A Decatur man suspected of murdering his wife and taking her children has been arrested in Quincy.
According WCIA-TV, Tuesday night, the body of 29-year-old Christina Vest was found brutally beaten and stabbed to death in her Decatur home. Police say the victim's body was found bludgeoned and stabbed to death in the bedroom of her home by the suspect's father about 8 pm. Authorities say she may have been dead more than a day.

An AMBER alert was issued statewide for the children and 30-year-old Brent Vest, a father of one of the children.

Vest is the number one suspect in his wife's murder and the kidnapping of the children.
A Quincy police officer on patrol spotted Vest's truck at 6th and Broadway just after 1:30 Wednesday morning. Quincy police say when Vest stopped at a convenience store there, the officer confronted and arrested Vest. He was taken into custody without incident.

Both children 11-yr old Heather Carter and 7-yr old Darion Vest were recovered safely.

Vest was transferred back to Decatur as of 6a.m. Wednesday morning to face likely charges of murder and kidnapping.

An autopsy will be performed Wednesday.

We also found out, following the investigation into the homicidal death of Christina Vest and the eventual capture of Brent Vest in Quincy, IL, Decatur Police have additionally arrested Brent Vest for other charges. Those include kidnapping and predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. Both charges stem from the alleged actions of Brent Vest following the murder of his wife, Christina.

Brent A. Vest, 31, was found unfit to stand trial Tuesday in the Nov. 18 stabbing and bludgeoning death of his 29-year-old wife, Christina, in the couple's home at 2140 E. Clay St.

Associate Judge Timothy Steadman made the finding following a hearing at which Beverly Matthews, a Decatur clinical psychologist, was the only witness. She had submitted a psychological evaluation to the court, concluding that Vest was unfit. Steadman remanded Vest to the custody of the Illinois Department of Human Services and set a fitness review for Oct. 28.

Matthews testified she believed Vest could be made fit to stand trial if he received treatment.
