids puting it in motion wich sounds very plausible my guess would be he left the motor runing and parked with the emergency brake wich just gave up to the massive weigth as it was parked downhill.

Bus driver Michael Weir was a no-show in Cleveland Municipal Court Tuesday.

A judge issued a warrant for his arrest, and Weir, 57, will get a letter in the mail, stating a warrant has been issued for his failure to show up to court.

It seems Weir has a long list of legal problems.

In 2002, he was convicted of grand theft after stealing from a trucking company. His commercial license was subsequently suspended.

In August 2006, Weir's dump truck flipped over on I-480 and backed up traffic for miles. He was convicted of driving while his license was suspended.

On July 16, 2007, Weir's commercial license was reissued.

Not only was Weir having problems driving, but his mother had him arrested for theft after he stole items from her apartment; she got a restraining order against her son.

Last summer, Weir was arrested for a probation violation in Brook Park and incarcerated.

nice... maybe this school district would like to use convicts in other ways. Sex offenders can teach gym, embezellers can teach math, meth cookers can teach chemistry, etc. You get the idea...think of all the money they could save, and for the small price of the childrens' safety, what a deal.
