A 27-year-old Evansville woman is due in court today after being arrested Sunday on a preliminary charge of child neglect.
Police say Amanda Mayse was drinking alcohol with three minors at 23 W. Maryland St. while also caring for her children, ages 6 and 7.
Evansville Police Department officers were initially dispatched to the home to investigate a report of a woman possibly furnishing alcohol to minors.
Police say Mayse had extremely slurred speech and appeared very intoxicated. She was arrested for neglect when she stumbled around the home and refused officers' commands to be quiet, according to the affidavit.
The two children - one of whom smelled of old urine, police said - were placed in foster care through Child Protective Services.
In all, three minors were drinking alcohol in the home, police said. One of them, a 17-year-old whose name was not released, was arrested after he allegedly disobeyed officer commands and, at one point, appeared ready to "square off" with police, the affidavit said.
Mayse is being held without bond pending the initial court appearance.
