DAYTON, Ohio - A mother is in jail after police discovered burns on her 10-month old infant daughter.

Police were called to the house of Donnishia Peterson on Cornell Woods Drive after paramedics had checked the infant. According to reports, the child's legs and feet were severely burned to the point of the skin hanging off of her toes.

Peterson told responding officers that a fan she was using to dry her carpet fell on the infant and caused the burns, but investigators dispute that claim. Medical experts that examined the baby at Dayton Children's Medical Center ruled that the second and third degree burns could not have been caused by a fan.

Police say they believe Peterson may have placed the infant in bathwater that was as hot as 140 degrees without first checking the temperature. They are charging Peterson with a felony count of child endangering, and are meeting with Montgomery County Prosecutors to discuss any further charges.

The child is recovering at Dayton Children's Medical Center, where she is listed in fair condition. She is expected to survive.

Peterson, who is nearly 9 months pregnant with her second child, is being held in Montgomery County Jail.

ugh...In Anatomy and Physiology class tonight we saw pictures of burn victims and I cried at a picture of a 18 month old baby with 3rd degree burns on 90% of his body (he was dead in the photo!)

I had a flash of that picture while reading this story and it makes my heart bleed!:faint2:

NOt only does she look as dumb as a box of rocks - but it seems intentional to me. Would the baby not have SCREAMED and CRIED the SECOND her little body hit that water?!?! And the steam that would of come off that water? And a 10 mos old does not bath themselves - get themselves all lathered up etc - so SHE gave her the bath - she HAD to know how hot that water was - and did not care - anyone with any kind of a brain would of known it was too hot. They need to take her baby away from her as soon as it is born and then tie her damn tubes. But watch - not only will they allow her to keep her unborn they will eventually give her back the baby she burned - I would be extremly surprised if they did otherwise - unfortunately...Hope baby heals fast

Even giving her the benefit of the doubt about not knowing the water was that hot, there's no way to argue that she didn't see the baby's injuries AND she lied to the cops and paramedics about how it happened.
