I don't know how big of a story this is outside of the Milwaukee Metroplex, but around these parts this is huge news.
It always bothered me that he was called the Wizard of Waukesha though. He was Born and raised in Pewaukee!!!
Les Paul literally grew up across the street from my Grandparents farm, and I remember my Dad telling stories about little "Jam Sessions" that Mr. Paul and some of my Grandfathers farm hands would have back in the 1940's and 50's when he would come back to town to visit.
And for the record the Les Paul homestead is still standing today.....
Les Paul, the Waukesha-born genius who rose to become one of the most influential musicians in the 20th century, has died at the age of 94.
The Gibson Guitar Co., said on its Web site (http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyle/News/les-paul-passes-away-at-94-813/) that Paul died of complications of pneumonia at a White Plains (N.Y.) hospital.
Paul was best known as a pioneer in the development of the solid-body electric guitar and the originator of multi-track recording.
Paul, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, was also a major recording artist in the 1940s and 1950s, and performed in Manhattan late in life.
With his wife Mary Ford, Paul enjoyed a series of over 25 top forty hits in the late '40s and early '50s including "Vaya Con Dios," "Hummingbird," and "How High the Moon." The couple later divorced and Mary Ford died in 1977.http://www.jsonline.com/news/waukesha/53141582.html
