Monroe Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the Thursday death of an 11-month-old baby in Monroe.

Police say the baby, Zamaree D. Haynes, was severely beaten and unresponsive upon arrival at L.S.U. Medical Center on Thursday. Police have charged the baby’s mother, 21-year old Kenyatta S. Haynes, and her boyfriend, 22-year-old Drukile K. Dunn, with second-degree murder. Dunn is not the baby’s biological father, police said.
Both Haynes and Dunn were arrested early Friday and taken to Ouachita Correctional Center.
Police say injuries to the baby’s body include old and new rib fractures, a busted lip, black eyes, four old and new human bite marks and multiple bruises to the chest, back and face.
Police say the baby and another child, age 2, were home with Dunn while Haynes left the Parkview Apartment residence for about one hour.
Upon returning, police say she reported that the baby was lethargic. According to police, Haynes then took the baby and the other child to her mother’s residence in Charmingdale. Police say somewhere en route or at the grandmother’s home, the baby became unresponsive.
Police say Haynes then took her sister and both children back to the apartment in Parkview. Haynes left her sister and the 2-year-old, picked up Dunn, and then took the baby to the hospital.
Police say the cause of death is believed to be blunt force trauma to the abdomen area. The investigation into this incident is continuing, police said.
