Here is an example of a bad tattoo (thanks, dop):

I laughed at one of the comments:

"Picture is of the bride as she currently looks...and the tattoo is how the bride will look as a corpse."

So, who here has a tattoos? How many? Gotta picture of it?

Personally, I have talked about getting a tattoo since I turned 18. I have yet to decide on one.

I think tattoos are a dumb idea, but I don't begrudge anyone who gets one. Unless you die young, you are eventually going to get old and gross and floppy. Nothing looks worse on old people than tattoos.

Currently I have 4. It has been about 10 or 11 years since my last one. I may get a couple more eventually.

You need some touch ups dude.

I'm getting Integrity's logo on my calf with the words "In contrast of sin-I fear tomorrow" around it in a circle.

I'm also drawing an H.P. Lovecraft (aka basically Call of Cthulhu) half sleeve.

I love tattoos, and have for a while. I want to get them in places where they are easy to cover, but also easy to show off, which is why I'm going for calf and upper arm. (Long sleeves+pants/short sleeves+shorts)

Yeah...like I said, it has been about 10 or 11 years. I just don't have the money right now and as soon as I get some touch up work done, I will want to get more new ink. It is HIGHLY addictive. Be prepared to not stop until you can't afford it any more.

You have a tattoo of Care Bears? ;)

Yes. Because:

I wanna be a Care Bear. Oh It will be so great to when I'm a Care Bear
Oh I can hardly wait to be a Care Bear and do the things Care Bears do.
Oh I wanna be a Care Bear Like you! You do?

I'll be like Funshine and make the sunshine
And have heart like Love-a-Lot.
I'll be like Wish Bear and always be there.
We'll be the luckiest bears in Care-a-Lot.

I wanna be a Care Bear and fill the world with love
To be a Care Bear is what I'm dreaming of.
We'll make a great pair. We'll stick together through and through Like glue.

I don't wanna be a cook or a fireman and I don't wanna play trombone in the marching band.
I just wanna be a care Bear Like you! I just wanna be a Care Bear:D

...actually i think its more intersting to look at a tattoo on an old, floppy and wrinkly body than that sagging sack bones by itself. if i am going to be looking at old people that is. i mean if you're going to look at naked old people which would you prefer to look at?

i dont have any tattoos but the art interests me, and i have designed a few for some friends, as far as getting some myself i am wrestling around with the idea.

I've wanted a tattoo for quite some time, but can't seem to commit. Hell, I've got everything BUT a tattoo picked out...The shop, a spot to put it...I just can't seem to find someone who can draw them as I see them in my head.

Maybe one day...

I don't really see the appeal of tattoos. It is too permanent, and it is unlikely that 30-40 years later, you'll still like your tattoo. So I would never get one. And I find it a massive turn-off when a girl has them. I think that has alot to do with my upbringing, because my family always saw them as trashy and "goyish".

Hehehe...That totally sounds like one of those, "Well, if you and I aren't married by 40, let's just get married to each other."

Good luck with that. :p

Hehehe...That totally sounds like one of those, "Well, if you and I aren't married by 40, let's just get married to each other."

Sort of. I just watch a kid not get a job because of tattoos he got in the military. I remember when I was a teenager I was dead set about getting some, but my parents basically reminded me that it would be permanent and could easily effect me later in life. So, after seeing my brother get a tattoo removed via laser surgery because of a job he was lined up for after law school, I decided that not getting one at that time was a good idea.

Now, that my life is at a place where I can foresee what my job will always entail, a tattoo will not effect me, or my hireability(?) one bit...as long as it is not on my face or anything.

I don't think I will ever regret the ink I have. I have had it for 11 years now and I have changed A LOT in those 11 years. I still like them. I tried to pick things that would carry a meaning for me for life. I know that is hard to do, especially when you are young, but I think I did a pretty good job of it.

I would NEVER get something permanently put on me because it looked cool. That is idiotic. As far as getting old and the tattoos getting saggy, well your whole body is going to be saggy. You may have saggy turkey neck, saggy arm fat, saggy tits, saggy balls. Plus your ears and nose may get bigger and bigger. I don't think a tattoo is going to make that much of a difference.;)

Placement is also key. All of mine can be easily concealed for an interview or whatever. Once you get the job, they can't fire you for having a tattoo. Unless of course it was HIGHLY offensive, and even then they would probably just make you wear long sleeves and or pants.

To those of you who have yet to get a tat but are considering it, take my advice. Plan something that will hold meaning for you. A cool looking wolf or a cutesy butterfly are nice and all, but WHY are you getting those things? Is it because you like the way they look or do they hold a REAL meaning for you? Now, you want them to look good, but they should really mean something, and not just for the here and now.

My Chinese zodiac is the dragon, thus the dragon on my left forearm. That will never change. I will always be the year of the dragon. My western zodiac is Virgo, thus the Virgo on my right calf. That will never change. I will always be a Virgo. I am a bit into Taoism and therefore chose the yin and yang on my right forearm. This reminds me to try and keep balance in my life. This will never change. I will always want a balanced life. I want to lead a happy joyful life and therefore chose the dancing bears on my left ankle. They remind me of a very happy and content time in my life and have such a wonderful look of merriment to them. This will never change. I will always want to be happy in life and they will always remind me of a time that I truly was, no matter how my life is currently going.

I have plans for at least two more. I want to balance out my body. I need to get one on my right ankle and left calf. I have thought of getting the Chinese characters for Peace, Love and Happiness on my right calf. I have a Chinese thing. I think I was Chinese in my last life.:D I have thought about getting a ring of Disc Golf baskets around my right ankle. I believe I will be playing Disc Golf for the rest of my life. It brings me great joy. The other ideas are one big basket on my left calf and a ring of hearts, peace signs and smiley faces on my right ankle. Either way, this all takes money that I do not have and do not know when I will ever have, so it may or may not happen.

Once you get the job, they can't fire you for having a tattoo.

Sure they can. If it's against written company policy and you didn't make them aware of it during the interview process, they have the right to get rid of you. My roommate was let go a day after being hired by Olive Garden a couple of months ago.

Still, in most cases, it's unlikely that they'll fire you. You're right that they'll probably just make you keep it covered up.

Tattoos. I love them, if they are done properly. I have 5 tattoos for now.

I received my first one 23 yrs ago....so age 20. My mother died when I was 18 from a long bout with cancer. Her name was Rose. I wanted a tattoo of a rose on my arm. My tattoo artist drew out a lovely rose on paper for me. We argued extensively about him not wanting to put it on my arm (It is over my Rt. deltoid muscle), he kept telling me how "women" didn't get tattoos on their upper arms and how I would "regret it so much one day". WTF ever. Of course I got the thing where I wanted it and have never regretted this tattoo. I am thinking of expanding on it, possibly making it into a shoulder type sleeve, adding vines and possibly my children's names.

Second tattoo I received was on my right shoulder blade. This tattoo is waiting for a cover up. I was 22 and quite fucked up at the time I got it. A friend of mine did tats and well this one was from his kitchen. It is a set of guns with roses entwined. (Yes, when Guns and Roses first came out, I was in love with Axel Rose's voice) Again, VERY fucked up when the tat was gotten.:o

Third Tattoo was a guitar in honor of Jimi Hendrix. I had this one done in 88 or 89, I'm thinking. I didn't like how it faded over the years and I didn't like the tattoo artist's work, so I had it covered with a magnificent butterfly in 2006. A symbol to me of rebirth, freedom and wisdom. The artist that did this tat simply drew it right out on my chest....this one is above my right breast, he did a fabulous job. (picture down below)

Fourth Tattoo is on my left outer ankle. It is a small butterfly resting on a vine with a tiny heart. I love this tattoo. It has a lot of symbolization to me. I had it done in 1990.

Fifth Tattoo is a Grateful Dead "Steal Your Face" emblem that I got at a music festival in Indiana, the yr 2000. It is on my Right outer ankle. Mr. Hippie got the same tat, the same day.

Picture of the guitar before and after. The butterfly, I love!

My gorgeous sister-in-law is deaf. So she got the kanji for "hear no evil" down her spine. It's awesome. And what was funny was that the tattoo artist didn't get it.

I have a tribal tramp stamp i drew myself. One nice part about that part of the body is that even when i'm old and fugly, the lower back doesn't get all that wrinkly. And i have a double Celtic heart that my father bought me as a necklace, and i had it done on my right anterior hipbone area.

Honestly, when i get really old, i may just get all inked up. I'd love a full backpiece.

I too am planning on a tattoo once I can pick one out.
And I LOVE sleeves on men. Super sexy!

And as far as getting old, I really don't care how old and wrinkly I get. I already plan on being obnoxious and hard to get along with, I might as well look that way too. :D

The first tat posted in this thread is truly horrible. Just...yuck.

Sadly...I only have one tat so far. A little tribal piece with a rose in the middle. I have it right above my right ankle. I'm thinking I'll be satisfied once I have 3 more tats. At some point...I want 4 little sets of footprints tattooed around my bellybutton...to signify my kiddos.

I only have three but my left arm has about 80 hours of work on it. Its still above the elbow. Its a scorpion backed up against a butte in a dessert and then the whole scene is surrounded by and inside of a screaming skull, if you knew just how crazy I was you'd say oh that fits.

Shark on right upper back I got two days after 18th birthday with my first wife to be, and a reaper on the right bicep that me and some Army buddies got together.

My work started out as teenage rebellion but I'm still happy with it in my mid-30s. The only influence from momma was that none of them show when I'm dressed business casual. The left arm was going to be a full sleeve someday when I had a blue collar life dream, my new/last wife keeps me from getting any more ink for the last 12 and foreseeable future years.

I figure I lived hard enough in the first 25 years that the risk of living to be old and flabby is pretty minimal.

I have five tattoos. I put them in places that won't get old and saggy and floppy looking so I wouldn't have to worry about that. I have a little devil, a heart with a ribbon thru it, a long stemmed rose, a butterfly, and a trinity symbol. I will leave the places they were put to the imagination.

and then my second tatt which was simply because I have a warped sense of humor!:

I have 4 tattoos, and I can't say I really regret any of them. They're all hidden and u would only see them if I wanted u to.

I don't think tattoos on women make them look trashy. I like them, I mean, I wouldn't go so far as to have my entire body done, that would just be painful, but I wouldn't criticize a woman for having a lot of tattoos.

Who cares anyway? If u don't like it....don't look.

I don't think they necessarily do, but let's be real...tattoos CAN make a woman look trashy. Just like they can make men look trashy. On the list of tattoos that will automatically qualify someone as trashy, in my opinion: Tattoos on the neck or face. I don't really care what it is. Old English in those areas will get you double trash points. Tattoos on the chest MUST be tasteful. Again, no Old English.
Old English that is okay in my book:

For the record? I'd take the brain over the brawn any day. That being said, if I ever had a "type", he was roughly 6 feet, heavily tattooed, pierced and probably looked like a drug addict. Unfortunately, they never came with an intellect attached. Now, if only I could find one of those...

I have one small tat on my hip that I got 11 years ago when I met DH. He has "me" on his arm. At least it's how he sees me. I never much thought it looked like me, but from the time they were babies, my kids would see his arm, point, and say "mama." Ain't that heartwarming? LOL.

You can see a pic of his art in my profile as my profile pic. Of my tat, there are no pictures in existence.

I was told once, "If you want a tattoo, first of all make sure that it means something important to you, and secondly... wait 5 years and if you still want it, then get it."

I personally have been waiting for 15 years for my tattoo, a Phoenix. My husband can and has in the past done tattoo's.

I was never one for wanting a tattoo, but after my three closest friends died on August 11, 2007...I've finally decided to get their signatures tattoed on the left side of my ribs in small black ink under my heart, but not on my boob. It seems like a good way to remind myself of them and more classy since it is in black and not a place that is usually seen. I'm planning on getting it for Christmas.

My first tattoo was the kanji for "happiness". I had it on my right shoulder blade. Honestly, I just wanted a tattoo and I thought it looked cool.

Unfortunately, every time someone asked me what the tattoo meant and I said "happiness", they thought I was saying "a penis".

So that was annoying.

Eventually the ink started to fade and I had it covered with a butterfly.

And then a few years ago, after a really painful break up, I had a pink lotus blossom with 7 petals tattooed on my right hip. I really appreciated the symbolism of a lotus rising up through the mud. Pink was for love and 7 is my lucky number.

No one can see my tattoos unless I go out of my way to show them.

My tattoos make me happy. If anybody doesn't like them...oh well. :biggrin1:
