This chills my blood. If she was willing to abuse him like this in public I cannot imagine what he went through at home.
MUSKEGON COUNTY -- A Muskegon Township woman has been sentenced to probation, community service and fines for punching her mentally disabled son in a doctor's office waiting room.
Muskegon County Circuit Judge James M. Graves Jr. last week sentenced Marcia Lynn Schleben, 52, of 1345 S. Walker to 2 1/2 years on probation, 40 hours of community service, counseling as required by a probation agent and $328 in fines and costs.
Schleben pleaded no contest June 24 to second-degree child abuse, a felony. Under a plea agreement with the Muskegon County Prosecutor's Office, she will be allowed to withdraw that plea and plead to a misdemeanor if she successfully completes probation.
Norton Shores Police arrested Schleben in January after a reported incident at Norton Family Practice, 3535 Park.
Schleben was yelling at her 11-year-old son, who has a mental disability, because he wouldn't get up when she told him to, witnesses told police.
She then dragged the child out of his chair and he fell to the floor, where she punched him twice in the head with her closed fist, according to police.
