Wade Edwards shoots his stepdaughter’s boyfriend after catching them having sex

An Apopka man accused of trying to kill his 16-year-old stepdaughter's boyfriend will make his first appearance before a judge Friday morning.

Police say Wade Edwards caught the young couple having sex Thursday night at their home in the Emerson Park subdivision.

According to investigators, Wade Edwards arrived home from work early Thursday afternoon and found his 16-year-old stepdaughter having sex with her 18-year-old boyfriend when he opened a bedroom door.

"He put his hands up and said please don't shoot, please don't shoot," said Edward Crittenden, Apopka Police Department.

Those may not have been the words Wade Edwards expected to hear from of his daughter's boyfriend, but that was Julian Harp's plea when Edwards walked in on him having sex with his stepdaughter.

After catching the couple having sex, Edwards closed the door, went downstairs and returned moments later with a gun.

"At that point he shut the door, armed himself with a .45 caliber handgun, went back up stairs and confronted the man," said Crittenden.

Apopka police say Edwards shot the 18-year-old, hitting him four times in the leg and hip as the teen was trying to put his clothes back on. The teen ran out of the house and eventually collapsed in a yard.

A construction worker nearby saw what was happening and called 911.

18-year-old Julian Harp was still in the hospital Friday morning after undergoing surgery Thursday night.

"You have nothing to say for yourself? Not one word?" asked Eyewitness News reporter Mark Boyle as police led Edwards away.

Edwards is charged with attempted second degree murder. However, he told police he was only defending himself after the boy rushed him.

"We understand he was passionate about what he saw and was upset, but what he did was way over the line," said Crittenden.

Police told Eyewitness News that Edwards is upset about the situation, but not remorseful for what happened.

Officials say the 16-year-old consented to having sex and her boyfriend is not facing any charges.

A sixteen year old having sex is actually quite normal. 35 years ago, my mother put me on the pill when she found out I had sex at 16. My daughter was put on the pill herself when she was 16 and first had sex last year. I was not upset. It's a perfectly normal part of life.

Guess who's getting some bail action?

A man arrested after police said he shot his stepdaughter's boyfriend when he found them in bed was granted bail this morning, authorities said.

Wade Edwards, 41, of Apopka, faces an attempted second-degree murder count in the Oct. 15 shooting, which took place at his home. Bail was set at $50,000.

The boyfriend, 18, was shot in the buttocks, police said. The stepdaughter was 16.

Edwards is being held in Orange County Jail.
