FRANKFORT, BENZIE COUNTY -- A cold case spanning more than 35 years is reopened in Benzie County.
15 year old Terry Sutter was found dead near Frankfort in 1973. Sheriff Rory Heckman says his administration decided collectively to reopen the case. Sheriff Heckman tells 7 & 4 News he can't discuss specifics with the investigation at this time but says the ultimate goal is to give the Sutter family closure.
" I've been able to put together a series of articles about what really happened. We're coming to, not a conclusion, but at least things that weren't ever revealed, " said Pete Sandman.
Pete Sandman, a former managing editor of the Benzie County Record Patriot, has been closely following the Sutter case since the beginning.
" He was just your typical kid going into his sophomore year.Cold case file, if they go over a year, are probably never really solved, but this one might be. Somebody has to know what happened in a certain situation and maybe that person will be able to turn a little bit more to the investigators."
The Sutter family is wishing for the same thing...that after all this time someone will come forward with information. The family is hopeful that people will start talking.
" Everybody has theories...the family has theories... they also have names that they've given me over the course of 30--years and a lot of notes."
