The sheriff's office reports that a neighbor called authorities Sunday after hearing several shots and dogs yelping come from the yard of 52-year-old Norman Otis Douglas.
When deputies arrived at the Keystone Heights home, they found five dead dogs, plus an injured dogs that died later. Deputies report that Douglas was walking around his yard with a loaded .22 caliber rifle but was taken into custody without incident.
Douglas was charged with cruelty to animals. Four remaining dogs were taken by animal control officers.
