Bentonville police suspect foul play in the disappearance of a mother and her daughter.

Louise Bishop, 81, and her daughter, Christina Bishop, 40, have been missing since June 18.

Family members don't believe the two could have left on their own; both had health issues and needed regular medical attention.

Skupien last spoke with his cousin, Christina, and aunt, Louise, the night they disappeared -- June 18.

“About 8:30, I talked to her and she was supposed to meet us at the apartments in Gentry and it was getting kind of dark. And I told her to disregard coming out there,” said Skupien.

He said Louise had to undergo testing with a doctor the next morning, but never showed up.

“I know she wouldn't had missed that appointment,” said Skupien.

Skupien and his wife called all the hospitals in the area, to no avail.

When they went to the Bishops' house two days later, they noticed something unusual -- the door had been unlocked and the alarm turned off.

“She was so careful about the alarm, that she set the alarm while she was in the house. So we knew right away something was wrong,” said Skupien.

Louise had just gotten out of surgery and Christina needed to take daily medication

“She was in pretty bad shape. We had to hold her to get to the car, so she couldn't be walking around,” said Skupien.

July 20, 2009:

Police have released new video of the last time two local women were seen alive and well.
[...]
The surveillance video was taken on June 18 at 5:35 p.m. Louise Bishop and her daughter Christina Bishop were shopping at a Sam's Club in Bentonville. Two days later, when family went to their home, those groceries hadn't even been unpacked.

"When we came in, nobody was found inside and there was unpacked groceries from Sam's Club on the counter," said George Skupien, whose cousin is Christina Bishop.

He last spoke with his cousin a few hours after that shopping trip. Police said they saw nothing out of the ordinary on the tape, which also shows the pair leaving in the car police are looking for.http://www.4029tv.com/news/20123783/detail.html

There had been no sign of the missing women until Thursday night, when their black Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was found at an impound lot in Avoca. Police said it had been parked outside Club Hots, a gentlemen's club in McDonald County, for weeks -- before the owners had it towed away.
[...]

The truck is now at the state crime lab, where officers are looking for any clues.

"Anything that might be considered a piece of evidence in this case -- blood, hair, fibers," Allen said.

The family hopes the truck's discovery leads to an even bigger discovery.

"It's been over two months, but we'd like to put it to an end and find out what happened," Skupien said.

Police have said they suspect foul play in this case. They added that there's no telling how long the crime lab's investigation of that truck will take.

The family of the missing women is still offering a $5,000 reward for any information on their whereabouts.

It's been nearly five months since two Bentonville women, Christina Bishop and Louise Bishop, disappeared.

Now, police and their family members hope an arrest may bring police one step closer in finding out what happened.

The man police arrested is the son of one of the missing women.

Nicholas Johansen, 18, was arrested on suspicion of hindering apprehension or prosecution.

Police will not comment if he was involved in the disappearance of his mother, Christina Bishop, or his grandmother, Louise Bishop.
[...]

During their investigation, they said he lied in his testimony to police and prosecutors.

“He gave inconsistent statements, misleading statements, statements that are directly in conflict with each other, which greatly hindered our ability to do a through, complete investigation,” said Bentonville Police Chief James Allen.
[...]

George is a relative of the Bishops and said after five months, he doesn't expect his aunt or his cousin to be alive.

But he and police hope that Johansen's arrest can bring them closer to solving this case.

According to Skupien, Christina did not have an active relationship with Johansen. He was living in Garfield with his father.

"Christina gave up custody of the child when he was very small," said Skupien.

Bitterness towards the women, maybe??

But their truck has been found, after "Hots" club managers noticed it had been sitting in front of their strip club for weeks. Allen says, "there had been some minor vandalism, but just what you'd almost expect for something that had sat on the parking lot of a club or a bar for six weeks."

With the words "free truck, just tow" scrawled across the truck's windshield in lipstick or soap, at first Chief Allen says he wondered why it sat abandoned so long. "As our detectives talked to the management there at the club, that's not unusual, you know, a patron would lend a car to one of the employees there or they'd leave a car and go on a trip or whatever."

That was written there, I am sure, in hopes that someone else would leave fingerprints or get caught with the truck and be charged. Oh, where Johansen lived, in Garlfield is about an hours drive from where the truck was abandoned, Wonder if they have checked out Johansens purchases and cell phone records during that time???? Or at least had his handwriting analyzed....

Police Find Remains Believed To Be Of Two Missing Women Louise

Louise and Christina Bishop were last seen at a Bentonville Sam's Club last June.

Police found remains Tuesday they believe might be the missing women off Sugar Creek Road off of Highway 62 in Benton County near Garfield and Avoca.

Police said a tip inside the Benton County jail led them to the remains.

Bentonville police and the Benton County Sheriff's Office brought with them an inmate, being held in connection with an unrelated crime, who led them to a shallow grave near the home of Christina Bishop's ex-husband.

“SWAT team right out here by the window and I said, ‘My gracious dear, something going on over at John's’,” said neighbor Ronnie Barenz.

Barenz spent all day Tuesday wondering what was unfolding right outside his house.

“It got really interesting, it really did. They brought all these police cars in, blocked the road off, and then they went up there on the hills with ATVs and dogs. And I thought, ‘Oh wow. They must be looking for something,’” said Barenz.

Bentonville police had received a tip that led them to the house of Christina's Bishop's ex-husband and son.

“The individual took us right there and walked over there and saw what appears to be human remains,” said Bentonville Police Chief James Allen. “What you see as you walk along, you can just see bones on top of ground. Obviously, they've been here for quite some time. Just exposed bones there.”

Police were waiting on a search warrant Tuesday night to dig the area, so they can determine if the remains are of one or two bodies -- and if they are in fact, the Bishops, who have been missing for more than seven months.

“We hope it puts closure for the family of these people here, these two ladies, and for the citizens that wonder what happened,” said Allen.

No arrests have been made at this time, but police said they do expect some soon. http://www.4029tv.com/news/22586495/detail.html

Opening Statements in Murder Case

Testimony began Thursday morning in the capital murder of trial of Michael Shane Winters.

Winters and Nicholas Johansen are charged with capital murder and aggravated robbery. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

The pair are charged in connection with the deaths of Louise Bishop, 81, and Christina Bishop, 40.

Benton County Prosecutor Van Stone told jurors in his opening statements that the murders began as a plot to rob Louise Bishop. “There were not random victims of murder,” Stone said.

Robby Golden, one of Winters’ attorneys, said his client did aid in helping hide the bodies, but the dispute of the case will center around what happened at the Bishop’s home.

The Bishops were reported missing June 21, 2009. They were last seen at Sam’s Club in Bentonville. Their bodies were found Feb. 1, 2010, in a shallow grave at 15226 Sugar Creek Road, between Garfield and Avoca, according to court documents.

Police believe the two were attacked the night of June 18, 2001 at their home at 2910 Southeast J St.
