A nurse accused of sexually assaulting two patients and inappropriately touching another at Central Florida hospitals agreed Monday to forgo a jury trial and instead serve 15 years' probation as part of a plea agreement in one case.
Kevin Laing, 46, of Winter Park (http://www.orlandosentinel.com/topic/us/florida/orange-county-%28florida%29/winter-park-PLGEO100100410220000.topic) could have faced up to 17 years in prison if convicted of sexual battery, exposure of organs and battery stemming from an assault at Health Central hospital in Ocoee (http://www.orlandosentinel.com/topic/us/florida/orange-county-%28florida%29/ocoee-PLGEO100100410130000.topic) last year.
Laing pleaded no contest to the charges, which involved a 38-year-old woman in the intensive-care unit. In addition to serving probation, Laing will be a designated sex offender and have to wear a GPS monitoring device.
It was unclear whether the patient in the case attended Monday's hearing. Her lawyer had previously said she declined to comment, and attempts to reach her Monday were unsuccessful.
Another Health Central patient, Clara Mae Bowman, made the first official claim of misconduct against Laing in 2006. Bowman, who agreed to be identified by the Orlando Sentinel, told Ocoee police that Laing touched her inappropriately during a bath.
The Orange-Osceola State Attorney's Office declined to prosecute the case because of insufficient evidence.
A year later, the 38-year-old woman told Ocoee police that Laing assaulted her at Health Central in February 2007. In addition to performing oral sex on her, she told police, Laing repeatedly called her a "dirty girl."
Health Central did not report those sexual allegations to the Department of Health, despite a state law requiring it to do so, the Sentinel found. The hospital said it investigated the allegations but could not corroborate them.

I sooooo hate it when nurses go bad. You should be able to trust them not to molest or fondle when you are in a position where defending yourself can be difficult.
