A Minnesota man made it his mission to rescue an injured bald eagle, and now the bird is on its way to recovery.

John Eisel found the young bald eagle in the middle of the highway while driving home near Detroit Lakes.

It had a broken left wing and couldn't fly. Eisel and his girlfriend picked it up, wrapped it in a blanket, and took the young bird home.

"We feed it several different things—raw meat, crackers, bread," he said.

The couple then notified officials about their rare finding.

The Department of Natural Resources picked up the bald eagle Monday to take it to the Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota to be treated.
