PRESCOTT, ARKANSAS (KSLA) - A two-year old Arkansas boy is dead tonight after being attacked by a pit bull. The little boy has now been identified as Matthew Clayton Hurt of Prescott, Arkansas. The toddler reportedly wandered into the backyard of the chained pit bull.

Little two year old Matthew Hurt was at his babysitter's just before 10 this morning. Matthew wandered 4 blocks away, into the backyard where the pit bull was chained but still managed to attack, killing him.

A lady was walking nearby and asked for help after she saw the child in the backyard, they ran to see what was going on...but it was too late.

As you can imagine, the people nearby were disturbed and very shaken up after their discovery.

"He wasn't moving at all he was bitten all on his throat across his face just limp," Bridgette Monroe said.

Right now, the Arkansas State Police are still investigating this deadly pit bull attack. No charges have been filed at this time and even the investigators are even having a tough time dealing with this.

before i blame the babysitter, i will wait for more info.

This news station did not give all of the facts. The mother had been staying with the babysitters and was at the time watching her own children!!!! Before you precute innocent people please know the facts.

THE NEWS HAS THIS ALL WRONG. THE CHILD WAS NOT AT A SITTERS. THE MOTHER NEGLECTED THESE CHILDREN. THIS DID NOT HAVE TO HAPPEN.

YES.. THE FATHER LOVES HIS CHILDREN AND SO DOES LEANN, HOWEVER, THIS DIDN'T HAVE TO HAPPEN...MY HEART GOES OUT TO KEVIN AND LEANN AND THE SURVIVING CHILDREN.

The adult responsible for the child should be punished, and the adult responsible for that dog living on a chain should have to live life on a chain IMO.

RIP little Matthew. Damn, backlash, that image is so haunting!

Family and friends wouldn't go on camera, but say the toddler saw a puppy and chased it to a backyard where the larger pit bull was. They know this because his 3-year-old brother followed him and than rushed home to alert the family.

The sibling's age 8-months, two and three-years-old stayed with Kevin Taylor and Christy Godwin while their mom worked. Godwin says they are like family.

Why the fuck were two toddlers able to run around and "chase" a puppy into another yard. You cannot take your EYES off children at that age. They were clearly not being cared for or attended to the way they should have been and now one of them is dead.

This is so so sad. Poor little angel baby.

I don't know who to feel worse for--- the poor baby or the poor dog who lives his entire life on a fucking chain.

This kind of shit put me in an even worse mood. I swear I need to get involved in some kind of anti chaining group. As I type my two dogs are sprawled on the patio. I can hear my back neighbor's dog, a bully-something or other, barking. He has been on a 7 foot chain lashed to MY privacy fence since the day my trashy fucking neighbors got him. It makes me absofuckinglutely livid. Hearing that goddamn dog bark all fucking day long really works my nerves. He has no shelter at all.

I really hope they don't have children in that nasty fucking house.

I don't know where you are, but there are volunteer groups like the Coalition to Unchain Dogs that build fences for dogs that live on chains etc. and websites like dogsdeservebetter.com with good information and maybe ways for you to get involved if you want...

It's a very worthy cause, because dogs who live on a chain are about 3Xmore likely to bite. It ruins their lives and as we saw here many other lives. I've read a lot of mauled children stories and I can't tell you how many of them involve chaining... seems like all of them, but it's not, it's just A LOT.

The sad fact is this poor dog will be put down over this because these neglectful adults weren't watching these toddlers.

i just can't even talk about this. poor, poor baby. miserable people who let these little kids out of their sight. you just don't DO that; my God, they were only two and three. and poor dog too. chained up, unable to run, no attention; probably never been socialized. i just want to kick and slap the parents/babysitters/whoever, and chain the owner of the dog up for a few weeks and see how he likes it.

I cannot stress enough the horror this poor child went through his last moments alive. From personal experience as a child, I can tell you it was living hell but I was not nearly as young so I was fortunate enough to live through it...twice. This baby had no chance, not one to defend himself from the jaws of a very strong animal. The terror of the first bite would have put this baby in a seemingly never ending frenzy of a nightmare....his screams of terror would have been cut of quickly.

As much as I hate that the dog was tied up, as that is no way for an animal to live, this baby lost his life in a most brutal way and that is not fair. This dog will likely lose his life, and that too is not fair, but at least his ending will not be anguished.

My heart breaks for you sweet one that the people responsible for your well being failed you, failed you completely. Kisses.

Matthew and Mom, He just turned two on September 18th....

Thank you Silva, for memorializing Baby Matthew! Just a precious little curious soul, all children love puppies, especially boys and it is just so sad that Matthew wasn't noticed (along with his 3 year old brother) gone, long enough for this to have happened. His brother will be traumatized from here on. I cannot fathom, the pain and heartbreak!

Tonight my curious toddler loved up on the pups. They loved back.

This all makes me so mad.

My toddler is kept separate from my own dog... by Baby Gates NOT CHAINS!

I am so angry that whomever was responsible for these little kids were not doing their job. Even if I know I am going to take a catnap while my daughter is roaming the house (I am pregnant after all and sometimes it just happens lol) I ensure there is no way she can get out and that her movement is limited by closed doors and baby gates. I have plenty of issues "keeping up" with her (changing her clothing and diapers is like an Olympic sport!)... however she is always safe. As much as I regret this families loss, the responsible adult needs to be prosecuted.
